Hey how you doin’? 😛 After my angry rant of a post I needed to step back and take a deep breath and remember: STUPID PEOPLE will always be around and it’s how you deal with them is the key to keep on truckin’….that and knowing you’ve got an upcoming trip to visit California and Marky! 😀 This has been the longest time in my life that I haven’t seen my daughter! I haven’t seen her since September 4th you guys! That’s like forever for a mama. And I think she misses home too because looky at her homework she posted on Instagram:
 photo IMG_3855.jpg

And yeah, it’s kind of silly we’re going next week when she’s coming home Dec.18th for Christmas break, but my Disneyland Annual Pass expires this month so, one more visit! Whether I renew it or not is something to think about…it’s a lot of money, and you have to go at least 4 times a year to make it worth the money. And with our dollar tanking like it’s the 2000s(OMG I swear it’s the 2000s again because I saw Panic At The Disco perform for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade), so I’m not sure how often we’ll go back next year, and that makes me sad.  🙁  You all know how I love California! Oh well, let’s just hope Justin Trudeau can help out, right? Hahaha, he makes me so happy…again…it’s like the 2000s again with the Liberals in power. I love it.

Went back to see the bison at Elk Island National Park! It’s just 20 minutes away for us, so we thought we’d go visit again before the snow started to fly here.

 photo IMG_3763.jpg

Had a delicious Saskatoon Berry milkshake too!

 photo IMG_3762.jpg

Of course I shared it with Terry because ME:

 photo 07fb558e-08cc-4fdb-8958-07be3a01300e.png

Winnie the Pooh is me in cartoon form I swear 😛

And it finally snowed! It sure took a long time! Usually we have snow before Halloween here.

 photo IMG_3829.jpg

I love the snow, and I love winter! And when winter comes here it’s usually BOOM. WINTER. No easing into it haha! FULL THROTTLE. As much as I love California, I’d sure miss the cold and snow! #freakIknow

So, I had my yearly neurologist appointment this week and passed with flying colours! #15yearsstrong #nocaneyet I love my MS neurologist-she’s actually from Winnipeg like me and just a couple of years younger than I am. She’s tiny! I’m 5’10 and well…husky LOL, and she weighs about 90 pounds wet at about 5’2″ and it makes me giggle when she does this one test where stand and then close my eyes with my feet right together. I used to start to tip over years ago and she’d try to catch me….and my thoughts always were: Little lady if I go down, you go with me. But…I don’t tip anymore! I don’t have to worry about crushing here anymore HAHA! I’m BETTER now than I was 5 years ago…our bodies and our minds can do amazing things with a positive mind set I tell you! I’m proof.

My neurologist is downtown, which is a good trip from my house, so when we go there we make the most of it! We stopped in to get some dessert at the amazing Duchess Bakery. It’s one of the top ten bakeries in the world, in case you didn’t know…HERE…in EDMONTON…amazes me how lucky we are!

 photo IMG_3923.jpg

Duchess Bakery Paris-Brest Hazelnut Pastry

SO yummy…I’m kind of glad I don’t live nearby as I’d be a LOT chubbier that’s for sure!

Then we decided to check out the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton. We haven’t been in YEARS.

 photo IMG_3908.jpg

Our Conservatory is really cool and has 4 pyramids that house plants and flowers from different climate zones.

 photo IMG_3913.jpg

The pyramids are designed that way so that the snow falls off easily. Thoughtful and Winterproof designing! And it’s neat because it sounds like mini avalanches when the snow slides off, and you can really imagine what a full-fledged one probably sounds like because these mini ones are scary enough!

 photo IMG_3877.jpg

The Muttart grows Poinsettias and always has an amazing display of them every year.

And you can even buy some to take home, like these aqua ones which are so cool:

Too Faced Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks set.jpg

Pretty, hey? I don’t know how they get that shade though. I do know that Poinsettia shades are dependent upon how much light they get when growing. My piano teacher, the nun, used to grow them and sell them, and she had these cardboard houses all over the piano room with poinsettias in them. I suspect the blue is because of some blue dye in the water? If you know, tell us!

This little Too Faced Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks($45) set is DARLING….and I think worth it! It’s been one of my favourite holiday makeup items I’ve been lucky to preview.

I mean, the blushes are tiny, but they’re so pigmented you’d get so much use out of them-I’ve been wearing this Love Hangover blush and the Nude Melted Kisses Liquid Lipstick in Nude a LOT and there’s no dent it it yet. Just a little dip is all you need for these babies!

Swatchy Time!

And the other shades in the set are just as pretty:

And lip swatchy time! I like the Too Faced Melted Kisses Liquid Lipsticks, although they can be a tad drying. I always prep my lips with a lip balm before wearing them. BOY, they last! If you’re a fan of liquid lipsticks and blush this Too Faced Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks set is nice. And hey-you could easily split it up into three gifts/stocking stuffers too!

I also wanted to show you how I’ve been wearing eyeliner lately. I’ve got a TRICK you guys, and it’s a good one especially if you have hooded eyes like me.

Too Faced Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks set.jpg

So, I don’t do full on liquid eyeliner cat eyes because HELLO…Hooded Eyes dudes(I’m holding my eye really OPEN here hahaha). I’d have to make the liner really thick to show up and sure…sometimes I enjoy that look. Marky does it pretty much every day of her life. But it covers up any eyeshadow on your limited lid space. So, this is what I’ve been doing lately and it works well.

I’ll line my upper waterline with a really good eyeliner like the Urban Decay pencil ones. But I’ll go a little thicker on the outer edge, still just the waterline though…and then SMUDGE IT OUT onto the outer corner of my LID with an angled liner brush…like a tiny cat eye flick…take a look.

Too Faced Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks set.jpg

See what I mean? I hope so! There’s NOTHING on my upper lash line…it’s just the outer corners where I drag the eyeliner and smudge it out to LOOK like I’ve got full on eyeliner.

 photo ClosedIMG_9740.jpg

It’s a gentle flick! But it still gives that lift and the illusion that I’ve got a bit of a cat-eye flick going on without taking up all of my lid space and covering up my eyeshadow.
 photo IMG_9739.jpg

Neat huh? I hope I explained it well and you can see from the pictures what I’m talking about? If not, let me know, I’ll try to take more in depth pics…or even a video..GASP…hahaha!

So starts the holiday season! I love winter and Christmas in THEORY…but I honestly don’t really care for all the freakin’ Christmas music. I KNOW…and I’m a musical person! I play the piano, guitar and violin! BUT…I don’t like all the bands and singers doing their version of Christmas SONGS…not the carols… I love Christmas CAROLS…you know, the traditional stuff. But I can’t stand crap like I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus…WHY. And I don’t need to hear Gwen Stefani and everyone else singing it, ya’ know what I mean? #ChristmasMusicGRINCH

Happy Black Friday Shopping! Are you picking up anything today?

After last week’s emotional post about my friend, I decided I needed a break. An Adventure! To take my mind off all the horrible stuff going on around me. I love going to the mountains here in Alberta. Heck, if I could afford it, I’d move there in a heart beat. I wish I could. I really do. So, that’s where we went.

And so, I’m gonna spam you again with all the beautiful scenery I experienced last week in Banff. #lovealberta

Banff Alberta Overpasses

This is something I’ve never showed you before. Canada Parks built these overpasses for the animals to help them cross the highways. It’s a seamless forest-y walkway for them, and I think they work actually! You hardly ever see any roadkill in Banff National Park anymore.

We didn’t spend a lot of time in Banff this trip because we really wanted to see Lake Louise this time.

Lake Louise, Alberta.jpg

Lake Louise, Alberta

And yup. It’s probably one of the prettiest spots on Earth. She doesn’t disappoint. Get ready for the money shot.

Lake Louise, Alberta

Lake Louise, Alberta1.jpg

Lake Louise, Alberta

Lake Louise is an alpine lake, and is known for its sparkling blue-green waters. It’s situated at the base of glaciers as you can see.

Lake Level view!

I’m sorry, I just couldn’t stop snapping pictures! I could just sit there for hours staring and thinking.

Lake Louise, Alberta.jpg

Lake Louise, Alberta

Here’s a view to the left. I did turn my head and look around hahaha!

Lake Louise, Alberta.jpg

Lake Louise, Alberta

This is a time I wish every picture came with a smell-o-vision button. The air up there is so CLEAN. So fresh. And you can pick out every single scent that’s there-pine? Wild flowers? Greenery? It’s surreal, and so hard to explain?! I wish I could do it justice, but I don’t think any words can really tell you what it smells like there. You just have to come and smell and see for yourselves!

Moraine Lake, Alberta:

This gorgeous lake view used to be on the back of our old $20 bills.

Moraine Lake is a lot bluer than Lake Louise, and there’s a science-y time reason for that!

SO blue.

I regret not buying this amazing toilet paper holder in Banff. I swear you can buy the weirdest/most amazing things there.

 photo IMG_0868.jpg

I couldn’t get Terry on board with it for some reason HAHA. He couldn’t see my decorating vision! Can you?

 photo IMG_0869.jpg

Found a stocking stuffer for Marky. It’s her favourite word I swear.

Kiehl's Creme de Corps Nurturing Body Washing Cream.jpg

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Nurturing Body Washing Cream

And a little beauty bonus for you! It’s so DRY in Calgary and Banff. I thought it was dry up here in Edmonton, but every time I go down south and to the mountains my legs get SO ITCHY that I can’t stop scratching like a buffoon. This Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Nurturing Body Washing Cream saved me from scratching my legs off. It’s really thick and lathers nicely into the softest foamy foam ever. It smells very shea buttery too-nice and gentle. But it doesn’t leave your skin greasy feeling at all for something so moisturizing. It cleanses really well too! I love it, and from now on it’s coming with me on any trips for sure. Perfect for this near menopause gal who can’t stand body butters!

You just can’t beat Alberta skies I’m telling you. Nope. No way. No how.

 photo IMG_0871.jpg

And that was my little adventure last week! I hope to have many more adventures to show you. You see, my hubby was laid off at the end of July, and forced to take early retirement. It was a bit of a shock to us, but he only wanted to work until Marky was finished college anyways. He has been still working though for Sportsnet Productions, but as a freelancer. At first we thought maybe he should get a full-time staff position and then we started to REALLY think about it. WHY. Freelance work is the way to go for him right now, so he can enjoy life for a change. It was a scary decision for us-since he’s the only bread winner in the family. But, life is short. And we want to enjoy what time we’ve got left here! Having sick friends really makes you think about what you want to do with what little time you’ve got left here. And we want to have some fun adventures together!

I promise to get back to blogging about beauty this week! I have quite a bit of things I’ve been loving to show you-specifically skincare. And also some decluttering posts too! YUP. Lots of stuff coming at you, so be prepared!

HUGS everyone! Have you been on any fun adventures lately?

Hey it’s Friday! Let’s chat!

Sorry I missed last week, but honestly I had quite the boring week. Nothing exciting happened. But this past week was FUN.

My hubby Terry had his first root canal. Poor baby… Me? I’ve had THREE in my lifetime, with my first at just the young old age of 18. I’ll never forget it. Let’s compare root canals, shall we? Just for FUN.

Here’s MY story: I had a fun night at the Winnipeg Ex(ummm, in Canada we have these fairs with rides and stuff that travel from city to city in the summer) eating my mini doughnuts. Then, when I came home at 2 AM and tried to sleep? BAMMMO. My tooth starts to ACHE. WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE(well, maybe second… I had appendicitis when I was 7 and had to have surgery…that probably was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced). My tooth hurt so bad…I woke my parents up crying in pain…who, bless their immigrant souls, fed me straight up 4 shots of vodka to kill the pain. It didn’t work. So, at about 4 AM my dad decided to take me to the ER. And started turning into the children’s ER, because honestly that’s where he took me most of my life-it was where he always took me! I was a sick kid..like lots…but that’s another story for another Friday. 😀 After reminding him that I was 18 now and needed to go to the regular adult ER, my dad finally figured out where to take me. In the ER I was crying so hard and loud, my poor father covered my head inside his jacket LOL…to stifle the sobs! He stroked my head too.. to try to make me feel better…me sobbing in his armpit. 😀 Of course back then in the 80s there was nothing they could do for me besides send me home with Tylenol #3s, and strong advice to call my dentist on Monday morning. After being drugged up the whole weekend from the codeine, I finally had my root canal late Monday afternoon. And that was another nightmare…they didn’t give me enough freezing! So they literally had to inject more RIGHT INTO THE OPEN NERVES. Yeah…it HURT.

Terry’s story: My tooth is bugging me. Eh, I’ll ignore it for a few weeks. Maybe I should call the dentist? Yeah, ok. It’s still bugging me so I’ll go see her. Oh, my tooth is infected? Wow! Ok, I’ll take these antibiotics for the next 2 weeks, with my scheduled root canal the next Monday. Root canal day was a long day, as my tooth was really infected and they had to drain a lot of gunk, but eh-it wasn’t so bad. In fact, I stopped at TIM HORTON’S RIGHT AFTER MY ROOT CANAL and brought home these lovely doughnuts:

 photo IMG_3516.jpg

I think I win, RIGHT???? MEN. WHY is stuff so much easier all the time for them? Sigh…oh and the doughnuts were delicious. And Terry is doing fine. 😀 I love my hubby. He’s so easy going. The complete opposite of me which is why he’s my soul mate. He’s funny…good looking…and always takes care of me. He promised my mama he would and he has!  😀

Let’s talk some beauty now! I’ve been enjoying The Body Shop Smoky Poppy Collection in my shower lately:

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy .jpg

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy shower gel? Is BLACK. Which I wasn’t expecting?? But cool nonetheless! Like a soul-less shower gel HAHAHA…Shower gel of my dreams! Apparently The Body Shop Smoky Poppy collection has real Turkish Poppy in there, but I don’t think poppies have a real fragrance? Correct me if I’m wrong, please! But my mom used to plant poppies all the time in the garden when I was a little kid. They’re kind of one of the favourite flowers of Ukraine…I mean they’re in our head wreaths, in art…they’re EVERYWHERE… and they were in our garden when I was growing up that’s for sure.

P130_7
People used to STEAL the seeds from our garden! Which pissed my mama off to no end. She had to be quick to harvest the seeds before druggies stole them. I think they thought they could make opium out of them LOL 😀 😀  Good luck with that DUDES… not THAT easy hahaha. But honestly, I don’t remember Poppies having a scent? Pretty sure about that because as a kid I used to sniff everything in my mama’s garden, which is why I have such an attachment to certain flowers like Lily of The Valley and Orange Blossoms, and CARNATIONS…MAN…those were all such awesome scents! Little Tracy used to make a bouquet of flowers and put them in a glass on her bedside table…Ahhhhh the scent memories I’ve just stirred are amazing! The Body Shop Smoky Poppy is…hard to explain honestly. It’s a floral oriental, that’s on the weaker side of oriental. But I like it! It’s different for The Body Shop and not all fruity tooty, so kudos to them. Honestly, it really reminds me of carnations, which I LOVE. I like this new scent direction they’re taking! Keep doing it!

Terry had to work in Calgary for the weekend-it was Hockey Day In Canada! All the Canadian Hockey teams were playing, so CBC was televising them all day long. I decided to tag along, because why not? I love going to Calgary.

 photo IMG_3565.jpg

It was really WARM there! We couldn’t believe it! People were wearing shorts HAHA! It was nice to spend time with some old friends, and of course, visit Nordstrom’s!

 photo IMG_3692.jpg
These Van’s cost $38…plus did you know that you can take back pretty much ANYTHING if you change your mind? These flowery Van’s are a tad too big, but I got them anyways because the SA told me that even if I wore them OUTSIDE and felt they were too big? I could STILL bring them back for a refund?!!  YOU ROCK NORDSTROM. The Bay better take note because DUDES…that’s like OUTSTANDING customer service.

On Saturday I had fun with some old friends I haven’t seen in awhile and walked about 9.5 km around downtown Calgary! I managed to get to a Shopper’s Drug Mart for Super Redemption though!

 photo IMG_3599.jpg

I’m kinda’ glad I was in Calgary for this redemption event, because I got to redeem for some Urban Decay this time! There aren’t any Shoppers around me in Edmonton that carry Urban Decay, so YAY me! Oh, and so far I can say that that concealer and powder are AMAZING. If you love powder foundations like I do then GET them.

We had a lovely Sunday brunch at out hotel, The Westin Calgary, and a very understanding waiter because WOW everywhere in Calgary the heating was out of whack because of the warm weather. He brought this hot and flashy lady the most awesome COLD glass of ice water I’ve ever had! I’m telling you, I’ve never appreciated ice water so much until these hot flashes started.

We started driving out of town back home and started talking about Banff. So we decided WHAT THE HECK LET’S GO TO BANFF. It’s only about an hour away from Calgary, and we haven’t been there since last year during the College Road Trip, and we only stopped there for a bathroom break and didn’t really get to visit. So off we went!

The drive to Banff is kind of amazing BTW.

 photo IMG_3573.jpg

You see the mountains in the distance…and they keep getting closer….

 photo IMG_3576.jpg

And then…you’re smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Rocky Mountains…in a town…it’s CRAZY BEAUTIFUL.

 photo IMG_3586.jpg

It’s a bit of a tourist trap downtown Banff to be honest… nothing like it was 26 years ago when I first moved here that’s for sure. So many more brand name stores like Roots and The Gap are in town. But it’s still quite beautiful! The air? You can tell is different when you breathe it in. It’s so clean. And crisp. I love it. I’d love to live here if I could, but I’d need at least $1 million to buy a place it’s ridiculously expensive….but I can dream!

Our first stop in Banff is a family tradition…and even though we were less one family member, I  had specific text instructions from Marky to honour the tradition and buy her some candy hahaha!

 photo IMG_3701.jpg

I’ll say this…they sell EVERY kind of candy???? YUCKKKK.

 photo IMG_3579.jpg

But I got Marky her FAVOURITE! It’s not sold here in stores, but is an import from the UK. What can I say…Narnia kid or what LOL!

 photo IMG_3707.jpg

And something for me that I can’t get anywhere else!

 photo IMG_3700.jpg

It’s a sick love some of us 80s kids have for Thrills…maybe it’s because we used to get our mouths washed out with soap for swearing when we were little… 😛 I think it’s actually a lavender taste, not soap?  But I can’t help it! If I see a pack, I buy it…and CHEW… 😛

We had to stoop at the COWS store…because it’s amazing and makes me laugh so much!

 photo IMG_3581.jpg

Right??? And of course, I had to buy this one!

 photo IMG_3580.jpg

I DIED. I’m starting to have the most awesome Breaking Bad T-shirt Collection I think LOL!

We shared a cinnamon sugar and lemon Beaver Tail…because it was HUGE…like the span of Terry’s chest! We tend to share treats now that we’re old and chubby…and that’s ok with me!

 photo IMG_3592.jpg

Sadly, it was time to get back home…  🙁   but first a pit stop for the most perfect chocolate milkshake ever from the cult Peter’s Drive-In in Calgary:

 photo IMG_3594.jpg

Peter’s Drive-In is famous in Alberta for no nonsense burgers and shakes. SO GOOD. And DON’T order the large fries…it’s a SHOEBOX of fries…I’m serious. SHOEBOX.

OH, and Marky is taking a Character Design Class, and the last assignment was Mickey Mouse, and my daughter’s version of Mickey CRACKS ME UP so much that I have to share:

 photo IMG_3192.jpg

I dig this Mickey… he’s like EVERY MAN MICKEY, right?  😀

And that was my awesome week! How was YOURS? Did you do anything fun? Find something new and awesome? Share! Let’s CHAT!
