Those of you that are around my age probably remember using this excuse to get out of a date on Saturday night: Sorry, I have to wash my hair on Saturday night. Yup, that seriously was an excuse we used to give, and honestly it really wasn’t the reason you didn’t want to go out, it was because of this:
And Fantasy Island! And then, Saturday Night Live! Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner, Jon Belushi-the good ole’ days of SNL! Saturday was a great night to stay home and catch up on your beauty routine while watching some of your favourite TV shows. Which, also included washing your hair, so it’s not like we were really lying HAHAHA.
Fastforward to now, thirty years later, and I’ll still give any excuse to not have to leave the house on Saturday night. I love staying in on Saturdays and doing some beauty detoxing. Especially this week! All the turkey, chocolate, Baileys-UGGGH. I really feel the need to detox big time!
Here’s what’s on my detox menu tonight:
Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask
Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask($27) is a deep, pore cleansing mask that uses no clay at all. Say what? Yup. No Clay. No mud. Nada.
It’s a thick, sticky gel that smells good enough to eat, and it probably is. BIO Beaute is Nuxe’s natural and organic line. Myrtle Leaf Extract will help detoxify, and Orange, Lemon and Mandarin Essential Oils will clarify the skin. This my friends, is the detox mask you’ve been waiting for if you’re like me and most clay ones suck out every last drop of moisture from your face. The directions say to apply Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask and leave it on for 5 minutes. What I do, is apply it and then make myself some tea. Chamomile please. In a skull mug, because we’re detoxifying remember?
About 30 minutes later, I’ll massage the gel into my skin and BAZINGA! It starts to change into an oil, lifting out any clogged dirt in my pores, especially around my nose. I take my time massaging the oil and let it really get the job done. Then, add a bit of water and that oil starts to emulsify-just like an oil-cleanser. Once the mask is rinsed off, I’m left with clear, hydrated, skin. Pores are clean! It’s my favourite mask right now, and I use it every week to keep my skin clear.
Dinner tonight will be something light! Vegetable soup with a side of roasted garlic broccoli. YUMMM. I made this soup last week and we’re having it again tonight. It’s a great, light detoxing meal.
2 cans chicken broth (I use low-sodium)
3 cups V-8 juice (Again, I use low-sodium V8 or tomato juice)
2 cans Italian diced tomatoes(no salt)
1 small onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 package sliced mushrooms
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 zucchini, diced
1 yellow squash, diced
2 cups fresh or frozen green beans
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
3-4 cups shredded cabbage
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
Salt and Pepper to taste
Sauté the garlic, onions, carrots, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes in a large pan sprayed with some cooking spray. Add to a large crockpot, with the remaining ingredients. Cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until vegetables are cooked. EASY! And tasty too. This recipe makes a LOT of soup and it freezes well.
And when it’s time for bed, I’ll continue my skin detox while I sleep with Nuxellence Detox.
Our skin cells produce waste, just like our bodies. To be able to renew, cells need to detoxify. And that happens at night, when we go to sleep.
How do skin cells detoxify? Science-y time!
-Glutiathione, an antioxidant converts toxins into easily eliminated water-soluble elements
-Proteasomes, a protein degradation “machine” within the cell that can digest a variety of proteins and recycle damaged ones
-Autolysis, which is a more comprehensive system that destroys all damaged proteins and cell components.
Until now, most skincare products worked on targeting the proteasomes to detoxify. But they get overwhelmed when there’s an overload and buildup of toxins. That’s when Autolysis steps in to compensate. But as we age, there’s a general slowdown and our natural cell detoxing isn’t as effective. Nuxellence Detox($65) promotes Autolysis to help keep cell detoxification young and working by using an extract of silk tree and sugars. It increases the enzymes that are necessary for keeping these detox systems humming along. Nuxellence Detox also helps repair altered Mitochondrial DNA to restore cells’ vital energy, so that detox is even more effective.
Now, you are supposed to use Nuxellence Detox every night, but I can’t as it’s quite powerful for me. If you have stronger and more resilient skin then you’d be fine, but I use it about 3 times a week, and it’s especially effective using it after the Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask. It smells floral, but not overpowering at all and the scent doesn’t linger. You can even put another night cream on top if you wish, but I usually don’t. Sometimes I’ll put a face oil on top if my skin is feeling extra parched. But tomorrow morning, my skin will look fresher, brighter, cleaner-younger! I will look rested and radiant, as if I’ve had slept for an extra 2 hours says Nuxe and I say YUP! I really do look like I’ve had my beauty sleep when I use Nuxellence Detox!
Well, time to go get started on my soup and start my Saturday Night Detox! There’s no favourite TV shows on Saturdays anymore, so I’ll probably watch a movie with Marky tonight. Last Saturday night home with the redhead!
Do you have a detox beauty routine too? What products do you use?
