You know, it’s when I clean out my bathroom and am able to take a close look at what’s in my cupboards that I realize I have a problem. You’d think I’d notice BEFORE THEN. Nope.

Mask Overload #MaskFiend

Holy CRAP…when did this situation happen???!! It’s ludicrous.

Granted, some of them are PR Samples, so for those I scream UNCLE, and you can’t hold me responsible for. But some of that ridiculous mask overload is my fault, and hey…I’m owning up to it. Because you know what? I’M A #MASKFIEND. There, I finally admitted it! And it feels GOOD.

What’s a #MaskFiend? Well, if you love the instant and sometimes a few days lasting effects of INSTANT BOOST SKINCARE  for your skin woes, then hey….JOIN ME. OWN IT MAN. It’s ok. We could have worse addictions…and I know, I’m from a drug-riddled-addicted-family that only me and my little bro escaped the really awful effects of so, I know what I’m talking about here, I swear to God.

Ok, well enough self-loathing. Let’s analyze this mask overload, shall we? More Tracy Unplugged for your entertainment. Although seriously when am I NOT UNPLUGGED??! I gotta get a new saying, so if you can help me with that I’ll love you forever.

The WorkHorsies(see what I did there?) from my Forever Fave Love Avène

Avène Loves

I can’t live without these two masks from Avène, so trust me, these are repurchases. The Eau Thermale Avène Soothing Moisture Mask is a workhorse mask for me and my dry, easily irritated aging skin. It’s something I slap on after a shower without even thinking. I never wipe it off. I’ll even use it as a moisturizer if my skin is feeling REALLY dry…like now. We have had no rain here, and I’m sure you’ve all heard of the #FortMacMurray Wildfire. It’s so SO DRY HERE you guys….I walk across the carpet in my house, and I am setting off SPARKS at anything I touch and it’s not even winter #NOHUMIDITYATALL

The Avéne Antirougeurs Redness Relief Soothing Repair Mask is another I’ll slap on every other day to calm and soothe my red face. It’s just so good…both of them are. Pretty much Holy Grails for this #maskfiend that’s for sure.

Sleeping Masque

Amore Pacific and Nip+Fab Soften

The Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Sleeping Recovery Masque($72) I bought after trying a sample. Yup. One night, one try was all it took for me to buy the full size. It’s the best sleeping mask I’ve tried to date. I don’t know, I think it’s the Bamboo Sap that my skin loves, because there’s another mask I’ll show you later with the same ingredient), but it works for me. I use this at night when my skin is extra-parched like right now. I’ll slather on a light layer and wait a bit for it to sink in before hitting the sheets, otherwise my pillowcase gets the brunt of the good stuffs. It takes a bit of time to sink in before you can go to sleep, but hey…that’s ok with me because it IS a mask so, I expect that. The next morning my skin is so soft and smooth and flake-free…it’s amazing stuff.

The Nip+Fab Soften Kale Fix Clay Mask is a new one that was sent for me to try, and if you have dry, dehydrated skin that breakouts, you NEED this. It’s not a drying out clay mask, so this works for those of us that have dehydrated skin. It’ll draw out any gunk without making your skin look like the Sahara. It’s a great drugstore find that’s for sure!

Glamglow and Laneige

Ok, confession time: I had NO idea that the GlamGlow Gravity Mud Firming Treatment was a PEEL OFF MASK??!! #FML I swear I’ve used this twice and hated it because it was so DAMN HARD to wash off HAHAHAHAHAHA so, I can’t really give you a review other than it makes you look all silver like The Terminator#2, so…yeah…but initial thoughts are that there’s a bit of firming so… I’ll get back to you about that bugger, now that I know how to use it. I really need to start reading beauty directions on the packages again. Seriously.

The Laneige Mulberry Yogurt Repairing Mask is only $33 Canadian which is a STEAL when it comes to masks. I like this one! It’s formulated with extracts from raspberries, blueberries, wolfberries(WOOHOO what’s a wolf berry because DUDE I want one), cranberries, and strawberries- a Multiberry Complex that delivers loads of nutrients and antioxidants deep into the skin to help nourish and eliminate harmful free radicals. It’s SUPER nourishing and hydrating- I mean it feels and smells like a yogurt berry smoothie hahaha! It’s a lovely, nourishing, moisturizing mask that I’m happy to have in my #maskoverload arsenal.
#MaskFiend1.jpgLet’s start with the bottom of that trifecta of AWESOME. The Filorga Meso-Mask I’ve talked about HERE , so read about why I love that one so much and will always have it on hand.

The Erborian Bamboo Waterlock made my Skincare 2015 faves list, and with good reason! It’s the best hydrating mask I’ve ever used. It’s a refreshing gel that you can use as a rinse-off mask, or as a leave-on treatment. Bamboo sap and fibers helps to lock in moisture and you immediately feel hydrated. The sap contains amino acids, to help hydrate the skin, while the fiber contains proteins and lipids to help maintain skin’s natural moisture. I’ll put it on after I shower and just let it sink in-why rinse it off? It also reduces visible signs of fatigue, so I love using this overnight. And the bamboo scent is so calming and green and lovely. Really one of the best masks I’ve ever tried!

The Clinique Sculptwear Contouring Massage Cream Mask($54) I got during a Shopper’s Optimum Points Redemption, so it was sort of free, and it’s ok? It’s really nourishing and moisturizing I’ll give it that much. But as far as any sculpting or contouring going on,  I call #TRENDBULLSHIT on that…good job Clinique on using those buzz words that are going around the beauty world right now, but your mask is just hydrating. That’s about it. At least it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, so I’ll give you that much. But it doesn’t do much more than that.

These are the two masks I use when I want to brighten and make my skin look super CLEAN and NEW.

Consonant DHE Mask($45) is a 100% natural mask that’s formulated to detoxify, hydrate, and exfoliate to give you more radiant, healthy, youthful-looking skin after just one use. I bought this one form when I became quite taken with the brand and wanted to try more of their products. It’s formulated with mineral-rich Manicouagan clay that’s extracted from the site of a 215 million year-old asteroid crash in Quebec like HELLOOOO— that’s like SOMETHING SPECIAL you guys! It detoxifies and clarifies your skin with the help of willow bark and tea tree extracts. Plus it’s got the potent HydrExtreme that I talked about HERE . This mask has a unique blend of alpha hydroxy acid fruit enzymes that gently exfoliate, revealing softer and smoother skin without any kind of irritation whatsoever. And my skin usually HATES any kind of glycolic or AHA’s, yet in this mask, those ingredients work! It’s so GOOD and it’s available at Sephora now so YAY for that!

The Caudalie Glycolic Peel($39) is a peel treatment mask that tightens pores, reduces oil, renews skin texture, and gives that immediate burst of radiance to your skin. In 10 minutes dudes. Yup, it works that fast. And it’s not irritating at all, even for my super-sensitive skin. It contains a butt load of active ingredients like papaya enzymes and glycolic acid that brighten and give you that radiant, young skin we all crave. GOOD STUFF.

Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask

#MaskFiend .jpg

Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask

I can’t remember why I picked up Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask($21 USD) but HOOWEE this is good stuff. If your skin is REALLY DRY, or you dried it out doing something extreme like trying to dry up a breakout-this is the stuff you need to repair you damaged skin barrier. It’s so emollient…like almost butter. I use this when I’ve had to combat any breakouts by using some kind of Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid Treatment, because LORDY those things parch my skin something fierce. This mask has all kinds of plant-based oils, essential fatty acids, and lipids that dry skin needs to repair and replenish itself. It’s super creamy and soothes and reduces any kind of inflammation to instantly restore radiance and soothe dryness. It’s the best healing mask I’ve tried, and it’s affordable too, so YAY. Love Paula’s Choice LOTS.

Is that it? I think that’s it, HOLY SHIZ. And that’s just what’s in my cupboard, because I have a skincare drawer of sheet masks too so, HOLY this is a serious issue I have??!!  I still have a few jar masks that I need to try that have been sent to me so…OY VEY. I’ll get to them soon, I promise, because that’s what I do. I just feel the need to actually USE one of these up first before cracking one of those open, ya’ know what I’m saying’? Christ on a BIKE.  😛

Are you a #MaskFiend too? What are some of your faves? Share! Enable a fellow #MaskFiend…like I need any help  😀 😀

Let’s talk masks today! I have four that I’ve been playing around with for a few months(BAD, LAZY TRAKEE) and finally decided it’s maybe time to share my thoughts on these suckers. And, clear out my photo library, because DUDES I’m hoping to finally get a new computer this month! Wahoo! Fingers crossed! My Macbook is 5 years old and it’s so slow, even I can think faster than this dinosaur on my lap.

Masks, Masks, Masks

SPOILER ALERT: Two of these are WORTHLESS, One is MEH, and one is GREAT! Time to make your guesses and wagers on which is which! And lemme know in the comments if you guessed right, K?

Let’s start with the WORST one, and to be honest it’s only the worst by like a single hair.

Bliss Multi-‘Face’-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask($60)

 Bliss Multi-'Face'-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask.jpg

Bliss Multi-‘Face’-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask

Stay FAR AWAY from this…this…I don’t even know what to say. It’s apparently “a spa-powered mask that corrects six of the most common visible signs of aging concerns in one flexible clay treatment”. What it really is? IMPOSSIBLE. TO. WASH. OFF. And hey, it’s really too bad, because the ingredients are promising. It has 10% Glycolic Acid to exfoliate, activated charcoal to decongest pores, and even Jojoba Oil to moisturize so that this Kaolin mask won’t dry out your skin. And it doesn’t-I’ll give it that.

Bliss Multi-'Face'-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask.jpg

Bliss Multi-‘Face’-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask

But MAN. This stuff sinks into your pores and doesn’t want to leave! WTF MAN. I’ve never experienced a mask that was so hard to remove. You have to stand under your shower forever to rinse it off, and even then-you’ll probably still have black crap in your pores like I did. BIG BLACK PORES. It’s just horrible.

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask($92)

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask.jpg

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask

I bought this one on a whim during last year’s November Sephora Sale, but it came in a special package with other samples from PTR, so yeah…review is a long time coming. At least the samples that came along with it were good so it wasn’t a total loss and I didn’t spend anymore for the special packaging. I’ve been trying for months to see if this gold mask would do SOMETHING for me. And? It DOESN’T. It’s supposed to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, firm and moisturize-yadda, yadda, yadda. There’s Caffeine to tighten and firm the look of skin which is ok, but that’s all just a temporary fix. The intriguing ingredients for me was peridot, which is rich in magnesium and is supposed to re-energize and help reduce the aging effects of stress. I gotta a lot of stress to deal with guys. I need any help I can get! And of course, there’s 24K gold to give skin a radiant glow and hydrate skin. Didn’t know gold hydrates, that’s a new one for me.  😛

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask.jpg

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask

I’ve tried and tried to use this sucker but I HATE IT. For one thing the texture is not my kind of pampering mask. It’s like trying to spread thick, sticky honey on your face. You’re supposed to leave Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask on for 10 minutes, but that’s just stupid when a mask is this expensive, right? Unless a mask has some kind of acid in it, I tend to leave it on for as long as I can stand it. And usually that means an hour before I rinse it off. Result? ZIP. Nothing. Nada.

The only thing good about this mask is that you look like Dana/Zuul from Ghostbusters while it’s on your face and can walk around the house saying in a growly voice: I am The Gatekeeper…We must prepare for the coming of Gozer, The Destructor!

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask

Zuul/Dana and her golden sheen on her face-you can sort of see it here

Other than that, there’s nothing else I can tell you that’s good about this mask. Hydrates? Sure. That’s about it. Don’t waste your money on this one. I’m still trying to use it up, friggin’ useless huge ass tub’o’gold. Thinking about putting it on my face at Halloween this year and imitating Zuul’s voice when I hand out candy to the kiddies.

The MEH Mask: Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask($108)

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask.jpg

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

WOAH, yeah the price on this one is WOWZA, hey? But apparently that doesn’t matter to most of us, because at least here in Canada, Fresh is the top selling natural skincare brand at Sephora.  Does Fresh still have makeup? Anybody remember that? Their mascara was the bomb! Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask has of course, Black Tea ferment or Kombucha which is an antioxidant that helps to defend against wrinkle-causing free radicals while softening, smoothing, and enhancing radiance. It also has lychee seed extract that supports collagen, and interesting to me at least-jicama root juice which hydrates.

Perricone MD Chloro Plasma .jpg

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

What I do really like about this one is that as soon as you put it on, you say AHHHHHH! It cools your face and the whipped, grainy texture is pretty neat too. It’s a great summer mask for sure! But… all I smell is cucumber, and I mean I love cucumbers, but why is that the only thing I smell, Fresh? I see that Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract is an ingredient, but shouldn’t this smell more like tea? Or give me some lychee at least, hey? And so, I’m thinking this is just an overpriced cucumber mask, and that makes me sad and betrayed feeling! When I’m promised tea, I WANT TEA DANG IT. I do like this mask and how it feels, but not enough to repurchase it, especially at that crazy price point. I might as well pulverize my own cucumbers and slap that on my face and save myself $100.

Perricone MD Chloro Plasma

($70 in the US, not sure how much it costs here because it’s not on the Canadian Sephora Site, so I’d guess add a good $15 to that price tag-stupid exchange rate)

 Perricone MD Chloro Plasma.jpg

Perricone MD Chloro Plasma

From Sephora’s Site: Perricone MD Chloro Plasma is formulated with the science of phytonutrient microcapsules for deep detoxification and cleansing of the skin. The mask addresses loss of radiance, dull and fatigued skin, enlarged pores, fine lines, and rough skin texture.

Perricone MD Chloro Plasma.jpg

Perricone MD Chloro Plasma

Heck yes! I really like this one! I picked up this mini-size on one of my California trips, and it’s lasted a long time-months-although I only used it once a week, because that’s all my skin needs with this one. Perricone MD Chloro Plasma has Chlorophyll that supposedly deeply soothes and detoxifies skin. There’s Spirulina(Blue-green Algae) that nourishes skin with loads of nutrients. And there’s Green Tea, which is of course a powerful antioxidant. What’s cool about this one is the application. You rub it on your face, and as you rub the little microcapsules burst open and the mask turns green. I like being green LOL! You leave Perricone MD Chloro Plasma on for 10 minutes and Bazinga! Smooth, radiant skin with closed up pores will be yours! And it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all so win! This is by far my favourite detox mask at the moment, and since I’m out, I will probably pick up another one at the end of the month when we take Marky back to California.

Wahoo it’s Friday! The first Friday of August! Which means I’m on the #countdowntofall #sorrynotsorry  because fall is my FAVOURITE season, and it’s kind of short here in Alberta. I’m hoping for a cooler August so that the season is extended a bit. But looking at next week’s forecasts of +27C means I’m SOL for awhile  😛

Are you a mask junkie like I am? I love them, but it’s tough to find a good one that actually does something, hey? And is it my imagination or has the price of these tub masks really gone up? Guess that’s why I tend to go for sheet masks lately, as they are definitely cheaper00! What’s your favourite jar mask right now?

A few weeks ago, I scoffed at higher end natural/organic skincare. But that was then. And this is now. I UNDERSTAND.
I’ve been quite enamoured recently with the skin care line by Tata Harper. Tata Harper uses 100% natural & non-toxic ingredients. They manufacture their own products so that everything is always fresh. There’s between 9 to 29 active ingredients in every bottle; most cosmetic companies only use 1 to 3. That means you’ll notice a difference in your skin when you use Tata Harper. And oh yeah-you WILL notice a difference quickly.

The Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask($55 CDN) has changed my skin so much in only a couple of weeks:

Tata Harper Resurfacing MaskIMG_1557.jpg

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Sclerotium Gum (derived from Root Vegetables and Corn), Lactobacillus Ferment, Leuconostoc Ferment Filtrate (Radish Root Extract/ Racine De Radis Extrait), Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Ferment Extract/(Grenadier) D’extrait De Fruits Fermentent, Caprylyl/Capryl Wheat Bran/Straw Glycosides, Maltooligosyl Glucoside (Derived From Carbohydrate Syrup), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder*, Hydrolyzed Corn Strarch, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate (Derived From Corn Starch), Fusel Wheat Bran/Straw Glycosides, Kaolinite (Rose Clay), Polyglyceryl-5 Oleate (Naturally Derived), Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (Derived From Coconut), Glyceryl Caprylate (Derived From Fatty Acids Of Corn, Coconut And Glycerin), Sodium Phytate (Derived From Rice Bran), Essential Oil Blend Clinical Grade Essential Oils**, Citral, Citronellol, Limonene.
*Ingredients from organic farming
**Fragrances from 100% natural, clinical-grade essential oils

Look at all the good stuff! Pink Clay gently exfoliates and cleanses while stimulating blood and lymph circulation, Willow Bark extract exfoliates and encourages cell renewal, Witch hazel reduces inflammation, and beet extract promotes hydration in the outer layers of the skin to help increase elasticity. Bet you’ve never used a skin care product with beets! Who knew beets were good for something besides borscht?

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask has a watery jelly texture-it’s a bit runny actually. A thin, light layer is all you need, so don’t waste it! It smells divine too-all of Tata Harper’s products smell calming, herbal, green, and floral. As it dries, you’ll feel a tightening effect on the skin. It doesn’t burn or sting like some masks that resurface( like OUCH Glamglow my god that mask hurts like a mother). Leave it on for at least 20 minutes, and then rinse it off and BAZINGA! Pores are minimized, skin tone looks more even, face feels SMOOOOOOOOOOVE and even glows too!

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask IMG_1558.jpg

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

Since I’ve been using my Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, my skin is smoother, clearer, calmer, less clogged-it’s just BETTER. I haven’t had a break out in awhile now, so that’s something! Tata Haper recommends once a week, but I’ve been using it twice because I find I need to exfoliate more than the average person. If you’re more sensitive, then just stick to once a week.

I got my Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask at Lux Beauty Boutique here in Edmonton. They carry the whole line, and the girls there are wonderful and knowledgeable. I love going there a lot! Tell them I sent ya if you stop by! You can also order Tata Harper from Sephora, and from the Tata Harper website, which does ship to Canada as well.

I used to think that organic/natural skincare was…well…not worth my time or money. Isn’t that horrible? But I’ve changed my tune! I’m singing the praises of organic skincare-and a pricey one to boot. I’m a believer! Do you use organic/natural skincare? What are some of your favourites?

As you all know, I am prone to redness. I touch something, I turn red. I eat something, I turn red. Story of my life. So when something promises to help calm that redness, I want it.

 photo IMG_7626.jpg

Boscia Cool Blue Calming Mask

Boscia Cool Blue Calming Mask($41 CDN) is a peel-off mask that instantly cools, calms, and hydrates. It has a bunch of interesting ingredients including something called sea whip, which helps to soothe and calm skin by blocking inflammation caused by external irritants and allergens. It also has willow herb which reduces redness, and aloe vera to hydrate and heal.

Last week I had a glass of wine and BOOOOOOOM my face turned bright red and just wouldn’t calm down. I sometimes get a light flush on my cheeks from a glass of wine, but for some reason this time was really bad. So I thought what the heck, lets see what this Boscia Cool Blue Calming Mask can do! I slathered a thick layer all over my face, being careful to avoid my eyebrows, lips and hairline. The best part of this mask is the cool and refreshing sensation you feel on the skin. There’s something called peppermint-derived frescolat in it, and at first it’s kind of tingly, but you get used to it and it doesn’t burn or hurt at all. It felt so good on my hot face! After about 20 minutes, I peeled it off and Bazinga! The redness was toned down. My skin was smooth. And even felt a bit firmer too! I love it!

You’re supposed to use Boscia Cool Blue Calming Mask twice a week to get the full benefits of the anti-inflammatory effect, but that can get a bit expensive as you kind of need a lot of it every time you use it. All peel off masks are like that though-you need a thick layer to be able to peel it off easily. I’d love for Boscia to make this in a bigger size for that reason, as I’d love to start using it twice a week. But for now, I think it’s great to have as an emergency redness reducer, and that’s what I’ll use it for!

You can find the Boscia Cool Blue Calming Mask at Sephora right now! It would be great to get during the 20% off sale!

Happy Halloweeny Day! Guess what I’m doing today? GOING TO THE DENTIST. I have a toothache. 🙁 I hate going to the dentist.

*product sent by the lovely PR, and BOY do I wish this mask could get rid of toothaches too! 😉

Today I have two products to show you that will help you with breakouts and those pesky blackheads. The first one is Bioderma Intensive Purifying Care:

 photo 811db8f9-f86a-4de1-9fb4-ee348b22ec48.jpg

Bioderma Intensive Purifying Care:

Bioderma Intensive Purifying Care($26.95 CDN) is SERIOUS business people, and I caution those of you with normal to dry skin to NOT try this! It’s meant for really oily, breakout-prone skin and if you don’t have that you will just irritate the HECK outta of your skin. You DON’T want to do that. This is not like other acne treatments I’ve ever tried-it’s more of a lotion that absorbs instantly into the skin. It has a fresh, melon scent and MAN does it ever mattify skin and is amazing at controlling oil. I have normal to dry skin, but sometimes I get a bit shiny around my nose. When I tested out this stuff, it felt like my oil glands were shut right off. The star ingredient is something Bioderma calls Sébium AI. Sébium AI speeds up the elimination of spots and blackheads and prevents them from reappearing. It apparently limits the growth of P.acnes(Phillip? Peter? Pooky? what’s the P stand for-anyone?) the bacteria at the origin of the inflammation that causes the spots. It also soothes any redness and irritation and reduces any scars. It’s way too harsh for me, but if you have really oily skin, it’s worth trying I say! I will say after I used it on my nose, blackheads were kept at bay for a good week!

Next is a pore-clearing, blackhead removing mask from good ole Avon:

 photo IMG_5761.jpg

Avon Clearskin Black Mineral Mask

Avon Clearskin Black Mineral Mask($6.99 CDN) is an oil-absorbing mineral clay mask that pulls out pore-clogging dirt and oil like a vacuum. I tested it out on my nose, because that’s the only place I get some oiliness. It’s pretty cool! It changes from black to white as it dries, and there’s a cooling sensation that happens as it tightens. It’s not really drying thank goodness, and leaves skin feeling clean and soft, and more importantly-pores are CLEAN! I use this once a week on my nose to keep it looking presentable. Good stuff!

Who knew Bioderma made some wicked acne skincare! Has anyone else ever tired any of their acne products? I’m kind of curious now! What products do you use to keep pores clean?

*products sent by PR for review, clean pores are the result!  [emoji white smiling face]
