Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms($12) are another new product for the Mary Kay At Play Summer 2014 Collection. I love how they keep coming out with affordable, great makeup options every season! They keep surprising me to be honest! I keep thinking, what ELSE can Mary Kay come out with that’s great quality, yet only costs $12? Lip Balms! That’s what!

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms.jpg

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms are FREAKIN’ ADORABLE. Tell me I’m wrong!

Right? Adorable! They deserve one more  beauty shot, dontcha’ think?

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms .jpg

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms Orange You Lovely, Pink Again, In The Plum, Atomic Red

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms have 3 layers of colour like the name says. The outer layer is the pigmented portion of the lip balm. The middle layer is a pretty dead ringer for Radiant Orchid and is more of a lip balm jelly texture that adds brightness to each shade. The middle is just white, and I think it’s just the lip balm on its own, un-tinted. It could be an extra dose of moisture, but don’t quote me on that one! There’s a bit of Titanium Dioxide in the ingredients list, so there’s a hint of sun protection too. Just a hint, but hey-I’ll take it! They are a petrolatum-based lip balm, and for me that’s cool. It works to keep my lips feeling good so I don’t mind the ingredient. What is amazing to me, is that when you swatch them, the colour is consistent and not patchy at all like other layered lip balms I’ve tried(talking to you Clarins and those Jelly lip balm things that are ridiculously overpriced and patchy and…can you tell I’m not a fan of them LOL).

Triple Layer Swatchy Time!

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms .jpg

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms Orange you Lovely, Pink Again, In The Plum, Atomic Red

They swatch sheer, but a couple of swipes gives you pretty decent pigmentation. At least you can see the colour on your lips, and to me that’s what really matters when it comes to tinted lip balms. I hate when I can’t see any colour on my lips, because what’s the point then, right? The Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms aren’t like that at all, so YAY! Take a  look!

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms .jpg

Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms

The almost have a soft, milky appearance to them which I like! Mary Kay calls it a glow, and sure ok, I can sorta’ see it-but it’s a soft, muted glow that’s seriously pretty. It’s pretty unique of a finish in my vast stash of lip balms I tell ya, and I dig it. A LOT. Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms glide on smoothly with no tugging on the lips at all. They’re pretty foolproof in application, and you don’t need a mirror for these pretty babies! And that is like a must for me when it comes to tinted lip balms. I think of them as fuss-free, throw-in-my-purse-don’t need-a-mirror-to-look-good summertime product. And these are exactly that!

The silky, creamy texture and the milky look have me addicted! Not to mention how good they make my lips feel. You can see how moisturized they look in the pictures. They look almost line-less for once! Alas, the staying power is an hour, but it’s a lip balm and I don’t expect much longer of a wear time than that at all. I can just pull it out, and reapply to my heart’s content no matter where I am! And the more I apply, the BETTER my lips feel. Love, love, LOVE.

You can order Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balms from your local Mary Kay Rep, or order online at www.marykay.ca.

Yup, I’ll admit it. In the summer, I’m more of a lip balm gal. It’s just easier, ya know? What about you? What do you prefer for summertime lips? Lip balms? Lip Gloss? Or are you a hardcore lipstick lover?

*product sent by the lovely PR, thoughts are mine as always! As is my growing love for Mary Kay. Seriously, if you haven’t listened to me and tried something from them yet-you are MISSING OUT MY FRIEND.

So Avon has these new lipsticks out, the Avon Ultra Color Absolute Lipsticks ($12 CDA). I kind of ignored them for a bit. WHY? I was busy. That’s my excuse. But take this blog post as a warning for you all to NOT ignore them as I did. Because they are SO SO SO SO GOOD.

Radiant Raisin is a bit darker than Pure Orchid, but still totally wearable and a beautiful cool plummy pink.

Again, what’s amazing about these Avon New Ultra Color Absolute Lipsticks is how thin and almost invisible feeling they are on the lips. But they still have a decent amount of pigment! It’s VOODOO magic I tell ya’. These are lipsticks made for people that hate that lipstick feeling on their lips-I’m not one of those HELLO BEAUTY BLOG, but if you are? You must try one! Avon New Ultra Color Absolute Lipsticks are really comfortable, don’t feather or bleed, and last really well. I get a good 3-4 hours of wear time before fading.

Avon New Ultra Color Absolute Lipsticks are available right now from your local Avon Rep, or by ordering online at www.avon.ca. Get one, or two, or three, maybe four? Five is not too many. Six is bordering. And seven? Still not over the edge. YET.

*products sent by the lovely PR, thoughts are always mine, because seriously. Nobody controls MY crazy. It’s ALL MINE. 😉

Are you ready for spring? I know I’m ready for spring!! Alas, spring is a good 2-3 months away for me, but maybe in your part of the world it’s a bit closer!

But just looking at the Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette($22 CAD) makes me yearning for spring. The mother-of pearl case sure has that 70s vibe to it, right? Totally get the whole “SOHO” thing. I think. Heck I was REALLY little during the 70s so I don’t have a clue to tell you the truth. I mean the highlight of my day was my nursery school nap(yeah THAT’S what pre-kindergarten used to be called, ok? Not this PRE-SCHOOL biz going on now) and then coming home to watch Popeye on TV. The only mother-of-pearl I ever saw was on my big brother’s guitar, ok?? This looks just like that. Just PEACHIER. Which I’m guessing makes it Springy-er, right? Right!

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette.jpg

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette

The Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette is tiny, but packs a load of makeup! All you really need is a mascara and this palette, and baby you are DONE.

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette.jpg

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette

The Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette has 8 eyeshadows, 5 lip glosses, a blush, and a couple of mini brushes which I ditched because I always ditch those. Do you?

If you are a pastel-Spring-loving makeup addict like I am(we are FEW and FAR BETWEEN my friends, so UNITE), then I bet you are gasping at the gorgeousness of these eyeshadows:

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette.jpg

And here’s the lip glosses and blush:

Next the lip glosses and blush swatches!

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette.jpg

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette swatches

Looks pretty nice, right? BUT as you can see, the swatches are kind of MEH. I mean for $22CAD, it’s kind of not bad, but the quality is very…drugstore…if ya know what I mean. Not that there’s anything WRONG with that. I mean, heck that’s a lot of makeup you get for $22 CAD truth be told. You’d be hard pressed to find all of these products for only $22 at a drugstore these days, which is a sad thing in itself, but that’s a whole load of OTHER feelings I got that we won’t get into here and now.

But if you’re thinking this is the pastel palette of your dreams as I was hoping it was, well…to be honest… we must keep on dreaming.

I tried a look with the mint shade there, because it’s MINT. And we all know how I feel about THAT.

 photo SephoraSOHOEYESIMG_5228.jpg

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette

 photo SEPHORASOHOCLOSEDEYESIMG_5227.jpg

Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette

Sigh. The eyeshadows are on the sheer side, and some of the more pastel shades(which are on the matte side of texture) kind of lose their pigmentation as you blend. Sigh again. And we won’t even talk about the blush, because Tracy has a major SAD about it. Ok, I will talk a tiny bit about it: Swatches pretty, doesn’t show up on the cheeks much. There you have it. Same thing applies to the lipglosses, in case you were wondering. Just replace the word cheeks with lips.

It’s a valiant try at a spring palette, but I know Sephora can do better. I really DO know they can. Like THIS one I got on sale for $12 at Christmas time. I didn’t need it. Not at all. BUT IT WAS $12 for cripes sake. And SO GOOD. It’s the Sephora Desert Sunset Eyeshadow and Blush Palette, and unfortunately it’s sold out now. BUT for the sake of sake, let’s look at the swatches for comparison. And it’ll humour me. Because if anything, that’s what I’m here for. THE HUMOUR. And maybe the makeup. Just maybe.

And these!

Sephora Desert Sunset Eyeshadow and Blush Palette.jpg

Sephora Desert Sunset Eyeshadow and Blush Palette

AND there’s even a blush and bronzer too. And they are nice.

Sephora Desert Sunset Eyeshadow and Blush Palette.jpg

Sephora Desert Sunset Eyeshadow and Blush Palette

No issues at ALL with the quality on that palette at all. One of the best $12 I’ve ever spent in my makeup junkie life.

Which makes me wonder WHY the Soho Palette just ain’t as good as I know it could be? Is it the pastels? Are they just too hard to get the quality right and up to an acceptable level for my makeup junkie standards? It just might be. I had such high hopes for the Dior Spring 2014 Collection. But after seeing the swatches of the collection from some of my good friends, I have a pastel sad. Again.

WHY can’t pastels ROCK? WHY?

If the Sephora Collection Spring In Soho Eye, Lip & Cheek Palette still intrigues you, then you can take a look at it in person at your local Sephora, or order it online at www.sephora.com.

Are you a spring loving pastel makeup fiend? Are you continually as disappointed with the quality of pastels as I am too?  I think I can count on ONE hand the pastel makeup that has been amazing in quality. ONE HAND.

I have two PANDORA’S Lips Lip Glosses($9.99CDN) to show you in the shades Maple Syrup (Light Pink) and Hay Ride(Peach). LOVE the doe foot applicator that’s a little bit longer, yet still has a slight curve to hug your lips during application:

PANDORA’S Lips Lip Gloss in Maple Syrup is a soft baby pink:

 photo PandoraLips2IMG_3978.jpg

PANDORA’S Lips Lip gloss in Maple Syrup

PANDORA’S Lips Lip Glosses are really creamy with quite an opaque pigment which is why these pale shades kind of settle into lip lines a bit. But honestly, from far away, they look fine on. It’s not like you look like you’ve got crepey old lady lips-trust me. They are non-sticky in finish and I can detect no scent at all! They go on with a nice cushy feel too-really soft and moisturizing and don’t travel at all. Lasting time is a little less than 2 hours, but my lips are super dry and suck up moisture really fast, so they probably last longer than that if you have normal lips. I have NO idea what that’s like, so I’m quite jealous of you normal feeling lipped people!

I really like these PANDORA’S Makeup Lips Lip Glosses a lot! They are really nice and worth trying! There are 2 other lip gloss shades as well: Cardinal a deep red and Apple Orchard a bright pink. Check them all out at your local Rexall Drugs!

Do you like your lip glosses on the sheer side? or the more pigmented side?

Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013.jpg

Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013

The Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013 is a Limited Edition makeup collection that will give you a romantic heroine look. Not only are the colours gorgeous, but the packaging is super pretty! I love the intricate design on each product-it gives everything a festive look, hey? The other thing I am loving about this collection is that there’s some silver in it so YAY!!! For someone like me that can’t really wear golds, this makes me a happy makeup junkie!

The first product my eye was drawn to was the Yves Rocher Pearly Water($9.95 CDN):

 photo IMG_3372.jpg

Yves Rocher Pearly Water

Pearly Water will leave a transparent veil of sparkling silver wherever you want. Its watery
texture is cooling and feels great. It doesn’t dry tacky at all, and gives a subtle effect. I think it’s like liquid snow! So pretty!

There are two Limited-Edition Khol Duos($4.95 CDN) in the Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013 in the shades Stormy Blue/Peacock and Smokey Grey/Mandarine.

Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013
Kohl Duos Stormy Blue/Peacock and Smokey Grey/Mandarine

Smokey Grey/Mandarine is my favourite because believe it or not, I don’t have a shade like that peachy one in my vast eyeliner collection. And combined with the grey? AMAZING.

Two Limited Edition Eye Pencils($5.95 CDN) are also in the Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013 in the shades Ancient Mauve and Deep Charcoal:

 photo IMG_3384.jpg

They can be used as eyeshadows, or as kohl liners. I find them a bit on the sheer side, but my oily eyelids tend to sheer out most creamy eye pencils, and these are creamy! You have plenty of time to blend them out. Over a primer they last well too.

The Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013 has a silver Sparkling Lip Gloss, and a Sparkling Silver Eyeliner($4.95 CDN each):

Sparkling Silver Lip Gloss! LOVE it! I don’t have a silver lip gloss, and this one is nice! It’s really glossy, and you can’t feel the sparkles at all.

And last but not least, the Yves Rocher Folk Passion Collection Holiday 2013 has two Limited-Edition Lipsticks in the shades Dark Purple and Prussian Red($4.95 CDN):

My Favourite Elizabeth Arden Products.jpg

My Favourite Elizabeth Arden Products

Rebecca Restrepo, Elizabeth Arden’s Global Makeup Artist, has put together a compilation of Elizabeth Arden products that she insists every women must have. And some of her favourite products are mine as well, especially right now in winter!

PREVAGE Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30.jpg

PREVAGE Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30

There are five Elizabeth Arden products Rebecca Restrepo always has in her kit, and one of them is the PREVAGE Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30(160.00 CDN). It gives lightweight hydration and powerful SPF 30 protection and is a fixture in her own beauty routine. It also has Idebenone, a powerful antioxidant and effective environmental protectant. I’ve been using Prevage Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion SPF 30 for years now, and am never without it. I find that using it really makes a difference and helps prevent UV damage to my skin. And even in the winter, I still use it every day as the sun is still around when it’s snowy! You still need to protect yourself even though it may feel like you don’t need to! When I use Prevage Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion, my skin just looks better. It’s a fact! LOVE this product!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15.jpg

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15, Blush

For a moisturizing pop of sheer lip colour, Rebecca loves the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15($23 CDN). These lip tints are perfect for color and protection all year round, but in the winter they are a god send! I have the shade Blush, and it’s such a pretty soft rosy pink on my lips. I love lipstick, but when it’s cold like it is today(it’s -27C, but with the windchill it feels like -34C) I really want to protect my lips from the cold more than anything! If you’ve ever experienced winter-burned, windchilled lips then you know what I mean. HURTS for days and is really hard to heal. I love that this has the moisturizing and protective power of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. My lips look and feel good in the cold wind, which is exactly what I need right now.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup.jpg

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup Vanilla

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup($42 CDN) was reformulated earlier this year. It has a creamy texture that glides effortlessly over skin for a flawless, radiant finish. Infused with micronized diamond powder, it’s a light-reflecting foundation meaning that light bounces off your skin to diffuse and blur any imperfections. It doesn’t settle into pores either, like some cream foundations can(hello NARS Radiant Creamy Foundation). I don’t have to worry about using a silicone primer on my pores before using it and I LOVE that. I love the moisturizing formula that dries to an almost matte with a slight satin finish. You can customize the coverage by using a wet sponge to get sheer to medium coverage, or a dry sponge to get medium to full coverage. I love using a wet sponge, but love that if needed, I can use it dry to help cover any spots that need extra help. Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup feels comfortable and lasts all day long for me-a good 12 hours without budging! It comes in 12 shades and don’t you just love the new redesigned gold and silver compact that features the iconic Elizabeth Arden Red Door? So elegant! It’s a great foundation if you have drier skin like I do, and is a great winter time foundation that’s for sure!
Rebecca Restrepo’s Tip: “For a more opaque look apply with a dry sponge and for a slightly sheerer finish wet the sponge to thin out the texture.”

Swatchy Time! I was sent the shade Vanilla in the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup, and even though it swatches a bit dark for me on my arm, it blends into my face beautifully! For reference, I’m a MAC NC 20  at the moment.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup Vanilla, .jpg

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup Vanilla
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15 Blush

These three Elizabeth Arden products are all I need when it’s this cold out to help me look polished and feel confident when I leave the house. Ok, I did use mascara and an eyebrow pencil too, but that’s it! I even used the lip tint as a blush!

My Favourite Elizabeth Arden Products .jpg

Wearing Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup Vanilla
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15 Blush

This has been my go-to look lately and it’s fast and easy. Nobody does polished and pretty makeup like Elizabeth Arden does!

Here are what every woman needs in her Elizabeth Arden makeup bag according to Rebecca Restrepo:
– A soothing powder: Ceramide Skin Smoothing Loose Powder
– A good foundation: Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup
– A correcting and highlighting concealer: Flawless Finish Maximum Coverage Concealer
– A pop of comfortable lip color: Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick
– The perfect blush: Ceramide Cream Blush
– A strong, smudgeable liner: Beautiful Color Smoky Eyes Pencil

I know what items are on my must-try list now! How about you? And here’s a video of Rebecca in action:

What are some of  YOUR favourite Elizabeth Arden products, especially in the winter? I know a lot of people can’t be without the Eight Hour Cream-it’s SUCH a great beauty multi-tasker!
