Blush Week!! my beauty version of Shark Week for the blush obsessed blush fiends ends today with blushes that I don’t care for.

If there’s one thing you probably have learned about me during Blush Week!! it’s that I like my blushes pigmented. I don’t like having to pile on colour and blend and pile on some more and blend…I’m a busy blush fiend. Who has time for that?

So, I can’t stand most of MAC’s Beauty Powders(not the ones from the Venomous Villains collections though-those are great!). What the heck are Beauty Powders even for? There’s so little pigment in them-are they meant to be a highlight of some sorts? Maybe. An all over face powder? I guess. I don’t know. Granted, some are better than others-but a lot of them…suck.

Here’s one I have from The Heatherette Collection a few years ago called Alpha Girl:

It took about 6 or 7 swipes to get that swatch on my arm to show up. Now, my daughter is about the shade of my arm, about an NC 10-if they did a 5, she’d probably be that. She’s really pale. Ghost-like.  I used to be that pale too as you can see by my arm, but am now an NW15. Still pale, but not pale enough for this to show up without breaking a sweat. Marky likes using these as a blush because it’s hard to overdo it on her pale skin.

I have a love/hate relationship with MAC Mineralize Blush called Dainty.

MAC Dainty

MAC Dainty is a great colour-a yellow based pink with gold in it. It looks really nice on the cheeks-a very girly, flushed look. It’s not super pigmented either, but just enough. I like the look of MAC Dainty indoors, but under fluorescent lighting and in the sun? SPARKLES.

MAC Mineralize Blush Dainty in Sun

I tried to get the sparkles to show up-can you see them? I can. Every time I wear it, when my friend who loves it wears it, and when my daughter who loves it wears it. MAC Dainty is a bit too Cullen for me sometimes.

NARS Multiple in Orgasm-HATE it.

NARS Multiple in Orgasm

It doesn’t look like it’s so bad in the swatch picture, but it’s a shiny, metallic sparkly mess on my cheeks. Plus it doesn’t last at all. I always see NARS the Multiple in Orgasm being mentioned in magazines as a summer staple, but for who? Not this blush fiend I tell you.

Those are three blushes that just don’t impress me much.  Got any I need to be warned about? Us blush fiends need to look out for each other ya’ know! 😉

Look likes this fish got a hold of some bad blush, or he needs some help with application. 🙂 He is cute though!

That’s it for Blush Week!!!
I hope you’ve enjoyed Blush Week!! as much as I have and found it informative and helpful. I hope you found a few good blushes to try out and maybe I’ve turned some of you into fellow blush fiends.

Blushingly Yours, Tracy XO

Blush Week!! my beauty version of Shark Week, but for the blush obsessed blush fiends out there continues today with my favourite cream blushes.

I love cream blushes. They can give such a natural, dewy flush that most powder blushes desperately to recreate.
Cream blush is great if you have dry skin, or if you have more mature skin because it really does become part of your skin and does not settle in any fine lines. There are cream blushes out there that are good for oily skin too. I prefer using a dense flat top brush like the Sonia Kashuk Flat Blusher Brush to press cream blush colour into my cheeks. I find that’s the best application for making cream blush last all day.
My Favourite Cream Blushes
My favourite cream blushes pictured are(starting from the left) are:
Becca Lip and Cheek Creme in Petal
Clarins Instant Blush Magic colour(upper middle)
MAC Just A Pinch Gel Blush(lower middle)
Stila Convertible Color- this one is Lillium
NARS Penny Lane–I couldn’t include this in the group shot-I’ve actually hit pan on this baby(can you believe it?), so there’s not much left really to show you!
NARS Penny Lane, MAC Just A Pinch, Becca Creme in Petal, Clarins Instant Blush Magic, Stila Convertible Color in Lillium

NARS Penny Lane is a great neutral dusty rosy colour. It’s not very pigmented, so if you want the colour to really show up you do have to build it up. I like to use this as a creamy base colour for powder blushes and it works wonderfully like that. It really helps make powder blush last longer. The texture is very creamy and turns to a slight powdery finish.

MAC Just A Pinch Gel Blush came out with the Rose Romance Collection, but it has popped up at CCOs in the States because that’s where I got my backup. 🙂 It’s a sheer, red/pink flush that is so natural-just like when someone pinches your cheeks. It can also be used on your lips and gives them that I just ate a popsicle look. I wish MAC would make more of these in a variety of colours.

Becca Lip & Cheek Creme in Petal I purchased from Beyond The Rack last year. It’s hard to find Becca Cosmetics in Canada-some salons carry the Aussie Line and you can find it online at eBeauty.ca , which makes this blush fiend happy. These are pricey little cream blushes, but crazy super pigmented and will last a long time. That swatch is just a tiny, tiny bit dabbed on my arm. They are really creamy, blend easily and really last all day. I want to get the colour Tuberose next. Becca Lip & Cheek Creme can also be used on the lips.

Clarins Instant Blush Magic Color is very unique. It’s more of a lip balm in texture, and when you apply, it magically becomes a beautiful pinky glow. You need very little of it also, and you have to use your fingers with this one. It can stay quite dewy looking if you like, but if you really blend it out it’s not so bad. I prefer it dewey looking. Clarins Instant Blush Magic Color gives a very youthful pinky flush and lasts all day, and also can be used on the lips too.

Stila Convertible Color was my first venture into cream blushes. Lillium, a rose colour is my favourite colour. The texture is a real cream-heavier in comparison to the others and does stay creamy feeling once applied and because of that gives a really nice, healthy glow. It a bit harder to blend because of the texture, but works well with my Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Blush Brush.  Very pigmented and lasts well on my dry skin. Stila Convertible Colors are another one that works well on the lips.

Do you love Cream Blushes? Or do you avoid them?

Look at this crazy looking pink fish. I think it’s great and I would name him Elvis, because that’s who it resembles, no?

One more day of Blush Week!! left. I’m kind of sad about that. 🙁

Blush Week!! my beauty version of Shark Week for the blush obsessed blush fiends out there like me, continues with blush favourites from various companies.

Laura Mercier Second Skin Satin Cheek Color in Lush Nectarine looks small but it’s powerful!

Laura Mercier Lush Nectarine
Laura Mercier Second Skin Satin Cheek Color in Lush Nectarine is a true peach colour-no pink at all. It is very pigmented which I like, so a light hand is required for this peachy beauty. Laura Mercier Second Skin Satin Cheek Color in Lush Nectarine gives a beautiful glow and lasts all day.
Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Blush in Parasol is a great pigmented blush, that is close in colour to MAC Wonder Woman Mighty Aphrodite.
Tarina Tarantine Dollskin Blush in Parasol

Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Blush in Parasol is a bright shimmery coral pink that applies beautifully, has a velvety smooth finish and lasts all day.

Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Blush in Parasol is one of my favourite blushes and if you’ve never tried anything from this line, I recommend this be it.
The best matte blushes around are made by Illamasqua. Why we don’t have this brand available in Canada is beyond me! I thought we were pretty cool with the Brits us Canadians, no? Illamasqua, we NEED you in Canada.
I bought Illamasqua Hussy on a vacation trip to Seattle last year. It’s a gorgeous matte coral pink that is super pigmented. REALLY super-pigmented.

Illamasqua Powder Blush in Hussy
Again, you have to use a light hand and a stipple/skunk brush with Illamasqua Hussy, but the finely milled matte powder blends seamlessy and melts into the skin. Illamasqua Hussy looks incredibly natural and lasts all day.
By far, Illamasqua Hussy is the best blush I own. Yup-I said it. Best Blush ever!
Stay tuned for more Blush Week!! as I share my least favourite blushes, plus a little surprise for you all tomorrow!
Anybody remember Rainbow Fish? Loved reading that story to my daughter when she was little. He was one pretty fish!

Blush Week!! my beauty version of Shark Week fro the blush obsessed blush fiends like me continues today with my favourite MAC blushes.

My first favourite MAC blush is a mineralize blush called Warm Soul.

MAC Mineralize Warm Soul came out last year I think? MAC Mineralize Blushes are baked and look shimmery in the pan, but some of them, like Warm Soul give you a nice glow sans glitter.

Warm Soul

MAC Mineralize Blush Warm Soul

MAC Mineralize Warm Soul is a rosy brown with some peach undertones. I’ve swatched very heavily for you, but it actually comes off on the cheeks as a slightly tanned pinky neutral glow that goes with every eye look. Love it!

My second favourite MAC Blush is Springsheen which is a Sheertome Shimmer Blush. This is actually a blush that is pretty close to MAC Stereo Rose when swatched. Stereo Rose is more coral.

MAC Springsheen
MAC Stereo Rose MSF,  MAC Springsheen

MAC Springsheen is a beautiful pinky peachy glowy blush and has some subtle gold shimmer(sound familiar?). The shimmer isn’t too much-MAC Springsheen gives a nice dewey look to my cheeks. Springsheen is pretty pigmented for a Sheertone Blush, blends easily and lasts all day.

MAC Dollymix is another Sheertone Blush by MAC.  The hot candy pink blush looks scary in the pan but fear not!

MAC Dollymix Blush

MAC Dollymix is another pretty pigmented sheertone blush that’s sliky smooth and bulidable so it’s not so scary to work with. It’s a very pretty, blue based pink blush which as you know, I don’t normally go for, but MAC Dollymix is really pretty on the cheeks.  It’s the perfect pop of pink and it suits a variety of skin tones too.
