So, here’s a thing you kind of take for granted if you work: Dental Insurance. When you retire? You have to PAY for those little perks out of your own pocket. And yeah, I know, you do pay for them when you are employed, but your employer also kicks in some money(usually quite a bit more than you do) for your benefits. When you retire and want to keep those take-for-granted benefits? HUGE STICKER SHOCK my friends. HUGE. As you know, my hubby Terry retired last year. And that means you are looking at a family that no longer has dental insurance. We decided that when it was time to go to the dentist, we’d just swallow the cost out of our own pocket from now on. But we live in Alberta, the land of non-regulated dental fees which means we pay the highest prices in Canada for dental work. #IHateGovernmentDeregulation

What am I trying to say? Well, taking care of our teeth has become a top health priority around here now! We need to lengthen the time between dental visits, because LORDY, getting your teeth cleaned and checked out costs a minimum of $450! And that’s why I was more than happy to give the new Crest Pro-Health HD a try.

Crest Pro-Health HD  is the biggest breakthrough in toothpaste since fluoride, because the two-step process isolates key ingredients so that they can perform at their peak. I don’t know about you, but those toothpastes that claim they do 50 things barely do ONE thing. I like this idea of having a toothpaste that does ONE specific thing, and then another toothpaste that does something else. No more watering down of ingredients! It’s a a whole new oral health experience I’ll tell ya!

Two steps means that there are TWO PRODUCTS you use in this new healthy teeth habit. And yes, this two step process is worth it I promise!

Step One is an anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis paste which helps improve gum health by treating gingivitis. Go ahead and brush with Step One. It’s kind of cool and feels like you just got your teeth cleaned by the dental hygienist without the huge price tag. It’s a bit of a grainier toothpaste and not unpleasant at all in taste or feel.

You brush for 1 minute with Step 1, then you spit but DO NOT RINSE your mouth. It’s weird I know, but trust me, if I can do it YOU can too.

Step Two is a whitening gel. Load up your brush with the clear gel, which is formulated to whiten and polish teeth without ANY kind of pain at all. I do find it a tad drying for my mouth, but any kind of whitening tooth product does that to me. Plus, my mouth is always dry because of medications I take for Multiple Sclerosis, so you don’t have to worry so much about it. Terry doesn’t notice anything. What I love is that this is teeth whitening that’s painless, so YAY Crest! Thank you!

You brush for one minute with Step 2 and you can rinse afterwards this time! And rinse well I say because you’ve been brushing your teeth for a full two minutes for once in your life.  😛

To be honest, I was kind of hesitant to test out Crest Pro-Health HD when it showed up. Step One I was ok with, but Step Two scared me because my teeth are so sensitive and don’t like whitening products. Whitening strips hurt my teeth a lot so I don’t partake in that easy way to whiten your teeth whenever you like. But, I finally worked up the nerve and gave the two-step system a try and I LIKE IT A LOT. I noticed a difference in the look and feel of my teeth after just two days of using the Crest Pro-Health HD. Wahoo!! And my teeth are looking and feeling so much healthier now. I’ve got Terry and Marky (who is home from college for the summer) using the system and they love it as well.

A family that brushes with Crest Pro-Health HD keeps the dental bills away! You can find your new healthy oral routine of Crest Pro-Health HD at most retailers across Canada right now.

Oh, and P.S this is NOT a toothpaste for kids to use at all! Only adults please and thank you!

Are you lucky enough to have great dental insurance? Are you pretty diligent about your oral health too?

Last week I attended my very first blogger event! I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and there are never any events here in Edmonton so it was so exciting for Avène to actually come here!

It was so much fun meeting other bloggers from Edmonton including one of my faves Rae @theNotice, the lovely France who represents Avène, and the team from Langton PR. I cold have stayed and chatted for hours and hours haha! And the pear cocktail was pretty good too!

There’s some exciting new products coming from Avène soon, so stay tuned for that!

Remember when I picked up the new Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation and Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer at the last Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Redemption Event in Calgary?

I picked up the shade Light Warm in both products. Swatchy Time!

The Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation is very pigmented and creamy smooth for a powder foundation. You can apparently use it wet as well, but I haven’t tried that yet because even though I really like the way it feels and covers, I have one MAJOR problem with it…maybe you can tell what that is from this picture:

See the ORANGE on the sponge? It looks good for about an hour or so on me, but then it oxidizes and looks quite orange on me. It’s weird because that rarely happens to me with foundations.

It’s a shame as I do like the powder! But I’m not prepared to go and get another shade to try, because I fear the same will just happen. At least I didn’t pay for it! The Urban Decay Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is a keeper though. It’s creamy, has great coverage, blends seamlessly. It reminds me of my favourite concealer, the MAC Prolongwear, except for one thing: it creases under the eyes. It’s great for the face though and covers redness and blemishes quite well.

I bought some new Zumba sneakers, or runners as we call them here in Canada…sneakers are for sneaking around in 😛 you run in runners 😛

I had such a problem finding a pair that were flexible enough for dance, yet in my big-foot size 11s! Nike finally came to the rescue and I love them.

I’m trying to eat healthier too and eat more fruit! I really am awful when it comes to eating fruit but it’s just SO expensive right now in Canada. And I’m not a huge fan of apples. So when I see something that I do like on sale, I pick it up. These strawberries hit the sale spot!

I got a new hat! You all know I have a pretty great knit hat/toque collection, but I need to start beefing up my warm weather hat collection! I got this one at Old Navy on sale, and I hope I can find another one in California next week!

Yup, that’s right-we’re going back to visit Marky. It’s Spring Break for her, so we thought we’d go down and visit, feed her, restock her supplies and visit Disneyland. For some reason it feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her, so I’m excited to see her if only for a few hours. She’s so busy trying to finish her first all by herself 90 sec animation, so I don’t think we’ll be able to see a lot of her. But it’ll be my dose of Marky that I need, so yes! I’ll be happy with what I get.

And that was my week! How was yours? It’s going to be REALLY warm and spring like here this weekend! Highs in the double digits! I sure hope that means Spring is here to stay!

Have you ever had a foundation oxidize on you? Does it happen a lot? This is probably only the second foundation I’ve ever had do that.
