Thanks for listening to my last rant….I’m a ranty blogger, what can I say? And when something bothers me, it bothers me A LOT, and I need to talk about it…errr…write about it haha. But, like a few of you told me-I shouldn’t care what anybody else is doing. And… you are right. I’m gonna be more like Dumbledore in these comics I love:
From now on, I’m just gonna ignore the stupid stuff, and just stick to doing what I do best: being Tracy. I love all of you A LOT. I’ve even gotten emails from some of you, which has made me feel SO MUCH BETTER, so thank you everyone. I’m just gonna put some blinders on, and move forward and stop worrying about other people’s integrity. I don’t know why I have in the past, but I guess it’s because I’m descended from Kozaks and we can’t stand any kind of bullshit. I honestly should have been a cop or a lawyer-that would have appeased my injustice hating soul!
Like I said in my last post, I’ve been thinking a lot more about life. When you are my age, you kind of start to wonder how much time you’ve got left hanging around this solar system. And when you start thinking like that, you start wondering about what you WANT to do with that time you got left. This pretty much sums up my #lifegoals right now:
These are the things I want more of in my life! And these are the things I’m going to write more about on Beauty Reflections. And still beauty, because heck that’s still something I love. I’ve revamped my header menu which now reflects the topics that Beauty Reflections will be about from now on. Makeup and skincare is still up there, because hello, that’s my hobby still and I do like finding products that actually work and sharing them with you all. But there will be changes oh yes indeedy.
Like I’ve said before, makeup don’t pay the bills, yo. I don’t ‘live’ off of Beauty Reflections, but I do have bills to pay for the blog(self-hosted blogging isn’t cheap and everything is in US dollars so add 30 cents onto every dollar for me). So I hope you understand that occasionally I might do a sponsored post, but I always clearly mark them that way. And I usually only do them for things that I like anyways, so they’re never something that I wouldn’t WANT to write about and share anyways. I have a sponsored post coming up in a couple of weeks about a new toothpaste that I signed up for. It’s a toothpaste hey, what’s not to like right? 😛 And I have one more Brandbacker post to write(they don’t pay me-I just get a sample) but it’s for the brand Farmacy, and I love their products and use quite a few of them already in my skincare routine. But, in all honesty, that sponsored toothpaste post will be the last one you’ll see for a long time, as I’ve opted out of most ‘sponsored’ networks now, except for ShopBop. That one I will keep for the time being(although I think it’s going to disappear soon because I don’t really give them much traffic) as it helps me keep Marky clothed in expensive California. Christ, jeans are freakin’ expensive! AND LASTLY, as for PR products, I don’t get a lot these days, so I’ll continue to work with those brands that still love me and aren’t afraid of honest reviews, which is like FIVE BRANDS I think….HAHAHAHA. #kickedtothecurb #thatswhatIgetForSpeakingMyMind #IDontCare #MyLastFuckIsGiven
So cheers my friends! And if I’ve disappointed you with this direction-hey-it’s not like there aren’t 3 million other beauty blogs that churn out review after review out there in the interents ya’ know. Go on, find another, it isn’t all that hard I promise. I just can’t keep up anymore with the beauty blogging newness, so this won’t be the blog to look for reviews on most of the new products that keep coming out. #beinghonestfeelsGOOD
But, if you’re interested in watching this ranty, wine-lovin’, zumba’ dancing, mountain loving crazy lady age as gracefully and as beautifully as she can while reflecting on life, makeup, sunsets and just having fun? Then you’ve found it:
Listen up, I got a question here? Would anybody miss you if you disappeared? Well your life is the song that you sing, And the whole wide world is listening! Well the answer to the question is, You were created, your life is a gift and The lights are shining on you today- You got something to say!
~Matthew West, Something to Say
I’ve been SO so tired this past week… sorry I haven’t posted much. Hiking in Jasper was awesome believe me…
Maligne Canyon, Jasper AB
Maligne Canyon, Jasper AB
Maligne Canyon, Jasper AB
Maligne Canyon, Jasper AB
Maligne Canyon, Jasper AB
Post hike face-just sunscreen and no blush-that redness is evidence of the hike haha!
But man, it kicked my chubby BUTT. Well, maybe not so much my chubby butt, because I’m pretty fit for a fat girl, thank you very much 😛 …But my MS legs dudes…they are my NEMESIS. I HATE THEM. They get tired really easily when I overdo it. I’ve been recovering from the Maligne Canyon Hike since I got back and today is the first day I feel half ok again. HALF mind you…yet I made my ass go to Zumba this AM because I was tired of being TIRED. It’s just a NO LIKEY for Tracy.
I sometimes forget I have Multiple Sclerosis?!!! Yeah I know that’s weird…but it’s true. Most days I am fine. FINE. And then I try to do things like that hike and my body says HELLOOO mother-effer…forGOT you have a disease HEYYyyyy?
It’s been 15 Years since I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. FIFTEEN YEARS YOU GUYS. My actual diagnosis day was September 15, 2000. And back then it was a probable diagnosis…you had to have another relapse to PROVE you had the disease to get on the expensive meds that were available then. And well, you all know how I HATE to disappoint hahaha… :P…and so in October I had another Multiple Sclerosis attack..which changed my diagnosis to DEFINITE Multiple Sclerosis and I was OK’d to go on a medicine of my choice. Yeah, you get to CHOOSE when the medicine costs a lot of money. It’s like they fight for your insurance money-kind of hilarious to be honest. November 1, 2000 a nurse came over to my house to teach me how to inject myself every day with the medicine I chose to take -for the rest of my life.
FIFTEEN YEARS AGO…..WOW.
I truly forgot about how long I’ve been dealing with Multiple Sclerosis, until the Nurse that comes along with my expensive meds checked in on me a couple of weeks ago, and reminded me of that little tidbit. Yeah, when you pay $1800/month for meds you get a personal nurse that emails you and asks you if you need anything…go figure, hey? 😛
And you know what? It was a good thing she emailed me and reminded me of my anniversary. Because I’m truly a lucky ducky compared to a lot of others with MS. #NoCaneYet #15YearsStrong She called me an inspiration? And wanted to know what kept me going strong, taking my meds all these years?!
And, I had to think about that to be honest. It wasn’t an easy answer for me actually, because I don’t take my meds regularly-which is supposed to be every day-anymore. Hey, 15 years of needles…HURTS….I’m sorry…I just can’t every day lately..but I try 5/7, well maybe more like 4/7 …3/7 ???!! days to prick myself and grin and bear it. It’s a sub-cutaneous injection and I don’t use my arms anymore…haven’t for about 7 years now. When you cry because of the pain your meds cause, you tend to SKIP that hurty part…no more arms dudes. I also happen to have the curse of lipoatrophy-a rare side effect from the meds and needles. It means just what you think it means-the subQ layers of fat get attacked and eaten away…which would be ok if it was nice and even of a fat attack. It’d be like free liposuctions HAHAHA! Instead, I’m left with holes and dents in my thighs and abdomen. It’s not pretty, that’s for sure. So when people complain about stretch marks and crap? I’m sorry, you have NO. IDEA. I don’t wear shorts anymore. I can’t…I have HUGE dents in my thighs that look…well, scary. 🙁
But, I don’t care? Because those dents in my body are what partly keeps me walking. It’s worth the defect! #fairtrade
And so? I think I need to TALK about it. Talk about Multiple Sclerosis. About my disease. And my mindset. Because honestly? I think that has had a BIG part in how I’ve managed my disease.
When I was diagnosed with MS, I didn’t see it as a SENTENCE as to what my life was going to become. My neurologist, bless her, was quite matter of the fact when telling me what MIGHT happen…like waking up one morning not being able to see..or walk. HA. Being blind one AM in my future was slightly disconcerting though, I’m not gonna lie. But, she also said she had patients well into their 70s that were still walking and doing fine?
AND RIGHT THERE AND THEN I DECIDED THAT WAS GONNA BE ME TOO.
As soon as I was diagnosed, I went to a Support Group held by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada to learn about the monster, because dang it-I hate surprises. I wanted to KNOW. EVERYTHING. What could and couldn’t happen to me. And it was weird? Because most of the others there had been diagnosed 5-10 years ago and FINALLY decided to learn something about MS. They all told me how they admired me for going so soon…it was a month after finding out for me…and hitting Multiple Sclerosis head on. Most of them ignored it at first, until it was too late for them.
I don’t follow any “diet” for MS…I mean c’mon seriously…how can what I eat contribute to the demylenation of my myelin sheath?
Like screw off…don’t come on here and tell me how your 5th aunt removed beat MS by eating turnips every day. I’ll find you and kick you in the nards I SWEAR. It’s BULL. SHITE.
What’s done it for me? A few things I think, and exercise is one. Even though I’m not as slim as I was pre-diagnosis, I believe it helps me a lot. Why? It helps with STRESS. And I swear, stress is a HUGE and major problem not just for Multiple Sclerosis, but also for other diseases as well. I remember my neurologist telling me that keeping stress levels low was beneficial to my disease progression, and I took that to heart. I really did. And exercise helps keep me calm. I can’t do anything too strenuous these days, but even just a nice walk is enough to make me feel so much better and helps me destress.
Also, I don’t wear my disease on my shoulder…I don’t play the Multiple Sclerosis Card every chance I get. Believe me, it’s tempting some days. But like I said, I don’t think of myself as being sick, so it just doesn’t come to mind most days unless I’m feeling extra exhausted. And even then, I don’t use my disease as an excuse? EVER.
I BUCK UP…like my Zumba BFF Annette says I do. Yup. BUCK. UP.
I could sit around and feel sorry for myself and believe me, this week I did, LORDY. And this morning in bed when the alarm went off, I really did not want to get up to go to Zumba. But, I did. Because why NOT. I had no reason to not go. Yeah, legs were still felling tired, but so what. I know they’ll never feel all PERFECT. So, what else was my excuse to not go? I couldn’t think of anything else. So, I bucked up, got up, and went. And it was FUN. And I feel better for going.
And the last thing that helps me deal… is LAUGHING. Finding the funny in my day. I’m a weird bird! You all know it, don’t you? 😉 Marky knows it and has told me so-nothing like your kid calling you WEIRD hahaha! She’s been with me in the car when I drive and road rage sets in…and then…I’ll say something like F$$K BUS..yeah, I’ve said that…like a noun…and when I do??!! I LAUGH SO HARD AT MYSELF, and so does everyone else around me. Laughing is another way to deal with stress. And I love laughing. A lot!
I wish I could say there was some magic pill, some magic turnip(not sure why I’m on about turnips in this post, I do love eating them haha) that has helped me stay well all these 15 years of living with MS. But, I can’t tell you that’s the case.
What I do know? Is that it’s all about how your mind sees your cross in life. We all have our crosses. And not one is worth more than another’s? I mean what’s hard for you, is hard for YOU. BUT, it’s how you deal with setbacks…that’s the key. You can either melt into a puddle and give up…or, BUCK. UP.
It’s your choice. And, if I can do it? You can too. Here’s to another 15 years of walking without a cane! ‘Cause oh YEAH, that’s what I’mma gonna do. You can count on it. 😀 ‘Cause I got SOMETHING TO SAY. 😀 😀
HEYYyyyyy How ya DOIN’? I know, I’ve been a bad blogger. But you see, I was in California all last week and just didn’t have the time, or the will to blog! So forgive me! But I’m here to to share my trip and some other stuffs too!
Before I left, I decided to clean out my computer room-a bit HAHA. I found this, but didn’t have the heart to throw it out!
GAWWWWD. I miss those days! The whole waiting for the delivery! And sitting all day and all night reading until you finished the book! Sigh… I miss it SO MUCH.
I got some new Nikes again haha! I love Zumba! And I needed another pair to rotate with the other ones I got. And man, runners(not SNEAKERS LOL) are so bright and happy now! If I wore a colour like these in the early 80s, it would have been social suicide dudes. Thank the lord you don’t have to deal with THAT.
Yup. I hit VIB Rouge with Sephora….which isn’t hard when you buy for two people. I buy things for Marky too, and mostly we buy skincare to be honest. And I don’t know if you’ve noticed but most skincare items are starting to cost about $100 each easy so…yeah. It’s not hard to get VIB Rouge if you are like me. I’ll say this…I LOVE the Le Marc Le Rouge Lipsticks…more on that in another post!
I got the most AMAZING gift from my Aveeno friends: the NEW Daily Moisturizing Lotion Sheer Hydration Lotion which is AMAZING. It feels so GOOD. SO LIGHT. And they sent me a gift certificate to Bliss Spas! You know, as a Beauty Blogger I’ve NEVER had a pedicure. Like ever. It scares me haha! But I’m thinking of getting a facial! Or maybe some yoga! Not sure yet! But I’m excited and grateful nonetheless.
Before we left for California, Marky’s College CalARTS had their Portfolio Day, where students showcase their work and companies come to the school to look and see and hire and offer internships! It’s pretty cool!
Disney Features and Dreamworks Products were very interested in Marky’s work and called her back to talk to her! And since then she’s also had emails from Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to apply for internships! SO excited for her! Although, that means she won’t come home this summer. 🙁 But hey, such is life…it’s all good! And I’m so PROUD of her.
She gave me her Beymax Pin Disney Features gave her–I will treasure it FOREVER. It represents everything I hoped would happened for her-proof she’s doing well at college and proof that someday, Marky will be a force to be reckoned with in the Animation world!
Then it was time for us to leave for California to visit my Marky!
This Dermalogica Climate Control Lip Treatment was awesome on the plane ride. Kept my lips comfy and hydrated the whole trip!
Found some Laneige skincare at Target WTF. See, this is one of many reasons they failed in Canada! Why wasn’t this brand sold here? This Sleep Mask is pretty awesome! Glad to have found it! I don’t notice the comforting scent it apparently has, but it works really well!
I love California. And all the fresh produce. The hotel we stay at when visiting Marky is a Marriot Residence Inn, and the staff remembers us-heck I give them HUGS now lol! And so, we get a special bowl of fresh berries when we come down…I’m telling you…HUGS is money. Hugs will get you all kinds of love! HUG more often. You’ll thank me!
Friday Chat: California, Disneyland and Marc Jacobs Oh My
Every morning, these guys cross your path in California…we don’t see many of them in dry Alberta. They fascinate me…like wow. So cool…but I like worms too so…sorry haha. I should have studied Entomology or Biology more at University instead of Chemistry methinks…. 😛
Bobbi Brown Peachy purchases
I’m kinda’ having a Bobbi Brown Moment for some reason! I never really got into the brand, but lately as I’ve gotten older, the brand is starting to appeal to me for some strange reason. I picked up a few peachy items in California, and so far I’m loving them! Especially the Pastel Peach Powder Blush-it looks so pale in the pan, but WOW pigmentation! And it glows too! Blush Fiend LOVE.
DISNEYLAND. You know I had to visit! These orange flowers on some of the trees there were so pretty! I wish they’d grow here! WHAT ARE THEY!!!
The desserts OH MY. Like WHY.
BEYMAX APPLES. Sorry, too cute to eat for me!
This Rose Raspberry Mickey Macaron was so GOOD. You could taste the rose, and the raspberries were so FRESH. YUMMM.
It’s a good thing we walked an average of almost 30K steps every day at Disneyland!
And that’s just counting when I had my phone in my hand or pocket. Dumb Apple. The app only counts steps that way. I’m pretty sure we logged well over 30K the days we were at the park…my body could FEEL it…getting out of bed was an experience I’ll tell ya! SO hard… like I was hit by a truck or something. But once I got going all was well!
Oh HEY… you know the tequilas they sell in California Adventure Park sure help with any kind of pain you’re dealing with dude…that’s why they sell them there I’m positive…liquid MEDICATION. And they ain’t watered down at all nosiree…you can taste tequila for sure!
There’s some cool Maleficent art at the parks still, even though the movie came out quite awhile ago…I’m late to the party, but MAN…I really love the movie a lot! I think it was a great live version movie of the cartoon! Kinda’ obsessed with the makeup looks in it, which is why I bought that Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Fresh Watermelon because that’s what the makeup artist used to get that amazing peach flush on Aurora’s cheeks! I’ve heard the Cinderella movie is really good too! Excited to see it now for sure! Might even go see it at theatre for once lol!
Phew! I think that’s enough haha! Loads of pics and thoughts! It’s hard to get back in the blogging groove when you’ve been gone on holidays! Posts like this help me get the blogging mojo back. I have loads of stuff to show you in upcoming posts so stay tuned!
And Bobbi Brown! It’s kinda of amazing me at the moment! Have you suddenly been intrigued by a brand you’ve ignored?
Last week I attended my very first blogger event! I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and there are never any events here in Edmonton so it was so exciting for Avène to actually come here!
It was so much fun meeting other bloggers from Edmonton including one of my faves Rae @theNotice, the lovely France who represents Avène, and the team from Langton PR. I cold have stayed and chatted for hours and hours haha! And the pear cocktail was pretty good too!
There’s some exciting new products coming from Avène soon, so stay tuned for that!
Remember when I picked up the new Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation and Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer at the last Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Redemption Event in Calgary?
Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation
I picked up the shade Light Warm in both products. Swatchy Time!
Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation and Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Light Warm
The Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation is very pigmented and creamy smooth for a powder foundation. You can apparently use it wet as well, but I haven’t tried that yet because even though I really like the way it feels and covers, I have one MAJOR problem with it…maybe you can tell what that is from this picture:
Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation
See the ORANGE on the sponge? It looks good for about an hour or so on me, but then it oxidizes and looks quite orange on me. It’s weird because that rarely happens to me with foundations.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation
It’s a shame as I do like the powder! But I’m not prepared to go and get another shade to try, because I fear the same will just happen. At least I didn’t pay for it! The Urban Decay Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is a keeper though. It’s creamy, has great coverage, blends seamlessly. It reminds me of my favourite concealer, the MAC Prolongwear, except for one thing: it creases under the eyes. It’s great for the face though and covers redness and blemishes quite well.
I bought some new Zumba sneakers, or runners as we call them here in Canada…sneakers are for sneaking around in 😛 you run in runners 😛
I had such a problem finding a pair that were flexible enough for dance, yet in my big-foot size 11s! Nike finally came to the rescue and I love them.
I’m trying to eat healthier too and eat more fruit! I really am awful when it comes to eating fruit but it’s just SO expensive right now in Canada. And I’m not a huge fan of apples. So when I see something that I do like on sale, I pick it up. These strawberries hit the sale spot!
I got a new hat! You all know I have a pretty great knit hat/toque collection, but I need to start beefing up my warm weather hat collection! I got this one at Old Navy on sale, and I hope I can find another one in California next week!
Yup, that’s right-we’re going back to visit Marky. It’s Spring Break for her, so we thought we’d go down and visit, feed her, restock her supplies and visit Disneyland. For some reason it feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her, so I’m excited to see her if only for a few hours. She’s so busy trying to finish her first all by herself 90 sec animation, so I don’t think we’ll be able to see a lot of her. But it’ll be my dose of Marky that I need, so yes! I’ll be happy with what I get.
And that was my week! How was yours? It’s going to be REALLY warm and spring like here this weekend! Highs in the double digits! I sure hope that means Spring is here to stay!
Have you ever had a foundation oxidize on you? Does it happen a lot? This is probably only the second foundation I’ve ever had do that.
I think every Friday I’m just going to try to do a chat post. TRY. Pictures from Instagram, Stuff, Things I’ve been thinking…you know…my mind, my life…about products that I can’t write a whole blog post about… and because I want to have FUN. Fun is good, right? 😛 And I’ve decided I like doing these round-up posts, so yup. That’s the deal from now on. Expect more!
My neighbourhood FINALLY got a Recreational Centre! Oh so needed! And my hubby and I have been going regularly like I’ve mentioned before.
One of my favourite workouts lately involves Kettlebells, and the Kettlebell F.I.T. App is awesome. There’s different levels, all kinds of workouts with kettle bells-I love it. Try them! It’s a great heart-pumping workout!
Racinne LadyI Massaging Rejuvenation System
Got this really cool Racinne LadyI Massaging Rejuvenation System to test out, and as nice as those face attachments look, see that pumice stone attachment? WOW. My feet are in need of some serious love, so I’m super excited to test this baby out! I don’t know if I’ve ever told you all, but my feet get blisters ALL. THE. TIME. And no matter what. I hate my feet. They betray me every visit to Disneyland. Needless to say, I have LOADS of bad skin things on my feet that need to be detached. Crossing my fingers this thing works!
EEEP! Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm 20th Anniversary Edition! I use this lip balm every night, and the coloured cap makes it super cute.
Got sent these CoLab Mini Dry Shampoos to test out. I guess they’re by Youtuber Ruth Crilley from A Model Recommends which mean nothing to me LOL. I don’t really know who or what, but eh-they’re dry shampoos?? They smell nice?? This whole dry shampoo business is beyond my old lady ways though-WHEN did it become so wrong to wash our hair? WHY? Don’t really get it…In the 80s if you didn’t wash your hair you put it in a ponytail???? I give up 😀 😀 These are nice? Light feeling and don’t leave any gunk on your roots like some other dry shampoos do. Worth a try if you use dry shampoos regularly!
I love TeeFury. It’s kind of an addiction actually. Hey-I live in T-shirts though, so… 😛 but when I saw THIS one, I ordered one for Terry, Marky and me! Yeah, that’s right-we have an official FAMILY T-SHIRT now:
And if you’ve never seen The IT Crowd, watch it! Moss is my hero.
Got a new lipstick!
MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus
This is MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus! Yeah, I’m not a fan of her, but I am a fan of the MAC VIVA GLAM lipsticks. 100% of the profits go towards the MAC Aids Foundation, so I never feel guilty about buying one of these babies. MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus is a bright pink lipstick that’s fun and I think would suit everyone! I do wish MAC would pick better spokespersons for Viva Glam. Like hello? How about Laverne Cox? I think the people at MAC are kinda’ dumb…or just slow to How The World Turns… 😛 MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus is smooth, really pigmented, a bit glossy for a MAC Amplified and really comfy to wear. Plus it leaves a nice stain on the lips as it wears off EVENLY. I say get one!
I picked up a few things from Pixi Beauty at Target Canada last week.
Figured it’d be best to get them now, before the CRAZY times happen when they liquidate. I’m not sure what they’ll be liquidating, as there really isn’t that much left on the shelves already? They haven’t stocked up in MONTHS from what I see…this exit was in the works around Halloween I say. It’s too bad Target never REALLY came here…it was never the same as down south, and I know since I’m down south a lot. I am really going to miss their seasonal decor section though…especially the Halloween one. 🙁 That H2O SkinTint is freakin’ GREAT stuff…might have to pick up some more! If you want a review, just lemme know, I’d be happy to oblige.
Oh, how I love flavoured salts lately! You need so little to give quite the flavour enhancement! This is a merlot salt from Evoolution in Southgate. SO good with ground beef! They have quite a few flavours, including a spicy GHOST PEPPER SALT…need to get that one next for sure!
That’s pretty much all that’s been going on around here lately! What’s been up with you? Got a new lipstick like MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus you love? Or a new recipe you’ve tried and love! Do share what’s on your mind! Let’s CHAT. 😀
