Can I say that I really miss Arrested Development? And how happy I am that it’s coming back for a short season on Netflix before the long awaited movie that us fans have been demanding finally comes out? I AM SO EXCITED.

My new Laura Mercier Book Of Nudes  that I got for Christmas is not for Never Nudes though.

Cracks me up every time!

Anyways, back to Laura Mercier Book Of Nudes:

Laura Mericer’s Book Of Nudes contains 8 eyeshadows, one cake liner, one cream bronzer, one cream blush and a cream highlighter in a convenient palette that’s just perfect for throwing in your purse, and taking with you on vacations as well.

The shadows swatched in order are:
Buff (matte finish/ soft neutral cream)
Tiger’s Eye (sequin finish/ sparkling chocolate brown)
Sandstone (sateen finish/ pale peachy pink)
Bamboo (luster finish/ golden brown shimmer)
Baroque (sateen finish/ warm terracotta)
Fresco (matte finish/ neutral beige brown)
Granite (matte finish/ smoky gray),
Cocoa Brown (sateen finish/ shimmering brown)

Swatched in order: Tightline Cake Liner in Ground Espresso, Bronzer Veil , Veil (matte rose peach), and Glow Veil (radiant neutral beige shimmer).

This is a great little palette if you are light-skinned, however it is rather on the warm side. Even the grey shade is rather warm. I wish it had some cooler browns in there as well to round things out, but I still feel it works for me. The eyeshadows are a bit sheer, about the same as the Guerlain palette. They build up in intensity nicely EXCEPT for Tiger’s eye. That shadow is a total fail. It’s really hard and near impossible to get any of it onto your brush. I had to actually scratch mine to get product onto my brush. You have to really layer it to get any kind of colour payoff. It’s a shame, because it is so pretty of a colour. The cake liner is fantastic and I love using it to tightline my upper lash line and water line. Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Liners are one of my favourite liners out there, and one you should consider trying it out if you have limited lid space like I do.

The cream blush and bronzer are very easy to blend and use. They have a bit of an oily feel to them which I don’t mind because I have dry cheeks, but if you have oily cheeks you might want to set them with a powder.

This is a nice palette to have if you are a neutral girl at heart like my twin Tracy@My Best Beauty Buys. And lately, I’ve been spending time on the neutral side as well and am enjoying it I must say.

It’s a great no-brainer palette to have when you want a quick, easy every day nude look with the versatility to darken up your look.

I don’t think it’s available online @Sephora anymore because I think it was a LE item, but I’ve still seen a few of them in stores if you’re interested.

Seems like a few of the makeup companies are coming out with nude collections paired with bright lips. MAC’s Naturally collection comes out this week as well.

What do you think?
Are you guys feeling the nudes? That sounds so wrong, hey? My daughter calls me Tobias(Arrested Development) because I somehow can make everything sound inappropriate. What can I say-it’s a gift.

I’m not really a huge fan of makeup primers. I have tried a few, but I find that primers don’t really do much in making my foundation last longer.  I’d rather put sunscreen on as my last step before my foundation. Plus a lot of primers are silicone based, and my skin doesn’t really like a lot of silicone on it. I can stand a bit around my nose, but all over makes me just break out instantly.
So, I don’t use them.

Which is why you can understand when I was sent the Tarina Tarantino Pearl Glow Primer in Pearl Nude last month, I winced and let it sit there-until this week.

That’s because I found out that this Tarina Tarantino Pearl Glow Primer in Pearl Nude has no silicone in it!

Tarina Tarantino Pearl Glow Primer in Pearl Nude is a glowy, light beige shade that contains pearl powder to add a subtle glow that brightens your skin under foundation. It’s very pretty actually.

As far as making my foundation last longer, most foundations last a good 8 hours on my skin anyways, so it’s hard to tell. I could never tell if any primer made a difference really. But I do like the subtle glow this gives! You can also use this over top your foundation to highlight if you want.

It adds a pretty glow without making you look like a member of The Cullen Family, because Lord forbid- I’d have to stake you then.
No sparkly vampires allowed here, thank you very much.

I’ve been really impressed with everything I’ve tried from The Tarina Tarantino collection so far. It’s got some really great products that deliver! You MUST try something out soon! Her blushes are a great place to start if you are a blush fiend! You can find Tarina Tarantino products
at Sephora of course.

Do you use a makeup primer? What’s your favourite one?

And thanks to Olgie@ Makeup and Things By Olgie Pogie for showing me this t-shirt that I must get:

Disclamer: I was sent this product to review by PR/Company. Love it or leave it, but my review and opinions are my own thoughts and words, thank you very much.

Yup, it’s that time of year again! Time to make some resolutions, or as I prefer to call them changes.

I have not always been big on change, but lately I am embracing change and thinking of it as more of an opportunity to grow. To get better. And who doesn’t want to be better?

1. The first step in my growth is to have a Blush Ban for the next 6 months. I know, it’s sad-I mean I am a blush fiend at heart. But I have so many pretties that sit unloved, so the fiend has to be put in handcuffs. I think it will be so much fun rediscovering my blush collection again.
So no more purchased blushes by me. If you see a new blush review, it’s one that I’ve purchased last year (and there’s a couple coming up!) Now, if I am sent one to review by a PR or given one as a gift, then that won’t count of course. It’s not polite to give back blush bought as a gift-first rule of the blush fiend if ya’ didn’t know.
By the way, my Birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks-anyone? haha -I can try, right? 🙂

2. Finally get serious about losing weight and get me healthy! Oh, I’ve tried a little here and there over the past year, but truthfully my heart wasn’t quite into it. But this time, I’ve finally had enough. I’ve gained a lot of weight since my MS diagnosis 11 years ago. It’s time for it to go. First step will be getting a treadmill so I can run again. I so enjoyed running over the summer and miss it a lot. Next step will be joining Weight Watcher’s. I was successful before on it, and I know I can be again. Also-take my iron pills! My severe anemia has given me terrible dark circles under my eyes. That sounds so vain, but it looks so horrible and no amount of concealer can cover them up. I have trouble with iron pills as they hurt my tummy, but I must forge on and build new blood cells! Also, take my Vitamins too, especially vitamin D which my neurologist insists  that I take 2000-3000 IU every day. I seem to be deficient in it as well. Sigh.

Also, I was sent some femMED Weight Management supplements to try out. It’s a supplement that  helps support healthy weight loss. femMED Weight Management has a unique blend of soluble fibres: glucomannan, inulin along with carob and psyllium fibre that work together to increase the feeling of fullness, improve blood glucose control, cholesterol levels and improve bowel function. Sign me up! Sounds like exactly what I need! I’ll let you know how they work out.

3. Eat more fruits and veggies! I love my veggies, but it’s fruit I have a problem with. I used to love fruit when I was younger, but have gotten out of the habit of eating it. I will try to eat fruit every day from now on. This is my present to you, my dear colon. 🙂

4. Read more books! Not just blogs. 🙂 First one on my Kindle is Room by Emma Donoghue.

5. Declutter and organize the house. Time to get rid of stuff I don’t need anymore and donate it to someone who does.

6. Be more mindful of my makeup purchases and try to only buy new things if they are unique and unlike anything I already have.

7. Rediscover how much I love cooking. I used to cook and bake quite a bit, read recipe magazines, and loved experimenting with food. Lately I just kind of stick to making the same old boring things. I want to have fun cooking again, especially since I want to lose weight. There’s nothing worse than eating boring food while dieting. Blech.

8. Keep in touch more often with my family members-the sane ones at least!

9. Give out more hugs. Hugs are the best!

10. Laugh every day. It’s good for the soul!

I think that’s it! These are the changes I’m committing myself to. Every now and again I’ll fill you in on my progress, so I hope you won’t mind too much.

Do you try to make changes every year? What are some of yours?

           It’s 2012!! Happy New Year!!

I’d like to wish all of you a Happy 2012!! All the best!

But now, I also want to remind you that this is DOOMSDAY YEAR. This is supposed to be it folks, remember? December 21, 2012 is THE END. Supposedly there’s some kind of catastrophe coming our way. I’m leaning towards a Zombie Apocalypse- at least that’s what I’m hoping, if it’s even kosher to hope for something like that, which it probably isn’t. I know, I am a sick person.

But I think I can survive that. I have pretty good aim.

Now, all will be fine if I can stay here in my house, but what if evacuation is a must?

My ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE MAKEUP BAG will be here ready to grab.

Now, I was going to put my long wearing foundations in there. I didn’t want to have to pack any brushes, and liquid foundation would seem the way to go. But, then I started thinking about removal. At some point, there might not be any way to take my makeup off, at least not really well. And some of those long wearing foundations can feel-eeeeeeeeek, if not removed properly, ya’ know?

So, it’s my mineral foundation that goes in the bag, and a small retractable kabuki brush.

This is my Laura Mercier Mineral Foundation in Tender Rose. I like this a lot, but I can’t wear it if it gets too warm, as the bismyth oxychloride will make me itch and break out. So, I’ll also bring along 2 more of my favourite powder foundations:

My MAC MSF Natural, and my Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation that I recently picked up in Seattle. The Physician’s Formula is a light translucent powder that doesn’t give a lot of coverage, but it has an SPF 50 which I love, and will need!

Next up, is blush. To have to leave behind my blush collection is a scary thought, but if need be I’m strong enough to do it. I’d love to take some of my awesome powder ones, but no more brushes are allowed. So, it’s creams and stains that go into the Zombie Apocalypse Makeup Bag.

These are the most longest wearing cheek cream/stains I have. The YSL Créme de Blush in #01, is amazing and will last forever. Then there’s my trusty Becca Beach Tints, which are long wearing and won’t clog my pores at all.

Next is eyes. No powder shadows. There will be no time for all the blending needed, plus again no brushes. This means creams or pencils, but there’s only a few that last all day on my oily eyelids.

The Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencils, the Annabelle Smoothies, my Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill and my Ellis Faas all last on my eyelids without the need for a primer. None of them need a brush, plus they can all be used as an eyeliner. Yes, this means I need a sharpener, but I can also use a knife if need be. 😉 I’d have put the Milani 24 HR Liquid Eyeliner in the bag, but I need a brush to apply it neatly, so it lost out.

Next, mascara and definitely the CoverGirl 24HR LashBlast which I HATE goes in the bag.

Yes, I’m taking a mascara I hate, but this bugger stays put like nothing I’ve encountered and since I won’t worry about having to take it off and ripping out my eyelashes, it’ll be perfect.

Lips was hard. For sure a good lip balm like Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm will come along as it has SPF 25 in it.

But what about colour? Surely, there might be some point where I might want a bit of colour on my lips, but colour that lasts and isn’t drying. That’s where these trump out any other lip product I have:

These are Lise Watier Waterproof Lip Crayons(pencils) and if you’ve never tried them then you MUST. They are awesome and I want them all. The have wonderful pigmentation, stay put all day, last through any kind of meal, and do not feel drying at all.

And I think that’s about it! My Zombie Apocalypse Makeup Bag is packed and ready to go!

I sure hope I won’t need it! But if need be, I’ll be looking good whilst aiming for the head. 🙂

What’s going in YOUR Zombie Apocalypse Makeup Bag? Tell me about any long wearing products you’ve tried that I should consider sticking in there!

Ha! I get to use my blog title in a post title. It’s the little things that amuse me. 😉

Declaring something as my favourite product is hard for me to do, which is why I don’t do it very often.

But, at the end of the year it’s time to think back and reflect on what products we really, really loved. For me this means products that I adore so much that I can’t imagine being without them.

My Best Products of 2011!

1. Dior Aurora Bronzer

HOLY GRAIL BRONZER. Probably the only item that I will award HG status too. I have never been able to use a powder bronzer to get a natural looking tan before I picked up this one. It’s so amazing and I wish I had picked up 10 of them. I sure hope Dior brings it back, or makes something even more awesome if that’s even possible.

  2. Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Eyeshadows

Ok, this is probably another HG item for me. It’s one of the few eyeshadows I can wear without a primer and won’t crease on me. So easy to use, so beautiful-I need more! I have 2 shades, this one and champagne #8 and would love to own them all. Maybe someday!

3. Prive Hair Products

These shampoos and styling products are amazing and work so well for my hair. I’m going to need to order more!

4. NARS Yachiyo Blush Brush

Ok, maybe this one isn’t fair since I just got it as a Christmas gift, but seriously this blush brush has changed my life. Really pigmented blushes that I love but were so hard to use are now no match for my NARS Yachiyo. I no longer have to worry about looking like a clown!

  4. KORRES Quercitin & Oak Anti-ageing Eye Cream

This is a fabulous eye cream. I can’t believe what a difference this has made in such a short time. I wake up with my under eyes feeling moisturized and refreshed looking. I love this stuff.

5. Burberry Russet Blush

Photobucket

If I had to pick one blush as my favourite blush, then it would be my Burberry Russet Blush. This blush is amazing and I always go back to using it no matter what other pretties have seduced me. It just sculpts your cheeks into supermodel cheekbones, blends beautifully and goes with everything.

6.  BareMinerals READY™ Eyeshadows

This eyeshadow formula is AMAZING. I need to get more of them! They blend so beautifully and are so pigmented. LOVE.

That’s pretty much it! My Best Products of 2011 and the products I will ALWAYS use no matter what, or at least until they run out which will happen to my Dior Aurora Bronzer eventually. I will cry when that happens. Seriously. No joke.

2011 has been a great, yet sad year for me. Sad, because I lost my dad this year and miss him dearly. My mother passed away 15 years ago, so it’s really weird to not have parents any more. Oddly enough I now feel like a grown up. I don’t like that feeling.

On the other hand, it’s been a great year because I have made some beautiful friendships and have had some memorable experiences! Some great moments of 2011 have been:

– my London, Paris, Rome trip was the trip of a lifetime!
– felt so proud watching my daughter graduate from High School
– quit my stressful job
-bought a brand new car

– being in the Lipstick Bandits and getting to know all those lipstick fiends- I heart every one of you!

– doing the Cartoon Saturdays EOTD with Larie@Eye Heart It

– had loads of fun doing Halloween Makeup with Vonnie@Socialite Dreams

-got to meet and hug Dani@Call It Beauty, Ashley@Makeup Kismet,
Larie@Eye Hear It and Monika@Raocaille Writes

– found my long lost Big Sis Eugenia@ Ommorphia Beauty Bar

-found another true blush fiend that has a collection that rivals my own in Paris B @My Women’s Stuff

-had the most EPIC conversation about LOTR, PEZ and Orlando Bloom with @MakeupMorsels and Xiao@Messy Wands

-making friends all over the world through blogging!

And a big Thank You to all of you who read my little blog. I appreciate it so very much and look forward to improving Beauty Reflections in 2012!
