And not just swatches- but pics of them on MY FACE. Because I think you SHOULD see lipsticks ON a blogger’s face-not just arm swatches, or just pretty pics of just the lipsticks themselves. THAT’S CALLED ACTUAL BLOGGING FOR THE READERS. Hey, I get it-maybe some bloggers don’t have time…sure, I’m busy too? And it’s a pain in the ass to take full face pics. I get it. And to be honest-I’m getting older and older by the minute and it’s getting nerve-racking to post pics of my aging face here. But I think it’s important to show what a lipstick looks like on my face! I really do! If all I and other readers ever see are just swatches on arms, or just close-ups of your lips(which I used to do too, but if you’ve noticed I don’t anymore because honestly, it really doesn’t tell a reader that much) or just pretty pics of JUST the lipstick? It makes readers wonder if you really do wear and use the makeup! Just sayin’, and being my big-ole’ big mouth can’t keep quiet Tracy as usual  😛 #minirant

MANDATORY-If-You-Call-Yourself-A-Beauty Blogger-Arm-Swatches, right Paris? 😀

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick C502, C105, C603, M401, C211, C506

So, C means satin finish, and M means matte. No sheers in the Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipsticks, which is ok by me. The satin finishes are super creamy, super comfy, and mildly hydrating even. You already know from yesterday’s post how I feel about the mattes, which is just plain LOVE. The pigment is out of this world on both finishes, and lasting power is pretty awesome-easily a between meals lasting time.

An easy to wear peachy nude! A lip-liner is needed if you have pretty pigmented lips like mine, which I didn’t use here, but when I wear this one you better believe I do.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick C211

This shade for me is a MLLB shade-it’s pretty close to my natural lip shade and I love it. An every-day, no fuss, wear everywhere shade.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M401

Gorgeous bright, matte red that everyone needs in their lipstick wardrobe! Love it lots!

Gorgeous plum berry shade that’s very on trend right now. I love it, but I think I’d prefer this kind of a shade to be a matte, as it would be less of a fuss to deal with while wearing. But, that’s me and my personal preference speaking there. And then again, that sheen (。•̀ᴗ-)✧  on this shade is GORGEOUS.

Make Up For Ever calls this one Taupe-Violet, but I kind of think it’s more of a greyed-violet. Not an easy to wear shade, especially when you’re almost 50! Again, a lip liner or a concealer should be used to block out your lip pigment when you wear a shade like this. I do appreciate this shade is a cream though, as a matte might have made it settle into lip lines. Although, I do think that this brilliant new formula could have handled this greyed-violet in a matte.

This shade is called Midnight Blue by Icona Pop and it’s a LE shade, so if it’s something that speaks to you, better get it quick!

I used to love shades like this! And I still do, but this is a little too warm for my skin tone, and in all honesty, it should have been a matte. It’s too fussy for my liking, and I prefer blotting it down if I venture to wear this shade out. I haven’t yet, as all I’ve done lately is go to zumba or shopping for Christmas stuff. But if I had a party to go to? I’d try and rock it. Why not? It’s only makeup, and it’s meant to be FUN. This shade with icy silvery eyes and some gorgeous navy too would look BEAUTIFUL.

There you go! So, any of these shades appeal to you? I love the formula, and think getting one in a shade that’s perfect for you is worth the $27 CAD.

And, do you agree? Do you like seeing lipsticks on a face as well?

  • How awesome does C502 look on you? You look like a frickin’ teenager, you vampire you! For me personally I’d probably go with C211.

    • Hahaha thanks! C506 the plum would look SO GOOD ON YOU lady! You look killer in vampy plums!

  • Eva

I think m401 makes you look 10 years younger. It really suits you

  • Lesley Goldberg

You have inspired me to try a red again.

    • YAY! Do it! Get one! They make you look younger!

      • Lesley Goldberg

Key is application. The corners of my mouth droop down and red can accentuate that.

      • Yes I agree-I’m starting to notice a tiny bit of drooping actually as well.

  • rachlovespenguins

Nice little wardrobe you’ve got there! I was already intrigued, but if you like the formula enough to have all these I will definitely need to check it out.
Ooooh I wonder if 401 would pull pink on me. Most reds do but that looks worth a swatch next time I’m in the store. 211 is very much like all my other most loved lipsticks, so it will probably eventually find a home with me, lol. And 506 is very saucy minx! Now I need to find a party!!!
I have a ColourPop shade very similar to the grey violet. Definitely not the easiest to wear. But I bought it for fun (and besides, Halloween ideas are always brewing here) so fun I shall have!

    • Thanks Rachel! Yeah, it’s pretty straight up red so give it a try! It’s a great one. And yes, that berry shade is so perfect for a party. I want to look at the matte one today-I think I’m gonna go get it. And yeah, those get shades are so hard to wear, but you can make them work!

  • Angela

Give me faces!!! Yep, means more to me if I see it on someone 😉 Thanks for taking one (or six) for the team LOL. I’ve given up completely on nudes. They look like DEATH on me. C211 looks both promising and absolutely smashing on you as did C506 and THAT RED. WOW

  • They all look great on you! I could not pull off that taupe violet!

  • I think you’re totally rocking the blue and violet shades- but yeah, not the easiest to wear! I have the wine shade (506) and really like it, especially for Fall! And yeah, I try to include swatches and full face photos when it comes to lipsticks- definitely the most helpful!

    • Haha, thanks Jennifer! And yes, you are one of the few that actually do full face photos ALL the time and that’s why I always read your blog!

      • Aww, thanks! It means so much that you notice that (as I really try to make my reviews as thorough and helpful as possible) and that you continue to stop by <3

  • Eyeshadow Addict

Yes! I much prefer seeing lipstick ON. Especially given I have very pigmented lips too. Colours look totally different on me.

  • Why/ How you always so cute??!

  • I agree unconventional shades play better in matte formulations, but I dig the violet color on you! <3

    • Thanks! I don’t mind it too much, but yeah-weird shades just play better in mattes. That blue is ridiculously hard to wear-blue all over my teeth is NOT cute haha!

  • I’d love the blue lipstick just for the heck of it!

  • Lily

    Dude, C506 is EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
Yes, I prefer seeing the whole face as well. When I first started looking for swatches online, it was ok with just arm swatches. Then, hey, lip swatches are even better and now, I’m so fussy, I want to see it on the face. LOL! And to take it a step further, I look for the blogger’s foundation shade as well, just to match our skin tone. Lipsticks look different on different skin tones after all. HAHAHAHA!
As a blogger though, as much as I appreciate a full faced picture, I really don’t mind lip swatches. Heck, those who don’t post any swatches at all bug me.

  • Rebekah Clarke

C502 and C506!! Love love love! I rarely do full face shots for lipstick because I’m lazy and only apply foundation around my mouth lol, but I love seeing both arm and lip swatches!

  • Eeps! I’m so late to this post but YES, SWATCHES! How does anyone call themselves a legit blogger if they don’t post swatches is beyond me. Swatches on arms are a minimum. I sometimes don’t even do face swatches but you look amazing in these photos! Not getting older at all, I swear! <3
