Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet-For Those Days You Wanna Sparkle

You all know I’m a huge Vichy Fan. But I don’t know, lately? I’m kind of becoming a little disillusioned with the brand. Especially with this new product, Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet.

Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet ($29.95)

Vichy says this is “the first body treatment with an ultra-refreshing texture to keep skin feeling fresh and energetic from morning until evening.”  Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet has active ingredients like Gingko Biloba and Hyaluronic Acid to leave skin feeling hydrated, fresh and firm for 24 hours. There’s also some oils like macadamia, blackcurrant seed, sunflower seed, jojoba, and more. Check the list of ingredients to see for yourself:

And while Vichy is always paraben free, I do think they need to stop using other ingredients like dimethicone or silicones, as a lot of us really try to avoid them and may be allergic even. And also, denatured alcohol is pretty high up in that list of ingredients-like #3! Personally, I’ve been trying to avoid products that have it in their first 5 ingredients. There’s two sides to every argument, but as someone that had to work with alcohols in labs all the time, I can say that I do not enjoy what they do to skin-that’s why I’d wear gloves people. And that’s why Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet has that “refreshing” feeling they’re talking about. That’s the alcohol evaporating and drying out your skin. And if you have dry skin like me….yeah, you see where I’m going with this.

It’s a light peachy shade, with apparently a sorbet scent. To me, it smells like floral slightly BOOZY peach because I can detect the alcohol smell. I’m Ukrainian…my nose can pick up that scent as fast as the scent of perogies and sour cream. Also, see the SPARKLES??!! This stuff is so full of oxides and mica-it’s like you took some pyrite and rubbed it all over your skin. I guess it’s fine for the summer though? When you’re going out? But I shower at night, so why would I want to cover myself in sparkles before bed? No thanks man. If you are a morning shower person, then by all means sparkle up dude. You glow.

So, what I’m trying to say is that I’m afraid Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet won’t be added to my list of Vichy Loves.

I’ve been trying to be more careful and pay more attention to ingredients lately, especially what I put on my body. As I age, a lot of things make me really ITCHY and DRY, and since I’ve been avoiding things that are high in denatured alcohol, I’ve noticed a difference in my itch factor. Have you become more mindful of ingredients lately too?

  • I like the idea of this, but I totally hate sparkly body lotions. I am absolutely becoming more aware of ingredients like denatured alcohol, and with that awareness comes the realization that there really aren’t many products I know of without it!

    • Yeah I’m not either as you can tell hahaha! This is why I’ve been going more green in my products.

  • Too bad about the alcohol, because there are also a ton of good things in there, but third in the list means way too much…
I kind of like body products with shimmer, yeah I have a girly side that I hide most of the time 🙂
And to answer your question, I’ve become extremely careful about what I put on my face, but I’m a lot less picky about what I lather on my body. Like essential oils: no way on my face except if very low down the ingredients list, but I don’t mind in body products. I might pay for that mistake one day!

    • Right? Like talk about ruining it!
I’ve been more picky about my face stuff as well, wearing more organic and aren products lately. I really have no need for long-wearing makeup in my life since I don’t work and so I’ve decided that when I do wear makeup, it should be good for my skin! I’ll be sharing some great green beauty I use soon.

  • Angela

Tracy!! Welcome back! I missed you and was happy to have a couple posts to catch up on here now that I’m back in my office (why work?). bummer on the Vichy product that fell flat. I’m at that awful point of the year where all my skincare products are running out at the exact same time (hello 2nd mortgage!!). I’m getting closer to ordering that Consonant sunscreen…but what do you think about the tint? You mentioned you’re super pale, as am I typically (GO EDMONTON!!) and yet you said you loved it so I’m very tempted….
And also: WOWZA on that Laura Mercier lippie on you. What an awesome color for you. I’ll keep it on the radar for when I’m back to working ‘full-time’. Bad time to be in the oil & gas industry 🙁

    • Hahaha thanks Angela!
It’s a slight tint, but nothing major. It works for me! If you’re looking for a great affordable sunscreen for face though, check out the Bioderma ones at Shoppers-they are AWESOME and you can get them on sale sometimes. I think the face one is SPF60+ something like that, and it never broke me out.
Poor you, I feel so sorry for everyone in Oil and Gas…hopefully things get better soon. HUGS.

  • I have a love-hate relationship with glitter and shimmer in body products… At first I’m all like YAAAAY SPARKLEZZZ ERRRMAHGERDDD but then I realize how annoying it is to leave glitter all over my clothes and sheets…

  • oh man, glitter. I can’t say I’m a fan except for when it’s super fine and in eyeshadow. Or is that shimmer? I hate having glitter all over my body because it’s so hard to get off and then it just rubs onto EVERYTHING!!!!

    • Yeah same! Shimmer haha! And right? I don’t get why companies think we want to be covered in glitter!

  • Wow I had no idea that it was the alcohol which caused the freshening effect though it makes perfect sense! I’ve gone off Vichy lately, not to do with the ingredients but because they are gradually making more and more ridiculous claims and I don’t find that the products deliver.

    • Yeah! That’s what does it! And yeah, I’m starting to agree with you about the ridiculous claims. I still love some of the products, but you know I’ve found some stuff that really DOES deliver.

  • k r i s t e n //

PEROGIES & SOUR CREAM!!! Tracy that line cracked me up!! You are hysterical.

  • Yeah, there is a place for shimmer, but I mean, then it should be advertised – like oils that are shimmery, they are usually advertised as SUPER FABULOUS SHIMMERY FAIRY DUST OIL. No one wants that in skincare that is sposed to be practical, etc., you know?
