Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

Hey, how YOU doin’?  😛  I hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday! Ours was nice and quiet-just the way we like it.

Everyone is putting up their faves lists, so I guess I should as well! To be honest, I don’t have a lot of makeup faves, but I will put that list together too. Soon. Maybe even tomorrow haha. But skincare has really been my beauty love of 2015, so, let’s talk about my Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015!

Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

Grab a cup of tea-this is going to take awhile.  😉

First let’s talk about my skin. I have aging skin (I will be turning 49 next month YIKES) that’s dry to normal, sensitive, and still breaks out occasionally-usually because of a product though not so much any hormonal breakouts anymore.

1. Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water

Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water

Love it. Can’t live without it. I know a lot of people say thermal waters do nothing for them, but for me this Avène one instantly calms down the redness in my skin. I use it after I cleanse, after I shower, after I Zumba, and even after a hot flash(which have mysteriously disappeared for now thank you, but I’m not holding my breath as I know they’ll probably be back). This is a travel size version, and I take it with me every time I go away as well. Oh, and it even refreshes my curly hair in the morning without drying it out like those sea salt sprays.

2. GlamGlow PowerCleanse Daily Dual Cleanser Mud & Oil To Foam

GlamGlow PowerCleanse Daily Dual Cleanser Mud & Oil To Foam

I’ve reviewed the GlamGlow PowerCleanse Daily Dual Cleanser Mud & Oil To Foam before, and it’s my fave cleanser of 2015 for sure. This is my third bottle since discovering it, and I use it pretty much every evening. It combines the power of mud and oil, PLUS it foams up! Double cleansing in ONE step! The mud and oil are in separate chambers and when combined in the hand, transform into an effective dual cleanse foaming lather. It takes off sunscreen and makeup really well and never leaves my skin feeling tight or stripped of moisture. I don’t think I can ever use just an oil cleanser again because I hate the thought of having to double cleanse. I have a new oil cleanser to review but I keep staring at it and dreading using it. SIGH. But I will. Eventually.

3. May Coop Raw Sauce Maple Acer Water

May Coop Raw Sauce Maple Acer Water-Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

I bought May Coop Raw Sauce Maple Acer Water on my last trip to California because BOY for some reason my skin got really parched feeling down there. I was going to get a new moisturizer, but this Essence water caught my eye because hello MAPLE. It’s a Canadian staple in our diets and if we can use it in skincare too, you bet our maple-leaf-loving-butts we will! Maple tree sap particles are almost the exact same size as our bodily fluids (even smaller than water), so this essence water just sinks right in quickly without any sticky tackiness at all. It’s like your skin took a long, cool drink of water, and it will glow and feel SO silky smooth and soft. I use a few drops of this after every cleanse, and it hydrates so well that I can just use this and run to Zumba class and my skin feels amazingly hydrated even in -18C weather like today. This is the first essence water that has actually worked for me, as any others pretty much did nothing for me. May Coop Raw Sauce is worth every penny and you need to try it!

4. Consonant Hydrextreme

Consonant Hydrextreme-Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

This serum was recommended to me by the lovely Michelle @BeautyEditor, and you can read her review of it right HERE. I was complaining of some dry patches on my cheeks, and she told me to pick this up because it would change my life. SHE’S RIGHT. That’s why she’s the Beauty Editor you guys! She knows her stuff! First off, this is a natural product with only two ingredients. I know everyone is on about hyaluronic acid and yeah dudes, I like that stuff too, but THIS stuff works BETTER, trust me. Cassia Angustifiola is a 100% natural skin conditioning agent that works BETTER than hylauronic acid. It also has glycerine to help prevent any water loss. It’s a thin, really watery liquid and you only need a few drops. I use about 4 and really concentrate them where I get flaky, like my cheeks, between my brows and the edges of my nose. The first time I used this overnight, I woke up the next day to flake-free skin. ONE NIGHT. Haven’t been without it since. The only con is that it’s expensive as heck, but like I said, you don’t need to use a lot for it to change your skin. Plus, Consonant will make it fresh for you if you order the 125ml version and WHO DOES THAT MY GOD??!! NOBODY. They ship EVERYWHERE too. Thanks so much Michelle for telling me about it! You are the BEST.

5. Deciem Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age Advanced Serum and C25 Stabilized Vitamin C Booster

Deciem Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age Advanced Serum and C25 Stabilized Vitamin C Booster

This is my 3rd bottle of Deciem Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age Serum and I have a back-up on hand because this is Holy Grail stuff for me. You can read my original review HERE. Nothing else has worked so well at keeping my skin smooth, wrinkles at bay, and hydrated. The Deciem Hylamide C25 Stabilized Vitamin C has a 25% concentration that stays stable. And I mean stable-no crusty, crystallizing, icky, yellow goop forming around the top like other Vitamin C serums that claim to be stable. Healthy, glowing skin that looks more even toned has been the result of using this puppy, and a lot of my spots have faded so YAY!  What I do is mix 4 drops of each of these two serums together and apply them together all over my face, neck, chest and back of my neck too. Who wants an old looking back neck?! Not me! They absorb quickly and leave no tacky feeling at all. They’ve never broken me out either so WAHOO. I do have the Whitening Serum, but something in that one breaks me out unfortunately. Makes me so SAD, as I was seeing results from it too. But, most products that lighten break me out, so I’m just gonna stick to Vitamin C from now on. Know your skin and obey its likes I say, and you’ll actually see results!

6. Consonant Ultra Moisturizing Face Cream For Dry Skin

Consonant Ultra Moisturizing Face Cream For Dry Skin I picked up to go along with the Hydrextreme and I’m so glad I did! It also contains that Cassia Angustifolia Seed Extract, plus Grape Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Vitamin E and Tamanu Oil to heals and sooth the driest of dry skins. There is nothing in it to irritate your skin, and no fragrances at all so if you have dry, sensitive skin like me, this stuff is amazing. Really moisturizes and never breaks me out either.

7. Live Clean Fresh Face Anti-Aging Recovery Balm

This is a drugstore GEM. Live Clean Fresh Face Anti-Aging Recovery Balm also has Cassia Angustfolia, Vitamin C , Chamomile, Milk Thistle, Mallow, Aloe and Buckthorn, and Orchid Extract to replenish the skin’s moisture barrier. It’s a bit thinner in texture compared to the Consonant one, but works just as well for like half the price. LOVE it. Is there a difference between the two? Well, the Consonant one is fragrance-free and much thicker but otherwise they work pretty much the same! I like them both!

8. Avène Sérénage Revitalizing Eye Balm

Avène Sérénage Revitalizing Eye Balm-Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

Avène Sérénage Revitalizing eye balm was the first EVER eye cream I actually really fell in love with, and you can read my review HERE. The texture is beautiful and smooth, yet rich and not greasy at all. It really moisturizes my under eye area, plus it makes everything brighter and lighter. I test others eye creams, but always come back to this one because for me it works the best.

9. Caudalie Resveratrol [Lift] Firming Serum

Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015.jpg

Caudalie Resveratrol [Lift] Firming Serum

I have a love/hate relationship with Caudalie Resveratrol [Lift] Firming Serum. I like how it smooths out my skin, making any wrinkles look less visible, but DANG this is the worst packaging I’ve ever encountered in all my beauty years. The dropper does not work at all. Like NADA. This is a thicker serum, so I don’t get why they thought a dropper was a good idea?! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again-Droppers for things that aren’t liquid DO NOT WORK. I only use this at night, because it’s a bit on the drying side for me since it resurfaces my skin gently. Lifting? I don’t know maybe? But it’s sure helps keep the number 11s between my eyes from looking any worse! But I will not repurchase this again until they fix the packaging. Such a shame.

10. Filorga Sleep Recover Anti-Fatigue Night Balm

Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015.jpg

Filorga Sleep Recover Anti-Fatigue Night Balm- Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

This is my favourite night cream ever made and I have Phil @MirrorReality to thank! It has silk-tree extract to reduce toxins and increase melatonin. Like Phil says, this night balm-and it is indeed a balm as it takes a few minutes to fully absorb into your skin- puts your skin to sleep faster so that the repair process can begin. Horse chestnut decongests your skin, so say good bye to puffy morning face. It’ll also stimulate collagen so you’ll wake up looking fresher and like you’ve slept for 1 week straight I swear. If you’re someone like me that has trouble sleeping, this night cream will make you look well-rested no matter what. Thanks Phil! In Canada you can find Filorga at Murale and The Shopping Channel too.

11. Erborian Korean Skin Therapy Bamboo Waterlock Mask

Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015.jpg

Erborian Korean Skin Therapy Bamboo Waterlock Mask- Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015

Erborian Korean Skin Therapy Bamboo Waterlock Mask is the best hydrating mask I’ve ever used. It’s a refreshing gel that you can use as a rinse-off mask, or as a leave-on treatment. Bamboo sap and fibers helps to lock in moisture and you immediately feel hydrated. The sap contains amino acids, to help hydrate the skin, while the fiber contains proteins and lipids to help maintain skin’s natural moisture. I’ll put it on after I shower and just let it sink in-why rinse it off? It also reduces visible signs of fatigue, so I love using this overnight. And the bamboo scent is so calming and green and lovely. Really one of the best masks I’ve ever tried!

12. AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel

 photo IMG_5047.jpg

AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel is probably the one skincare item I’ve used the longest in all my almost 49 years of life. It’s been over a year now since I’ve been using it, and it’s for sure another Holy Grail skincare product that I’ll never be without. You can read my original review HERE. No other skincare product has changed my skin so much. And yeah, I’ve tried the other fizzy powder exfoliators and I maintain that AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel is the best one out there. It’s so gentle, so creamy and just gently exfoliates my skin with no irritation whatsoever. Heck, if I’ve applied a bit too much I’ll take the extra and put it on my arms. SMOOOVE ARMS BABY. C’mon AmorePacific, when are you guys gonna come out with a body version, hmmmm??!! I hope soon!

Phew! There you go! My Beauty Reflections Skincare Faves of 2015!  These are the products that I’ve been using pretty much every day since I’ve gotten them, and most of them I’ve purchased on my own, or repurchased it they were sent to me as a sample. Skincare is my new addiction, and I will continue to try and tell you about any new loves I discover along the way in 2016!

What have been some of your fave skincare gems from 2015?

  • Amelia

Deciem is now one of my all time favourite skincare brands, the serum is so good. None of their products break me out, which is unheard of when I try new products :(. You always have kick butt recommendations.

    • I’m so glad you love them too! They are such a great company too. And thanks! I love hearing that haha!

  • Lily

Deciem is definitely on the top of my list! I’ve also been using quite a bit of Antipodes but my staples are still staples 🙂 Estee Lauder has some pretty good stuff I will always repurchase, and Clinique is creeping up the favourites ladder as well. Locally, I don’t get many choices, and lately, I’ve been receiving emails about skincare / makeup being confiscated at customs. Fuck that. I’ll just stick to local stuff for a while, until the craziness at customs settles down.

    • I wish I could use more EL, but the silicones in their stuff breaks me out. I have the sculpting/lifting one and LOVE it, but can’t use it all the time otherwise chin zits appear. Sigh.
Poor you guys with customs, that SUCKS.

  • On the list goes the raw sauce hehe, just for the heck of the name 😀
I’m glad to see you’re still getting good Filorga results, I still have a bottle of that at hand whenever it needs to be used. The Erborian mask was a surprise, I just started using it like 2 weeks ago and it’s proven to be light, not too gel, not too sticky, not too glob like.. and I wake up fresh. Gooood stuff ♥ Thanks for the rec, got it after I saw it on your insta hehe

    • I know right? The NAME. But shit, it’s good stuff. You’ll like it.
Thanks for the Filorga-I love that stuff and would never have known about it if it wasn’t for you. And HAHAHA-it’s good, right? It’s my new fave mask for sure.

  • I LOVE reading these skincare posts! Our skin types are different, but I do like seeing what works and what brands work for you since you try out EVERYTHING! and I’ve only tried a limited number of brands.

  • Efraín

Wow that’s an impressing list, right now I’m also thinking I’m in a skincare moment as I prefer to spend on it rather than makeup, now the problem is the lack of money but I’d do the best I can.

    • There are loads of affordable stuff out there too! I should do a post like that! I’ll look into it!

  • I actually need every single this on this list!! Without you I would not know what to do with my now skin-care obsessed self!

    • LOL Margo hahaha! I see you’ve joined me in the skincare is IT club hahaha! I buy lipstick still, and foundations and maybe a blush here or there, but skincare is pretty much my bread and butter these days!

  • Ooh, I love a good lengthy skin care post! Awesome that you found so many products you loved this year! I definitely need to try Filorga this year as well as add more Deciem products to my stash 🙂

  • Hahahaha, so I was going to tell you, we went to this candy store, and bought some chocolate maple creams. S was like, “IT’S LIKE CANADA IN MY MOUTH,” hahahaha, I was dying.

The Deciem Vitamin C one breaks me out, I think, so I’ve been using it super sparingly. The White RX one I can surprisingly use every other day and it’s ok. I haven’t been paying too much attention, but I think it definitely helps. I like their blue one – it’s almost gone – I think it helps the redness that I get along my jawline. I’ll have to think about which ones I want to reorder. I have the purple one, too.

I’ll have to check out that glamglow cleanser. I really don’t like their masks, but this cleanser doesn’t sound bad. I usually do oil before I pop in the shower (right now I am using Clinique’s, which is pretty nice and at a decent price point) and then cleanse again when I finish, but it’d be nice to consolidate that sometimes, haha!

Aww, that’s too bad-the white RX one breaks me out LOL! The blue is great too, but these two are the ones I’ll keep reordering in the future.
It’s a great cleanser! I really like it. Especially when I travel. And it’s great for after Zumba too. I think you’d like it!

  • Toya

So apparently you’ve gotten into my head Tracy, as I wrote down almost every single product you listed here LOL! I trust you! A lot of these sound amazing. I have the Deciem Vit C serum but haven’t opened it yet because I’ve been trying to finish up another Vit C product (the derma e one) – it’s lasted me AGES! Hopefully I have good success with that one too.

I’ve tried a few Consonant products before and really liked their cleanser – I see it’s sold at Sephora now too, good for them. I think I might grab the cleanser again (once I finish up my huge stash of cleansers) and the face cream you mentioned here sounds awesome – it also contains niacinamide which you know I’m all about, so woohoo! One day I might spring for the Hydrexteme, Michelle / Beauty Editor talks about it so much that the two of you combined just make me salivate at the thought of it (and then cry because GAH so expensive).

    • LOL Toya! How about SEND ME MONEY hahahaha -did that work? 😉 Love you! xo
Yeah it’s a nice Vitamin C! I like it. It’s taken a couple of months to see results, but my skin is more even for sure. I love LOVE Consonant! So simple, yet effective products. I’m so happy they’re at Sephora now! The brand almost makes me go all natural-almost. But I’m too much of a skincare junkie at the moment so, not yet!

  • I need that Live Clean stuff for winter!! Love reading your recommendations. I too love the AmorePacific Enzyme Peel and when I just had the baby, I rubbed it on my underarms and all over the middle of my belly to help fade the darkness that pregnancy brought on. Worked like a charm!!
