H&M Smoky Nudes Eye Colour Palette $12.99

H&M Smoky Nudes Eye Colour Palette

Cheaper than a lot of drugstore palettes, hey *cough*cough* L’oreal*cough  😛   Here’s the swatches, just click on the image to enlarge it:

They’re ok as far as eyeshadows go. Actually, they kind of remind me of Bobbi Brown eyeshadows in her palettes, not the singles. They feel soft, but are thin in texture and need to be built up a bit. But they do blend well. Makes for a nice easy day look, but you can get a nice evening, smoky eye look as well with that darker shade. That sparkly shade though has major fallout, so beware of that.

H&M True Matte Finishing Powder $12.99

The Beauty Department at H&M.jpg

H&M True Matte Finishing Powder

A velvet matte texture that feels light, yet controls shine in the T-zone. There is some kick up from your brush since it’s a soft texture, but it looks pretty natural on the skin.

H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blush Apricot $12.99

H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blush Apricot

Soft in texture as well-all the The Beauty Department at H&M products feel pretty soft when you swatch them. Looks matte in the swatch, but gives a lovely glow to the cheeks. This shade is pretty light in pigmentation. If you’re darker than NC20 in MAC, it probably won’t show up on you. It took quite a few layers to show up on my skin.

H&M Cream Lip Colour Candy Apple $12.99

H&M Cream Lip Colour Candy Apple

Creamy is right! Lots of pigment, and has a gorgeous shine to it. And this colour is a WOWZA shade for sure, although not sure why it’s called Candy Apple? I think it’s too orange to be called that. I do think a lip liner is needed to keep it from traveling. I’m getting old so creamy lip products like this need help in staying put and not ending up on my chin. 😛  They have matte lipsticks as well, so I think I’ll pick one up to try some day.

Swatchy Time!

Here’s what everything from The Beauty Department At H&M looks like on my face:

The Beauty Department At H&M

The Beauty Department At H&M products I’ve tried I would classify as really nice drugstore quality. But I think they’re better than a lot of drugstore makeup out there? I haven’t tried a lot of drugstore makeup lately though, so I guess I’m not a very good judge and shouldn’t say that. But drugstore makeup, especially eyeshadows and blushes rarely impress me. It’s not that I don’t like drugstore makeup, it’s just that up here in Canada, it’s SO GOSH DARN EXPENSIVE LATELY for meh products. And I’m sorry, I won’t pay more than $12.99 for anything drugstore, and I think a lot of beauty junkies are like me. H&M hit that price point right on the money, but their foundations do cost $14.99 so…. eh…getting a little pricey dicey there for me haha. H&M has LOADS of products-there’s eyeliners, concealers, glitter dust, brow stuffs, foundation, primers -it’s the full meal deal we’re talking about, not just some snake in the pantyhose makeup line.  😛  I’m pretty interested in checking out the shower gels and hair products. They’ve got a Beachy Keen Salt Water Cream for hair. A cream! Not a spray! I’m intrigued!

Here in Edmonton you can find The Beauty Department At H&M at West Edmonton Mall.

Have any of you tried anything from the line yet? What do you think? And what’s your opinion on drugstore makeup prices up here in Canada? Do you agree with me?

  • So impressed! Looks way better than what forever 21 came out with!

  • That lipstick is wowza!

And yeah, it’s not as bad here, but drugstore prices are still getting up there! I guess the quality has improved recently, too, but still – if it’s getting into MAC/Clinique prices, I might as well buy the department store stuff, because then I can try it on and get samples and a better return policy!

    • Agree!! I’m with you for sure. Drugstore is getting up there. But, for some people that’s all they can afford, so I see the need for it? Just keep it at an affordable price is my beef, and this line does do that.

  • I love that lipstick!! I am definitely intrigued by this line…and I agree..I refuse to pay almost $14 for a L’Oreal eyeshadow palette etc. Not cool.

  • rachlovespenguins

I’m not impressed with drugstore prices down here either. I’m with Larie. If I’m gonna pay a department store price then I’d rather just buy the department store merchandise and get the additional samples and returns policy.
Very intrigued by the salt water hair cream though!!! You should get it and let us know if it’s any good. (enable much, hey? hehe) I’m ALWAYS looking for hairstuffs that won’t break the bank!

    • Me too! But for some people, that’s ALL they CAN afford, ya know?
I wil get it soon! It’s something that calls to me!

  • That lipstick is BRIGHT! Really goes with your skintone and eyes. It’s great to see more affordable products on offer.

  • Thanks for the overview and for letting us know this is available in Edmonton! I’ll have to check it out next time I’m at WEM. 🙂

  • to me, this looks high schoolish. The packaging and colours remind me of the low cost crap I used to use in high school. That said, I don`t buy drug store makeup and prefer things with better pigment and higher quality (you use less and it looks better). I think I am in the time of my life where I can afford and enjoy nicer products. I would buy these for my girls, but for me, I think I would pass.

    • LOL let us know how you REALLY feel Sara hahahaha!
I’m the same as you, but remember, not everyone can afford the nicer stuff even later in life…I try to not judge so harshly because of that fact. 😉

  • Tasha

Oooh I love the colors in the Smoky Nudes Palette!

  • Lily

I think I’ve only been to H&M just once. Eeps!

  • You look like a bombshell in this picture! You shouldn’t avoid red lipsticks. Looks so GOOD!
I really like the color composition of the palette. And the whole lineup looks so much better than Forever21’s for example. I will check these out next time when I’m in their location. 🙂

    • LOL hahaha thanks Lena but far from it! 😉 I do like reds more lately for some reason!
It’s not a bad line at all!

  • Not bad! Not bad at all! Love that eye look you created.

  • The range as a whole looks really exciting! These products you got here look nice, not super pigmented but still very workable. I find their pricing policy weird though… $13 for that shadow palette sounds like a good deal, but the same price for that blush, hmm, not so much!

  • Definitely interested to check out this range- the lipsticks look especially promising!

  • Angela

A few days late to the party! Just had to comment that you look positively ethereal in this photo! Gorgeous!

  • Yaaaas all of this looks great on you! I’m staying away for now, but think I will check them out in the a few months’ time. I feel you on the expensive drugstore makeup — in NZ Maybelline et al are really pricey relatively — often I would just save up a little more and get MAC or some of the higher end brands, particular when it was on sale.
