Reasons Why I Like The Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity

You’ve probably heard all you’ve wanted to hear about the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes. But, I’m still gonna tell you why I like my Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity($67) because I have reasons. GOOD reasons. Aging beauty blogger reasons.

Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity

1. The design. I mean c’mon, it’s pretty striking, right? And yes I’ve heard people say BUT I DON’T LIKE HOW THE POWDERS WILL MIX WHEN I USE IT. PFFFFFFT I SAY. I have other palettes that have dividers and the powders kick up and gets in all of the shades too. Same, same. Get over it I say 😛  Nothing stays perfect looking, and when you’re my age you get over perfection really fast.

2. The shadows are super soft and smooth and blend like a dream. Yes, they kick up product. So what. A lot of mattes these days do. Again I can’t say it enough, be gentle with ALL of your products. Don’t go jamming your brushes with Hulk force into powders. Or creams for that matter. You’re just asking for trouble. I just gently touch my brush into the shade I want with Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity, and I barely get any kick up. And that gentle brush touch picks up MORE than enough pigment to work with. I like to build up my eyeshadow slowly, not WHAM BAM PIGMENT anymore. Aging eyes need gentle washes of colour you guys.

3. The shades in Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity are neutral heaven. And they allow for the most seamless of seamless blending I’ve experienced with eyeshadows. The only other shadows that are this seamless in blending that I’ve tried are Laura Mericer’s. I hear Viseart’s are something else, but I don’t wear eyeshadows enough these days to warrant getting another palette. And these mattes from Hourglass? Make the BEST crease shades, because to be honest that’s really all I like to wear these days. And these matte shades are pretty perfect for that.

4. I can wear Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity every day and not get tired of it. It goes with everything, and I can wear any of my lipsticks I want to.

5. They don’t crease or fade and last a LONG time over a primer. Looks pretty perfect still on my oily lids for longer than 12 hours easy.

6. And this is the most important reason for me: The shadows in Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity DO NOT emphasize or settle in my crow’s feet wrinkles. YES. I have wrinkles. I do. And they’re deeper on one eye too. You can see them in the above pics. I’m old, remember hahaha? And those wrinkles are another big reason why I don’t wear a lot of eyeshadows anymore. Most eyeshadows don’t blend well over the wrinkles PLUS they just emphasize them. But the shadows in Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Infinity glide over those deep wrinkles and still blend like a dream. And I don’t feel like they look worse, as they usually do when I wear other eyeshadows. And if your lids are getting crepey(mine aren’t yet thank goodness, but the time will come soon) these shadows would work beautifully still because they are so creamy.

I know. These are pretty pricey. And honestly, if you have a lot of eyeshadows all ready and are under the age of 40, you probably don’t need this. But if you are aging like I am, and have been having trouble with eyeshadows too, then I think you should try this one. It’s become a workhorse palette for me and I take it with me when travelling as well. I like it. End of story.

What’s your favourite workhorse eyeshadow or palette?

  • Hey Tracy, oh this does look great on you! I’m glad to hear it works so well! I have Color Field and while I like it, I am not in a hurry to get a second one. I’m still a little sad that they discontinued their duos: those are seriously very good!

    • I miss those duos too Sunny! My gypsy one is a HUGE fave. Sigh. What can you do though, hey?

  • Hey, stop saying you’re old! That’s ridiculous, you who occasionally have to suffer pickup lined from a 20 year old! ;p
I’m still not feeling the palette nor the brand. I understand the appeals so well then I always end up forking my money over to other things. This is the strongest argument I’ve ever heard about anything Hourglass, though. Hahaha. And the colors do look amazing. Then I think it might be just your eyes.

    • LOL thanks Lena but I AM OLD hahaha and HAHAHA man, that day that happened I still LAUGH SO MUCH.
LOL thanks! I really do like this palette! But I think it’s made for a specific age group for sure. Which is weird. Their duos were so good, but so ignored.

  • OooOOoooOOhhh! I have been finding some of my metallics and shimmers are starting to make my lids look really crepe-y. As I get closer to 40 (2.5 more years!!!) I find I have to adapt my makeup to suit my skin. I had written these palettes off… until now! Thanks Tracy!

    • Wow Juiie I had no idea you were close to 40! You look great! Keep doing what you are doing girl!

  • I think this is one of the first positive reviews I’ve read about these palettes. You make some great points. And you really did this palette justice. It looks lovely on you and those swatches… wow! I’m especially loving the second and third shades. Too. Pretty. I definitely need to check this one out. But in person.

    • Thanks Lisa! I thought a long hard time about it and used it for a just as long to make sure my thoughts were right! I hope you do check it out!

  • Lily

I’m with Lena, Tracy. STOP SAYING YOU’RE OLD! But I hear you loud and clear. Looks good in the pan and on you 🙂

  • I love how this one look on you, Tracy! Seeing this actually makes me want to reconsider and get my hands on this palette.

    • Hahaha thanks Melissa! That’s quite the compliment! Your eye looks always make me go WOW

  • Emma Bovary

I love this palette on you, so much! My eyes love the Color Field palette from this line, the deep green one <3 Part of me wishes I bought this but the green one has neutrals in it that are terrific for everyday too so it makes me feel better. I feel like popping up my post on this now!
Also – you are so not old – I have more eye wrinkles than you with ease and I'm in my early 20's, so there ;P

    • LOL hahaha thanks Emma but I am old! I appreciate the kindness, but this chick is getting up there in age! The green one is gorgeous too! I bet it looks lovely on you!

  • This is such a beautiful palette! I have been looking for a neutrals palette that will work for me, and I finally settled on Too Faced Neutral Eyes (I think that’s what it’s called) after hemming and hawing on whether or not mattes are for me (they’re not, I decided) and I love it!

  • France Savard

I’m so glad you reviewed them! I saw them at Sephora and fell in love. THey do need some tlc when applying if I read correctly?

    • Yes! Gentle brush dipping! But otherwise, it’s beautiful France! I say get one! especially this one in Infinity-you won’t be disappointed I promise!

  • I’m 36 and my eyelids have been crepey for a while :/ It’s probably because they’re on the dryer side. I’ve been avoiding super metallic shadows for this reason.
It’s great if these shadows work well on textured lids. That being said, I swatched them a week or so ago and I wasn’t impressed by the feel of the texture, so I’ll pass.

  • I swatched this in store an dLOVE it, but they price tag *tears* This looks great on your eyes!

  • kissmysparkle

I have two of these Modernist palettes, and I really, really, really love them. I’m pushing 45 and like you, find they look gorgeous on my “aging” eyes. I also found they don’t kick up my powder at all if you lightly touch the brush to the shadows–and again, like you said, that’s all you need, because they are so pigmented. When I use them like that, I have absolutely zero fallout. And they blend like butter. The price tag is hefty, but they are absolutely worth it. I think for my birthday, I’m going to pick up a couple more for myself. They’re so, so good.

    • So agree with everything you say! I think these are great.

      • Eyeshadow Addict

Amen on the kicking up powder thing! I wince when I see people grind their brushes into their shadows. I think of a light kiss when I touch my brush into a pan. 😉

  • Yup, me too! These work great for me!

  • Eyeshadow Addict

Tracy, that’s one of the most beautiful eye looks I’ve ever seen on you! There you go enabling again!

    • Aww, thanks lovely! hahahaha I’m sorry though LOL!

      • Eyeshadow Addict

I guess I can let it go this time! Ha ha!

  • Liz

My fave is the one with the blue and gold shade, but this looks so great on you! Why is it that whenever Hourglass releases something, people take YAY/NAY camps? No middle ground, lol! I haven’t tried one yet and feel neutral about the palettes. It was high time that Hourglass came out with bigger eye palettes though.

    • Thanks! Yeah, it’s weird hey? You are right people either LOVE or HATE their stuff. I’m always willing to give things a try first. And as I get older, I’m starting to see benefits of products others don’t. Getting old is a whole new ball of wax when it comes to makeup.

  • Loving the lid shade on you, Tracy! It really makes your blue eyes pop! I actually haven’t heard much about these infinity palettes, so there wasn’t enough interest to me. Nice enough I guess, but I can’t afford another nude palette, especially in a luxe price point. 🙂

  • I’ve read more meh reviews than rave on these, but they look so gorgeous on you! If I had loads of money I’d buy it just to look at that ripply prettiness.

  • Toya

I completely bypassed these due to the reviews, but you’re making me think twice, Tracy! Or even think about getting one for my mom – her birthday was on Monday and all I got her so far was a Lise Watier cream blush (which seemed fantastic c and made me want to get one for myself – holy Chanel dupe alert!). Sounds like these might be just the ticket for her!

    • Yeah I did too…but you know, I really think they’re made for aging eyes. Nothing I’ve tried has worked so well and not emphasized my wrinkles like this thing! She’ll love it! Just tell her to be gentle!
