It’s Friday Let’s Chat! Makeup Brushes, Clinique Pop Lip Colour Lipstick, and more Banff

Hey, how you doin’? I hope well! Ready for another instalment of Friday chats? Let’s get to it! There’s A LOT of pics in this post so be prepared!

SO. I knew that Lisa Eldridge was the new creative director for Lancome. I did. But I had no idea that she does videos for them-Bonjour! and Welcome to the Lancome Makeup Atelier!

Now, I can watch Lisa Eldridge apply makeup onto her lovely face ALL DAY so these videos made me happy! The other thing I love about her is that she’s so real. And her makeup application is also real. No heavy contouring or highlighting-it’s just real makeup for real life.

But the other thing that really hit home for me with these videos was that she uses her fingers mostly, AND horror of all horrors(to some makeup junkies)-she uses the makeup applicators that are sold with the products! LIKE WHAT.

Makeup Applicators that come with products

Ok, I have no Lancome makeup to show you, but this Dior beauty shot should suffice 😉

Seriously, watch her videos. She really just uses those dinky applicators in most of the videos. Occasionally you’ll see a foundation brush and an eyeliner brush that she uses to spot conceal. BUT THAT’S IT. And you know what??!! That’s pretty much all I used to use way back when. For sure in the 80s-I was a teen-I didn’t have money for makeup brushes. And even in my 20s in the 90s-I always just used the packaged applicators. Never had any makeup brushes until Quo Cosmetics started making some and I bought my first-you guessed it-real blush brush. But after seeing these videos, I thought I’d give it a go like Lisa-just use the applicators, and my fingers!

 photo IMG_0217.jpg

Not bad, hey? Now granted these higher end brands have better packaged applicators than drugstore, but still-they are dinky(how many times can I use the word dinky in this post) and tiny compared to real brushes. But honestly? It wasn’t all that hard to do?! And didn’t take any longer either?! Which you know, made me feel GOOD. Why? Well, sometimes I feel like I’m an inferior Beauty Blogger because I don’t own any Hakudoodoo or ChikaWOWA brushes like everyone else. These videos? Made me realize WHO GIVES A RATS ASS. I don’t need them. And neither do you. Also? The never contouring I loved. I hardly ever contour, unless I’m taking serious pics dudes. All these contour palettes are such overkill. So THANK YOU LISA ELDRIDGE. I LOVE YOU. FOR LIFE YEAH. 😀 Also? I think I need that Lancome Cushion Makeup stuff she uses because DANG it covers, hey?

Yup! I went to Banff. Again.

driving to Banff

Honestly, I’ve wanted to live around there since I moved to Alberta. But it’s so dang expensive that it’s just out of the question. I’ll just keep visiting and show you pics if that’s ok with you!

There are some really crazy things you can buy in Banff!

 photo IMG_5593.jpg

At least it has free shipping HAHAHAHA!

I wanted 20 of these!

This was little Marky’s FAVOURITE store in Banff(she used to call it the IMIT STORE-get it? IMIT? Christmas? Yeah-it took me about 15 minutes to figure out what she was saying too hahaha!)

The waitress warned us about this burger-that it was A LOT of food. We didn’t listen.

 photo IMG_5644.jpg

And yeah, we couldn’t finish it at all! I finished just over half of that burger and a few bites of the chili poutine before the meat sweats set in.

I love Banff. I really do! Can you tell? 😛  Don’t be surprised if I take you there again soon!

When I got home, my Sephora VIB Sale was here! Finally! Sure took long enough! And I know I can get it sooner with that Flash Shipping crap, but PFFT. I’ll take free shipping always if that’s an option thank you. I can wait for my makeup junkie fix!

I ordered these CoverFX Custom Cover Drops that everyone is raving about.

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops

Preliminary testing results is that they’re a bit drying. Which makes me sad. But I want to try them in sunscreen before I give my finally verdict. Also this colour G20 is a tad light for me-I think I need one shade up for a better match. Or maybe a mix of both. I’m so hard to match lately it’s becoming quite the chore. So much so that I usually just use concealer where I need it, and screw the rest of my face.

I also ordered this :

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer #05 Melon Pop

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer #05 Melon Pop

It’s pretty! And very springy!

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer #05 Melon Pop.jpg

Wearing Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer #05 Melon Pop-and NO CONTOURING a la Lisa Eldridge hahaha

Like I was telling my buddy Sunny @MostlySunny   on Instagram, I find this Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer #05 Melon Pop to be very similar to those MAC Huggable Lip Colours that came out last year? And I think are returning soon? I don’t know, who can keep track of those MAC Hooligans anymore LOL. Anyways, Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer is  thick, and very creamy and really sticks or hugs to your lips. Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer feels good on-like a heavy lip balm. And lasts quite well too and even leaves a pretty stain as it wears off. Only problem is that this light shade tends to emphasize lip lines-there’s a lot of white pigment in it. I think the darker shades would be better, but if there’s still a lot of white in them, well….ya’ know. I haven’t seen them in person, but maybe this weekend since there’s a Shopper’s Optimum Redemption event! Hopefully they’re there so I can swatchy! But I still do like how this lipstick 00feels and looks! Plus it’s kind of an affordable lipstick these days at $19.99. LIKE YEAH. Who’d of thunk $20 would get you an affordable department store lipstick in 2015? Not this old Beauty Junkie!

Also? This makes me SO PROUD to be Canadian.

In other news…my hot flashes have seemed to subside! Like substantially! Almost disappearing even! Today I haven’t even had one! And the last week I’ve barely had any whilst sleeping which is like WOW. I don’t know whether to be happy? Like is it over? Or SCARED OUTTA MY something worse is gonna happen…which would be my period coming back after being absent since August 2014. Because that would mean I’d have to start going through it all AGAIN… oh please be over please be over…pray for me, hey?

Yeah! That was my week! Whaddaya’ think about my no brushes revelation? Here’s my dare to you all: TRY PUTTING ON YOUR MAKEUP WITH THE DINKY APPLICATORS AND YOUR FINGERS TOO. And lemme know how it goes! I bet you pass with flying colours like I did. 😀 I know you can!

  • Happy Friday, Tracy!
I thought that Samurai suit was a Darth Vader suit (in which case I’d want one)! ;p
I do want to upgrade my brush collection, but that’s mainly because my cheap brushes are getting worn. I know many people work wonders with their fingertips, too. I might change my mind once I experience really high-end brushes, but at this point I’d rather spend my money on pretty makeup and FOOD.

    • I thought that too! I thought it was a Darth Vader suit until I read the sign hahaha.
Yeah, see I’m not going to bother. I do fine with what I have brush-wise. I’d rathe spend the money on other things.

  • Hahahaha! Actually, my mom uses the applicators. At least, she did for the longest time. After I started using makeup I bought her some brushes, but I don’t know if she actually uses them, LOL. I love Lisa because she’s so real, like you said. I hardly watch videos, but every once in a while I’ll go through her queue. She’s awesome. And she has the best accent!

Banff is beautiful! Man, I love places like that. Really gorgeous. Thanks for all of the photos!

    • I used to just use them too, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she still does.
I wish you could have come up for a visit! Oh well, maybe someday! 😉

  • I love Lisa Eldridge too! She’s so down-to-earth and, yes, REAL. I sometimes use my fingers to apply, like a pop in the crease or extra touches. Always use fingers to apply cream products. I often wonder why high-end/luxury brands still include dinky applicators, but maybe they really are on to something!

Banff looks sooo beautiful. MOUNTAINS, GANDALF.

Yay, not more hot flashes! Praying for no more crimson tide.

    • I honestly think it’s because a lot of older women just use them! I know it’s all I used in the 80s and 90s.

Hahaha, it is very LOTR. I could sit and stare at mountains all day dude. ALL DAY.

ME TOO. I use it all the time haha.
THANKS. I hope it’s all over.

  • I use the applicators that come with makeup (especially eye palettes) when I’m travelling or something, but to be honest I feel like my makeup skills have gone up a level since I started using brushes. I don’t buy expensive brushes, but stuff from Ecotools, Coastal Scents, sometimes Elf, Sonia Kashuk, can be really great. And I think it makes a difference!
On the other hand I use my fingers all the time, and I’m always slightly annoyed when I read a blogger saying that you need to apply cream shadows or blush with a brush. No you don’t, stop being a snob. Sigh.

You know what, I’ve always wanted to use the poop emoji, but I haven’t found a good occasion yet. I’m not sure… what it means exactly!

    • Hahahaha that’s true! Creams are meant for fingers.

LOL hahahaha it can mean whatever you want hahaha!

  • Liz

I use fingers all the time, but I did cave to a couple of nice brushes and it’s hard to go back to anything else. But it’s not worth spending an arm and a leg if brushes aren’t your thing.

And yep, I signed up for Lancome videos just for Lisa E. I don’t watch anyone else anymore.

Also, it sounds like Banff cured the hot flashes, lol! So awesome there. I HAVE to visit some day. Glad you had a good time!

    • Yeah, they just aren’t my thing. I do pretty well with what I’ve got so I’ll just keep plugging along. I’d rather spend that money on gym clothes haha!
They actually disappeared a few days before Banff so, yeah it’s weird. I do think this is not over though…it rarely is for most. And YES! You have to go some day! We can EAT.

  • Hey Tracy, sooo Lancome really still isn’t a brand I am super interested in, but I too can watch Lisa Eldridge put on makeup all day and having her on board will probably eventually change how I feel about the brand! What I have noticed is she uses brushes way more often than enclosed applicators on her own channel, but for the tutorials she’s done for Lancome/Chanel she uses the applicators. I think it’s probably what the brands prefer? I can do a virtually no-brush face and I love doing it, but that means I use predominantly cream products (cream/stick shadows, cream blushes…). I like how your looked turned out here tho! It’s pretty awesome! I do sometimes use enclosed little brushes, but I find sponge applicators trickier because you can’t clean them (or can you? Hmm)!

So, Banff looks great! I think the British also say zed but I still go zee :p Thanks for the shout-out and I am glad to hear the hot flashes are GONE! May they never EVER come back.

    • Maybe it’s the brand. But I think it’s because they realize most women just use the applicators. I mean, those who aren’t makeup obsessed haha. You can clean them! I’ve done it in the past.
I hope you are right, but I’m suspicious hahaha!

  • rachlovespenguins

I would love to see Banff someday. Hehehe at the sasquatch store…. There’s a store in NYC called Yellow Rat Bastard. You know I had to visit. Granted that was like 15 years ago but I google searched and it’s still there!
I like watching Lisa E too, but I honestly don’t see many of her videos because I’m just not that much of a video person in general. I rarely use enclosed applicators unless I’m out and about though. That’s the only reason I keep them actually- they fit in the compact and thus are present in my makeup bag should I need to fix anything later in the day. Other than that I use my fingers or a larger brush. Even if the included applicator is good quality I still find most of them too small and fiddly to want to use on a daily basis.
And it’s good to know that the new Clinique lippies are similar to the MAC Huggables. I really liked that formula! I’m also pretty psyched to see that it’s coming back. I hope the white base is just the lighter shades in the Clinique though, cause that’s usually a no-go for me as well.

I use zee and zed interchangeably. Because I’m a rebel. 😛

    • I’ve been to Yellow Rat Bastard actually! My brother used to live in NY.
Yeah I hope the darker shades are better. I bet they are, that’s usually the case.
      You rebel hahahaha!

  • I may be odd as I’ve used the applicators which come with those palettes and haven’t bothered to pick up brushes if those are included.

Banff is gorgeous. I haven’t been in years. I remember the Christmas store. I purchased a mouse ornament from there (an angel mouse playing the harp); I still have it. I’d love to visit the Sasquatch store. I’ve been fascinated by Bigfoot ever since I read the Graham Roumieu series.

    • Yeah, I think you’re pretty normal Iris! It’s all I used to use for years!
We haven’t been there in years too, and now twice this year! I love walking around there. But next time I want to do a hike or something.

  • I couldn’t stop ooooooh’ing and aaaaaah’ing at all those beautiful scenery pics you posted this week! I’m gonna pass on that challenge though… I HATE THOSE FLIMPSY CHEAP APPLICATORS. DEATH TO ALL THE APPLICATORS. DEATHHHHH!

  • I love Lisa Eldridge and I did know she does videos for Lancome. She did this gorgoeus blue makeup look using Lancome’s summer products- stunning! And yes, I do love how down to earth and realistic she is. That’s why people love her so much! She is so honest and not pretentious at all.

Sometimes when I am doing my makeup and my brushes are not clean, I will easy the sponge applicator for my eyeshadows and they are not that bad just for applying the color. But as far as blending, these are useless!

The sights pictures are stunning! You should print them out and frame them!

I really want to try these Clinique lipsticks, and the CoverX Drops- everyone raves about them…

    • I use the sponge if a shadow seems to have trouble showing up on my lid-the sponges work better for shades like that.

Hahaha-remember when people used to do that! Yeah seems like a long time ago!

  • I love Lisa too she’s so beautiful and does such amazing work. I’m going to Banff soon as well, pretty pics! I love Canmore even more, but crazy expensive there sigh 🙁 I use the dinky applicators when I travel hehe, I hate travelling with brushes, as they’re annoying to clean.

    • I like Canmore too but yeah, i remember when it was affordable to live there but not know! Yeah, I agree when I travel I tend to take eyeshadow pencils and creams.

  • Banff looks stunning! I’m trying to convince my husband that we need to go back to Canada in holiday. That burger man!!!

  • Toya

Lisa is still my fave youtube makeup gal, I’ve been watching these Lancome vids but they are so short! I want like 15 mins with Lisa haha.

We have a wedding to go to out West (do you guys refer to the East Coast as ‘out East?’ Weird) in July and I think we’re going to hit up Banff too. Exciting!

I bought the CoverFX drops and since my skin is on the oilier side I really like it so far! I did some major damage during the sale…I’m still waiting for my THIRD order to arrive O_o

Oh – and I sure hope the hot flashes are gone for good! ~fingers crossed~

    • She’s mine too. I also like Monika Blunder. I’d rather watch them than anything else on there.
Wahoo! And yes, we say East Coast hahaha-I think it’s cause if you’re on one end the other is so far away haha!
Yeah, they are drying I find which saddens me. I like being able to colour adjust but I’m not sure I can keep them.
They still haven’t returned! But my boobs hurt lol-I hope I don’t get a period. I want this all to be over haha!

  • Whoa this post just keeps on going and giving. LOL! I love it!

I don’t think I can go back to little tiny applicators. I’d rather run to Walmart and buy Real Techniques. They can be so inexpensive now that I don’t feel too bad about hoarding them. Oh, and Bdellium is a great inexpensive brand too! I keep those in my kit.

I’m curious about that Clinique lipstick. I LOVES.

    • Hahaha thanks!
It wasn’t bad using the applicators actually! That’s all i ever used before, so it was easy for me!
That Clinique lipstick does feel good! I wish I’d gotten a darker shade though!
