Friday Chat: Avène Event, Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation, and Hats

Last week I attended my very first blogger event! I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and there are never any events here in Edmonton so it was so exciting for Avène to actually come here!

It was so much fun meeting other bloggers from Edmonton including one of my faves Rae @theNotice, the lovely France who represents Avène, and the team from Langton PR. I cold have stayed and chatted for hours and hours haha! And the pear cocktail was pretty good too!

There’s some exciting new products coming from Avène soon, so stay tuned for that!

Remember when I picked up the new Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation and Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer at the last Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Redemption Event in Calgary?

I picked up the shade Light Warm in both products. Swatchy Time!

The Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation is very pigmented and creamy smooth for a powder foundation. You can apparently use it wet as well, but I haven’t tried that yet because even though I really like the way it feels and covers, I have one MAJOR problem with it…maybe you can tell what that is from this picture:

See the ORANGE on the sponge? It looks good for about an hour or so on me, but then it oxidizes and looks quite orange on me. It’s weird because that rarely happens to me with foundations.

It’s a shame as I do like the powder! But I’m not prepared to go and get another shade to try, because I fear the same will just happen. At least I didn’t pay for it! The Urban Decay Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is a keeper though. It’s creamy, has great coverage, blends seamlessly. It reminds me of my favourite concealer, the MAC Prolongwear, except for one thing: it creases under the eyes. It’s great for the face though and covers redness and blemishes quite well.

I bought some new Zumba sneakers, or runners as we call them here in Canada…sneakers are for sneaking around in 😛 you run in runners 😛

I had such a problem finding a pair that were flexible enough for dance, yet in my big-foot size 11s! Nike finally came to the rescue and I love them.

I’m trying to eat healthier too and eat more fruit! I really am awful when it comes to eating fruit but it’s just SO expensive right now in Canada. And I’m not a huge fan of apples. So when I see something that I do like on sale, I pick it up. These strawberries hit the sale spot!

I got a new hat! You all know I have a pretty great knit hat/toque collection, but I need to start beefing up my warm weather hat collection! I got this one at Old Navy on sale, and I hope I can find another one in California next week!

Yup, that’s right-we’re going back to visit Marky. It’s Spring Break for her, so we thought we’d go down and visit, feed her, restock her supplies and visit Disneyland. For some reason it feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her, so I’m excited to see her if only for a few hours. She’s so busy trying to finish her first all by herself 90 sec animation, so I don’t think we’ll be able to see a lot of her. But it’ll be my dose of Marky that I need, so yes! I’ll be happy with what I get.

And that was my week! How was yours? It’s going to be REALLY warm and spring like here this weekend! Highs in the double digits! I sure hope that means Spring is here to stay!

Have you ever had a foundation oxidize on you? Does it happen a lot? This is probably only the second foundation I’ve ever had do that.

  • LOL I say running shoes for shoes you actually work out in and sneakers for shoes you put on to look athletic but not actually be athletic in. SNEAKY?!

  • Whoaa so sorry to hear about the foundation oxidizing on you! It doesn’t happen too often here, either. In memory, only Guerlain Lingerie de Peau compact and Lancome Miracle Cushion do that. The Guerlain one only oxdizes a tiny little, but the Lancome one makes me look like a oompa loompa! So that’s really no good. Love your new kicks! I used to have problems finding Nike sneakers when I was a kid. I was always forced to buy the male versions! Was super excited when I finally owned a pair of lady sneakers from them haha

    Have fun with Marky!

    • Yeah it’s weird when it does! It looks even worse in person lol! That was me too! It’s a shame having big feet LOL!!

  • Hi Tracy! To start off with the blogger event- that’s awesome although I am surprised it’s your first one. I hope that one day, maybe in 10 years I will be invited to such an event.

I bought the UD foundation too and I love it. I use it as a finishing powder though but I haven’t noticed it turning orange.

I love the Old Navy hat, I love the idea of wearing hats and I have quite a few but I always feel stupid wearing them in public, I don’t know why. So they just lay in my closet…

Yay for going to California to visit Marky!

Zumba shoes- I have been faithful to Nike TR Fit shoes and I think they are the best and perfect for Zumba…Speaking of which there will be none in my life for the next God knows how long.

Last week I went to Vegas and my knee got dislocated, had to go to an ER, I can barely walk and I have to wear a stupid immobilizer which is driving me crazy. I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent crying and I am freaking out about not being able to work out or move 🙁

    • It’s crazy, but living out here there’s never events so this was special! Glad the foundation works for you! I’m still not giving up on it quite yet. Maybe once this menopause is in full swing it’ll be better.

NOOooooo poor you! HUGS. What did you do? I’m so sad for you 🙁 I hope it heals fast.

      • I am so bummed and so worried about my weight loss and that I will put on weight…Going from working out 4-5 times a week to zero is a disaster. I was getting up from using a toilet (lol) in a restaurant and my knee just popped out. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced. I am praying it heals fast!

  • Powder foundation with creamy texture seems to often oxidize. For me, liquid foundation with pink undertones do that. So weird.

Glad to hear you had a fantastick time at the event! I’ve only met up with a few online acquaintances and loved the experience. Hopefully we meet in real life someday, too! 🙂

  • Lily

Ah so jealous of Raewhale for being able to meet you, and I’m also jealous you get to meet Rae! The UD concealer creases under my eyes as well, but I do like its texture. I find it less heavy than the NARS one. I have Light Warm as well, but it’s one shade too light for me 🙂

    • She’s ADORABLE dude! Yeah, it’s better that the NARS I agree! But the shades are a bit off I think.

  • I need new summer hats, too! They’re so much fun! It’s starting to be nice and warm here, too.

Say hi to Marky for me and EAT FIVE CHURROS, THANKS.

  • Liz

I need a summer hat that doesn’t scream beach! Getting too old to let the sun beat down on me now, lol.

And the Armani Silk Luminous that everyone raves about totally oxidized on me years ago when I was super oily. I exchanged for a new colour but that one oxidized too, so you’re right to keep away from the UD.

    • Right? I can’t tell you mow many sunburns my scalp has endured.
Yeah I think it’s a formula problem when that happens for sure. It’s sad, because it’s a great powder!

  • that’s SO awesome that there’s finally an event in Edmonton!

  • Ooh, love the bright pops of colour on your new running shoes and so fun to hear about your first event! Definitely curious about the new ‘adult acne’ product from Avene 🙂

  • rachlovespenguins

Don’t make me want to steal all the Avene! 😛 I ordered a bottle of the Hydrance Optimale serum from Amazon and have been enjoying it. I like that it’s not ridiculously perfumed, though for just a few seconds I do smell something rather like school glue? Whatever it is it dissipates quickly and isn’t enough to make me reconsider my purchase. I’d buy it again!

I’ve heard such nice things about that UD foundation, it’s a shame that it goes all orange. 🙁
I have a Physician’s Formula powder that does it too, but I wear such a light amount that it’s not terribly noticeable. The sponge is disturbingly orange-brown when I go to wash it out though. Yuck!

Cute hat! I’m on the lookout for a new sun hat myself. Preferably something vintage and very French Riviera-esque.

    Have fun with Marky!

    • It’s such a great brand, right? LOVE it.
Yeah i don’t know why…it never happens to me! It’s sad.
I need MORE hats! And I will thanks! SO EXCITED.

  • Sounds like you had a great week Tracy! I love that hat on you – very spring/summer stylish and the lipstick looks amazeballs too! Enjoy your family catchup xoxo

  • I just got the foundation! Unfortunately the color is a bit off so I’m going to have to return it and switch…

    • Yeah it’s weird hey? I still keep thinking about getting the lighter shade but….I’m sure it’ll turn orange too. Good luck!

  • Emma Bovary

Aussie’s call them runners too, high five to that 😉 That Avene event looks like lots of fun, I’ve loved all of the products I’ve tried from the brand I look forward to seeing what else is coming out 🙂

    • HIGH FIVE!!
It was so much fun! Getting to talk to people you just email! And yes! These are so GOOD, and there’s more good stuff coming out!

  • Aw too bad about the oxidation, I get that with Laura Mercier tinted moisturizers, which is also sad cuz I really like the finish. I’ve never attended any events before, looks fun!

    • I know it suck like a bucket of ticks!
Me neither we never get them here! It was an experience!

  • I’m so excited that you went to your first blogger event and had such a fun time and got to meet Rae! I LOVE the orange lipstick you’re wearing with your new hat – it pops against your skin and the lavender color of your hair! Beautiful! I hope you guys had a blast visiting Marky and enjoying yourselves in the warm California springtime!
