Staying Home on Saturday Night and Detoxing With Nuxe Paris

Those of you that are around my age probably remember using this excuse to get out of a date on Saturday night: Sorry, I have to wash my hair on Saturday night.  Yup, that seriously was an excuse we used to give, and honestly it really wasn’t the reason you didn’t want to go out, it was because of this:

loveboat

And Fantasy Island! And then, Saturday Night Live! Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner, Jon Belushi-the good ole’ days of SNL! Saturday was a great night to stay home and catch up on your beauty routine while watching  some of your favourite TV shows. Which, also included washing your hair, so it’s not like we were really lying HAHAHA.

Fastforward to now, thirty years later, and I’ll still give any excuse to not have to leave the house on Saturday night. I love staying in on Saturdays and doing some beauty detoxing. Especially this week! All the turkey, chocolate, Baileys-UGGGH. I really feel the need to detox big time!

Here’s what’s on my detox menu tonight:

Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask

Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask

Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask($27) is a deep, pore cleansing mask that uses no clay at all. Say what? Yup. No Clay. No mud. Nada.

 photo IMG_5842.jpg

It’s a thick, sticky gel that smells good enough to eat, and it probably is. BIO Beaute is Nuxe’s natural and organic line. Myrtle Leaf Extract will help detoxify, and Orange, Lemon and Mandarin Essential Oils will clarify the skin. This my friends, is the detox mask you’ve been waiting for if you’re like me and most clay ones suck out every last drop of moisture from your face. The directions say to apply Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask and leave it on for 5 minutes. What I do, is apply it and then make myself some tea. Chamomile please. In a skull mug, because we’re detoxifying remember?

About 30 minutes later, I’ll massage the gel into my skin and BAZINGA! It starts to change into an oil, lifting out any clogged dirt in my pores, especially around my nose. I take my time massaging the oil and let it really get the job done. Then, add a bit of water and that oil starts to emulsify-just like an oil-cleanser. Once the mask is rinsed off, I’m left with clear, hydrated, skin. Pores are clean! It’s my favourite mask right now, and I use it every week to keep my skin clear.

Dinner tonight will be something light! Vegetable soup with a side of roasted garlic broccoli. YUMMM. I made this soup last week and we’re having it again tonight. It’s a great, light detoxing meal.

Ingredients
2 cans chicken broth (I use low-sodium)
3 cups V-8 juice (Again, I use low-sodium V8 or tomato juice)
2 cans Italian diced tomatoes(no salt)
1 small onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 package sliced mushrooms
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 zucchini, diced
1 yellow squash, diced
2 cups fresh or frozen green beans
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
3-4 cups shredded cabbage
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
Salt and Pepper to taste

Sauté the garlic, onions, carrots, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes in a large pan sprayed with some cooking spray. Add to a large crockpot, with the remaining ingredients. Cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until vegetables are cooked. EASY! And tasty too. This recipe makes a LOT of soup and it freezes well.

And when it’s time for bed, I’ll continue my skin detox while I sleep with Nuxellence Detox.

Nuxellence Detox

Our skin cells produce waste, just like our bodies. To be able to renew, cells need to detoxify. And that happens at night, when we go to sleep.

How do skin cells detoxify? Science-y time!

-Glutiathione, an antioxidant converts toxins into easily eliminated water-soluble elements
-Proteasomes, a protein degradation “machine” within the cell that can digest a variety of proteins and recycle damaged ones
-Autolysis, which is a more comprehensive system that destroys all damaged proteins and cell components.

Until now, most skincare products worked on targeting the proteasomes to detoxify. But they get overwhelmed when there’s an overload and buildup of toxins. That’s when Autolysis steps in to compensate. But as we age, there’s a general slowdown and our natural cell detoxing isn’t as effective. Nuxellence Detox($65) promotes Autolysis to help keep cell detoxification young and working by using an extract of silk tree and sugars. It increases the enzymes that are necessary for keeping these detox systems humming along. Nuxellence Detox also helps repair altered Mitochondrial DNA to restore cells’ vital energy, so that detox is even more effective.

Now, you are supposed to use Nuxellence Detox every night, but I can’t as it’s quite powerful for me. If you have stronger and more resilient skin then you’d be fine, but I use it about 3 times a week, and it’s especially effective using it after the Nuxe Bio Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin Rich Detox Mask. It smells floral, but not overpowering at all and the scent doesn’t linger. You can even put another night cream on top if you wish, but I usually don’t. Sometimes I’ll put a face oil on top if my skin is feeling extra parched. But tomorrow morning, my skin will look fresher, brighter, cleaner-younger! I will look rested and radiant, as if I’ve had slept for an extra 2 hours says Nuxe and I say YUP! I really do look like I’ve had my beauty sleep when I use Nuxellence Detox!

Well, time to go get started on my soup and start my Saturday Night Detox! There’s no favourite TV shows on Saturdays anymore, so I’ll probably watch a movie with Marky tonight. Last Saturday night home with the redhead!

Do you have a detox beauty routine too? What products do you use?

  • Hey Tracy, that detox mask sounds like my thing! Gel to oil? Count me in! Also, I am ADDICTED to roasted broccoli with garlic. I’d eat it for a snack! I use the Omorovicza mud mask when I need to detox. It’s about the only clay mask I actually like!

    • You’d LOVE it! Someday I’d love to try that Omorivicza one-SOME DAY hahaha!
And right? Roasted garlic broccoli is the new candy LOL!!

  • I think I need to get this mask! I am also on a mission to detox — and declutter – my life. So, I cut out carbs again starting yesterday, and eating more veggies and lean proteins. No more cream in my coffee! I also had chamomile tea and about to curl up with a good book — perfect Saturday! (P.S. I remember watching the Love Boat and Fantasy Island — the plane the plane!)

    • LOL hahahaha I love you! 😀
Good luck on the no carbs-I do that too, but last only a few days LOL. I don’t really believe in cutting food groups out anymore, except for a few days to detox. Everything in moderation is my mantra!
You’d love this mask! It’s really great and the first one that really works for me!

  • I recently switched up my detox routine to spread it out over the week. I rotate between masks and do an exfoliating, clarifying, and hydrating each on three different nights of the week. My closest friend was in town for the last four days so we ate, drank, and were merry the entire time. My waist line is killing me, but the masks kept my skin in check! I will, however, be making your vegetable soup soon to detox as it looks far more tasty than the typical recipes I’ve seen. Hurrah for mushrooms and zucchini!

    • I exfoliate over the week! But these two detox products I can only use once a week. Sounds like you had a blast with your bud! That’s awesome!
And yes! Lemme know if you like it! I love al veggies, but if there’s mushrooms and zucchini in one it’s LOVE hahaha!

  • Waaaaah, that mask sounds great! And it LOOKS great! I kinda wanna jump into the jar… swim in it… live in it.

  • Ah, classic SNL is my fave! And yeah, a cozy night in with some good skin care is totally my speed. I saw that mask in-store a while back and was totally tempted by the scent and texture. I may have to pick it up soon 🙂

  • Liz

I’m really really curious to try the Bio Beaute mask (I think it’s just $27 and not $50?) but I can’t be bothered to print out the Shoppers coupons on points days and keep missing good opportunities to snag it. Lately I’ve been too lazy to mask and detox even though most Sat nights have become stay-ins. I’ll try tonight. 🙂

    • Ahhh, you are right! I corrected the price. There’s a coupon for tomorrow! 😉
It’s a great night to do stuff like this if you are staying in-make it a resolution lol!

    • BooBooNinja

Gah. When will Shoppers start accepting coupons on smart phones?!

  • The NUXE stuff here sounds great! I think sometimes I can get NUXE on various online stores, but not the newest products right away. Bah! I’m pretty well stocked on skincare right now, but I’m filing this away for later!

  • Such a fun post, Tracy! Thanks for the recipe – that soup looks AMAZING! I loved hearing about your detox routine, esp. the tea in the skull mug. I love it! I wish we had that Nuxe Bio mask here – it sounds so amazing!! I hope you had a great evening with Marky, even though there was no Love Boat, lol! 😀

    • Thanks my friend! xx Nuxe is a great French Brand! Tends to get overlooked for some reason, but their products are really nice! And we did! We ended up watching The Big Fat Quiz Anniversary Quiz from England and laughed all night! We love watching panel shows from England-one of our things! 😀

  • omg that skull sugar bowl just made my day. where is it from?!

  • That mask is one of my favorites but it’s basically a gel cleanser that turns oily and then emulsifies. You can do that with a lot of cleansers that do similar things, they just don’t smells this GOD DAMN EDIBLE.
We just got the Nuxellence detox in the office.. I’m not tempted to try it out hmm. The whole DNA repairing jig makes me go “nu uh”.

    • It’s such a great mask!
And hahaha, yeah I know! 😉 But it really does make you wake up looking refreshed and radiant!

  • Lily

LOL Tracy! We have been taking Ashton out at night, but even though he’s sleeping, he gets all fussy after 9pm. So, no more going out for us unless there’s someone to babysit. Not until he’s older anyway. I’m on a mission to use up my existing masks before purchasing new ones. Those you have here look good though 🙂

    • Hahaha good for you guys! But yeah, I remember those days.
I think you’d enjoy this one a lot!

  • Toya

Quite honestly, I’m happy to be home any friggin’ night of the week lately lol. And I’m all about beauty detox, so this sounds good to me! I have a ton of masks right now, but I know Rae also raved about this one so I might have to grab it when I use a few of the ones I have now.

    • LOL hahaha me too Toya! I don’t really leave the house unless i REALLY have to these days.
And yes! It’s really good. Marky tried it when she was home and loved it too, so I bought her one to take to college.

  • dowantmakeup

OO YAY you posted the veg soup recipe! Definitely pinning this to make sometime. I’ve always avoided detox masks due to the clay content, but this one by Nuxe seems nice!

    • I avoid call masks too, but this one is not really like that-it’s just a moisturizer, but works like one. You’ll love it! And SOUP. Is LIFE!
