Okay Fun Now! My Makeup 2014 Favourites!

Makeup!! This is why we’re all here, right?? Ok, let’s get down to the nitty gritty, the GOOD SHTUFF…My Makeup 2014 Favourites!

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Bases, powders, concealers…Which honestly, I don’t really have any at this moment…

My Makeup 2014 Favourites

I REALLY like the Vichy Idealia BB Cream don’t get me wrong! But it’s a BB cream, and not really a foundation, right? So what I’ve been doing is wearing it, using the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealers on spots and such(HATE this stuff under my eyes, but on the rest of the face this stuff is WOW), and setting everything with my Hourglass Oxygen Mineral Powder. That powder is supposed to let your skin BREATHE, and honestly I think it really does because if I have a hot flash? Everything stays put fairly well. It’s not perfection, but close enough for now.

But as far as foundations go? HATE them all. I have a DRAWER full at the moment and none of them look good on me, or last through a hot flash….which maddens me to no end. I’m on the hunt right now for SOMETHING that works for hot and flashy me. And don’t worry, when I find IT, I will let you know! PROMISE. Cross my menopausal heart… <3

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Favourite Blush

Make Up Forever HD Cream Blushes

Make Up Forever HD Cream Blushes

HANDS DOWN Make Up Forever HD Cream Blushes are HOLY GRAIL for this blush fiend. Best blush out there on the market. I don’t even look at most of my powered blushes anymore. I use the Real Techniques Stippling Brush to apply and just dab, dab, dab and Bazniga! Glowy cheeks that last and last! If you still haven’t tried one, then DO IT. For the love of makeup, listen to me. 😀

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Favourite Highlighter

Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid

Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid.jpg

Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid

This is the only highlighter that works for me. I’ve tried LOADS believe me, even was sent one by Illamasauqua-it was called Gleam Aurora??? NOT A FAN to be honest. Most highlighters settle into my cheek laugh lines, or are too dang glittery for me. I don’t want an obvious metallic stripe on my cheekbone-who wants that? Maybe Max Headroom???? CRIPES highlighters these days. And Youtube “Makeup Gurus”, HOLY EFF??  If you take most of your makeup-wearing tips from them? I PRAY FOR YOU. 😛

Honestly, I could go my whole dang life without needing a highlighter. I think they are kind of unnecessary. WE DIDN’T USE THEM IN THE 80s. And life was STILL GOOD. It’s the truth though! You see, that’s how I gauge a lot of makeup-whether it’s BETTER-makes your face look ALIVE. Highlighter is just makeup fluff to me. Use an eyeshadow that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone and BOOM-same effect as most of the expensive crap out there. Save your money. But this liquid one, WORKS for old gals like myself. It’s subtle, and not obvious and metallic. Best part is that I also use it as a primer, or even mix it in foundations to get a more glowy effect. LOVE the stuff. And it works well over powder foundations too.

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Favourite Eyeshadow

Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows

ANOTHER hard one for me, since I haven’t really worn many eyeshadows this year. I freakin’ give up most of the time. Too much work and hurt for me, as they bother my eyes like crazy. But, I do really like the Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows that came out this year, especially this one in Grey Sparkle.

Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows.jpg

Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows

Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows have a “cream-powder” texture that combines the comfort and smoothing effect of a cream with the fineness and holding power of a powder. It’s a neat texture-feels creamy, but is powdery yet to the touch. Almost like the Armani ETK version, but not quite.

I was sent the shade nude pink to review, and did like it! But it’s nude. And hardly visible, so I don’t think I reviewed it. I picked up Grey Sparkle during the Super Optimum Shopper’s Drug Mart Event at the beginning of December and we’ve been the best of friends ever since. Stays put(mind you I gotta prime first, but I got extremely oily lids), easy to blend, looks NICE on. Love the stuff enough to go buy another, so I guess that means it’s a favourite, right? RIGHT.

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Favourite Eyeliners

Marc Jacobs Skyliner Set

Marc Jacobs Skyliner Set

THESE. Are what I wear daily for sure. Who needs eyeshadows to faff around with when you have these??? NOT ME. So smooth, so creamy and they stay PUT. Yeah, they’re expensive I know, which is why I was ecstatic to find them in the USA and use my $25 VIB certificate to get them! But DANG. I even bought a full sized one AFTER getting this set. That’s true eyeliner love!

My Makeup 2014 Favourites: Favourite Lipsticks

1. Colourpop Lippie Stix and Pencils

THESE. WOW. At only $5 each, you just can’t go wrong. SO many cool shades, all of them comfy to wear, even the mattes!

If you wanna see them on my face, just check out my instagram feed, because I showed A LOT of them there. I post my favourite lips of the day there often, so follow me!

NARS AUDACIOUS LIPSTICKS Angela, Brigitte, Grace, Natalie

Again, check my instagram feed because I’ve pretty much posted a pic of me wearing all of the ones I own! Here’s a pic of me wearing Greta, my last purchase:

NARS Audacious Lipstick Greta

NARS Audacious Lipstick Greta

I am currently awaiting the arrival of Audrey right now….SO EXCITED. It’s been sold out every time I go look for it! But these are amazing lipsticks, so I understand! So creamy. So pigmented. Stay put with NO BLEEDING-which is beginning to be a problem for me lately. I love a good hydrating lipstick, but they can sure MOOOOOOOVE  around baby when you start to get…older and lip lines SUDDENLY appear 🙁 . And that’s not a good look-lipstick on your chin is NOT shmexxxxxy(and funny enough NARS Velvet Lipgloss Pencils move like CRAZY on me now). These Audacious lipsticks do not budge. And MAN… they last forever! I don’t find them drying, and I don’t find my lips hurt after wearing them so…take that and form your own opinion about them is what I say. Suffice it to say that Audrey will be my SIXTH… YES #6 Audacious Lipstick shade…so ya gotta’ know that means I LOVE them.

I think that covers it? Face, Eyes, Lips, Cheeks? YUP. That’s pretty much it, my Makeup 2014 Favourites! I have one more 2014 Favourites Instalment-extra stuff like hair and hands, and even food! If you missed my 2014 Favourite Skincare post, click here to take a read.

Have any of these makeup items been YOUR favourites in 2014? What have you loved wearing this past year?

  • Efrain

Have you think about trying only powder to see if the survive the hot flashes or try one of those foundations that are supposed to be water-proof like MAC or MUFE F&B?

Blush *swoon*, I still haven’t bought one but instead I’m looking Sleek blush palettes as they’re cheaper compared to others.

That Burberry primer it’s awesome it makes your skin looks like you have radiant skin but I’m pretty sure it broke me out; right now I have lustre drops and I really like the effect.

Ps. that lipstick and frames look awesome on you.

    • Yeah, I have! I actually bought MAC Studiofinish -haven’t used it since 1996 HAHAHA, but gonna try it again! I don’t like the feeling of foundation on my face as it sweats, so I’d rather not try foundations like those-I think they’d clog up my pores too much?
The sleek ones are nice for sure! And thanks so much! I love my new glasses so much!

  • Hey Tracy, wow you’re really digging Audacious! Have I told you how pretty Greta looks on you? I love how unique it is! If I used pencil liners often, I’d totally have gone for the MJ set as well! I’m going through my posts this year and compiling a list of my favorites 🙂 Another year is almost over and it’s been great to have you around xx

  • WOOOOOO those lipsticks. I need one.

I want a liquid glowy primer sorta thing…that Burberry one I’m pretty sure isn’t p-free or I would have jumped on it like….LIKE MAPLE SYRUP ON WAFFLES. (OMG I LOVE MY WAFFLE IRON LOL). All the other liquid ones are insane, like the Becca ones? TOO metallic. I think maybe I should try the MAC strobe stuff to mix in?

    • GEEZ, I got another one-SEVEN. i need to get rid of the rest of my lipsticks now LOL.

MAC strobe is nice, but I found it too greasy? Trying to think of another one that’s cheaper…..

  • Coco

Agreed, the MUFE blushes are amazing. Happy New Year xx

  • Eugenia

Lil Sis, every year I say I’m going to do one of these fave round-up kind of posts, and then all sorts of things get in the way of my actually doing it so…I’ll live vicariously through your selections! I’ve been meaning to pick up a few more of the NARS Audacious lippies…now you have me curious for Audrey!

  • These are some gorgeous picks! The Clarins Ombre Mattes made it to my ‘best of’ list too and you’re reminding me of how I have to try those MUFE blushes! Have a very happy New Year’s, Tracy! xo

  • Lily

I haven’t been wearing much makeup this year, and from my posts this entire year, I think you know what I reach for most of the time 🙂 I need to try them NARS lippies. In fact, once Ashton is a little bigger, I want to travel to KL for some makeup shopping! I’m kinda bored being stuck at home. LOL

    • I do! And like you I don’t wear much anymore either. Eyeshadows Ive totally given up now for sure. With my big glasses, I don’t have to bother anymore. I’m so BAD, I just bought ANOTHER Nars one today LOL-that’s gonna be 7. All my other lipsticks need to go LOL!

  • That Marc Jacobs set is still on my wish list! Good to hear you like it too.

    • UGGGH, so good Melissa. If you can’t find it-lemme know. I’m going back to the USA next week and if they still have it, I can get it for you!

      • Oh! Yes! By when do you need to know? And how will you get it to me? Switzerland is a bit tricky with importations and shizzle…

      • Is it? Well, hmmmm…lemme check the post office first about the rules!

      • I had a friend from Florida ship some stuff over for me that he ordered at Boots. I ended up paying 30 CHF of extra import taxes on top of shipping. That made it a very expensive buy.

  • That Vichy Idealia BB is just a BB cream indeed, doesn’t do much if you ask me compared to a full on foundation. You’re going to love the new nightcream from the range they’re launching here in March.. probably next year for you guys 🙁 It’s for new moms, stressed/tired skin, lack of sleep and no radiance.

    • Agree-I use it to get that glow pink finish it leaves. It doesn’t cover anything. OOOOH ok I’m excited now! I love their products!

      • Since it doesn’t cover anything and you miss the glow.. you should try the Caudalie vinoperfect range. That day fluid has SPF15 + it really kicks the glow up a few notches. Apply some foundation on top or mix it in. Give it a go and get back to me, a colleague started doing that today after I recommended it to her and she’s loving it.

      • Oh that’s a great idea! I will! Thanks!

  • Those are some pretty sweet favorites! I still say that Nars lippie looks stunning on you! And I LOVE those ColourPop swatches! ColourPop is pretty amazing and very easy on the bank account lol. Definitely one of my faves of the year, too!

    • Thanks lovely! xx The brand is freakin’ amazing. I need to explore their shadows more!

  • So many good stuff in your favourites! I want me some ColourPop too! LOL

    Btw, happy new year! 🙂

  • The MUFE blushes are high on my wishlist for 2015! Hmmm… 2014 favourites include Tom Freaking Ford Lip Color lipstick, TFF eye primer duo (based on one makeover!), and Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara because that baby does everything for my lashes and I love the long, tapered brush!

  • Liz

Want to try some ColourPop and Audacious but it’s hard to choose any colours, beyond the fact that I probably can’t handle having another lipstick, lol. And I picked up the Burberry glow thing from Winners but haven’t really used it much. When it’s layered with a glowy foundation like Shu Lightbulb though – wowza. Galadriel face. I haven’t been wearing much foundation lately though either. The BBs have finally won me over.

    • LOL. I do wish the shipping was cheaper from Colourpop. Almost better to order with a friend to split the cost I say.

Yeah. I’ve given up on most foundations. Although I’m still trying with powders lately!

  • i don’t know why, but the marc jacobs liners are so sad for me. They wear like iron on my hands when swatched, but aren’t that impressive on my eyes :((( Oh well! At any rate, i always wanted to try burberry fresh glow (and i think i have a sample packet!) and have totally been eyeing audacious lipsticks since they came out!

  • So many crack up moments during this post! “We didn’t use them in the 80s and life was still good!” MAX HEADROOM! I’m dying!!
The NARS Audacious Lipstick I have (Anita) dries my lips horribly and is so uncomfortable. I feel like I must’ve gotten one from a crummy batch though, b/c everyone else thinks they’re the best things since sliced bagels! I got mine in AZ. Maybe it got dried out in the desert heat?!?! I blame the desert. 😉

    • LOL thanks babe! 😉
I find the lighter NARS Audacious ones more drying than the darker ones. Also, the lighter ones get better the more you use them for some reason-like the moisture is down the lipstick a bit or something?

      • I will keep on using it and see if I crack into the moisture barrier, lol! You’re awesome, T-$!

  • Angela

Gah! What have you done, Tracy??? I have a wee lipstick obsession and that photo of you & Greta made my jaw drop. And I have a drawer full of lipsticks (not a small drawer, either). ha ha
Happy New Year! I hope you’re keeping bundled up these days (SHEESH!!). Thanks for your skincare post, too; I will seek out that Vichy serum, as I also have the flaky skin problem (even right after exfoliating!). There’s hope yet!

    • Happy New year Angela! And thanks hahaha! I know-my lipstick cup is overfloweth too, but I think I’m obsessed with these NARS ones! I’m seriously considering getting rid of most of my lipsticks since I haven’t shown them much love lately!
And yes you too! Happy New Year! January in Alberta! It’s so cold haha! I grew up in Winnipeg, so the frigid cold is something that I kind of am used to, even though the first day it’s like SHOCK. But you know, the good thing about these hot flashes is that I find I don’t need as heavy of a jacket as I did when I was younger LOL.
Yes! I just bought another bottle of the Vichy Serum hahaha-for Marky to take with her to California! If I don’t use the stuff every day, the flakes come back. It’s a must for me! I hope you love it!

  • Toya

Frig! Another person loving those NARS lipsticks…I’m feeling mightily persuaded to pick one up finally. Damn…I’m trying SO HARD to reduce my lipstick stash but these just sound so good!

And concur on the Burberry luminizer…I had to be a bit more strategic with how I used it because my skin is on the oily side, but it is far and wide the most natural looking glow-getting product I’ve ever used. I definitely prefer a more natural glow too, as opposed to discoball highlight – this delivers in spades.

    Great picks Tracy!
