Karl Lagerfeld Shupette for Shu Uemura Collection Review

I’m going to start this post with a confession: I am NOT a cat person. Sorry! I’m just not. I mean, they’re ok-I don’t hate them or anything, but I would never want one. So when theย Karl Lagerfeld Shupette for Shu Uemura Collection was announced, I wasn’t all goo-goo eyes for it like every other cat obsessed beauty blogger. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the man first of all. I mean, didn’t he steal Choupette(that’s how you actually spell the cat’s name) from someone or something like that? Who does that? And who lets Karl do that? I mean, why? I don’t get it. Wouldn’t you say: Karl, DUDE. HANDS OFF MA CAT?

The other thing that I don’t care for? Is the design of the Shu Uemura Choupette/Shupette-I mean the cartoon drawing created of it. I think it’s….creepy…*cringes while everyone screams NO IT’S NOT TRACY*

Case in point: I showed my hubby the little Shupette USB Drive and he said to me, and I quote,“Why does that cat look like Colonel Sanders?”

He’s right.

And I couldn’t stop laughing for about 30 minutes straight. ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyhoooooo, creepy Colonel Sanders Cat aside, the Karl Lagerfeld’s Shupette for Shu Uemura Collection is BEAUTIFUL. Be prepared for a lot of cat-puns in the names and descriptions… And a LOT of pictures too.

See the paw prints on the poof? There’s cat paw prints all over the collection and packaging.

I love the mesh screen! Makes it easy to get powder on the poof, although I’d use a big fluffy brush if you’re going to use this as a setting powder.

You can see the sparkles in there. And a heavy swatch really shows the pink glow you get from it.

It’s a gorgeous powder! Really finely milled and looks gorgeous on the skin. LOVE.

They have a neat design too, with a little hole so that you can pour as much glitter as your heart desires into the lid. Although, it’s a little hard to control so be careful.

Really pretty! If you love glitter for the holidays, then this is a great little set to get.

The stars of the collection have to be these eyeshadow trios!

What’s cool, is that you can actually remove the eyeshadows really easily and put them in another palette if you wish. I love that about Shu Shadows. You can create your own perfect palette. But, if you like the Colonel Sanders Cat, then you’d probably want to keep them in these LE Shupette cases. ๐Ÿ˜›

SEE? I die. These shadows just GLOWWWWWW, like Ice Ice Baby! So perfect for winter. I’ll be wearing this trio a lot!

The pink ones are just as awesome too!

I lined my waterline with a sliver eyeliner for a little more ice! It’s winter here already, so I’m all about the icy, snow queen looks right now. That’ll last until about the end of January, when I’ll be wishing for winter to be over haha!

The coppery brown makes the pinks wearable don’t you think? The eyeshadows in both trios blend like a dream, and last all day over a primer.

So, even if I’m not a fan of cat stealing Karl and his Colonel Sanders Cat, I am a HUGE fan of these pieces from the Karl Lagerfeld Shupette for Shu Uemura Collection! It’s well worth checking out, and is much more affordable than other LE collections from the brand.

Whaddaya’ think? Isn’t this a pretty collection from Shu Uemura? And seriously, if you have a cat, would you let Karl steal it?ย

*products sent by the lovely PR for review, thoughts are mine as always because who else would compare a cat to Colonel Sanders besides me?ย

  • Tracy, how about this: let me do you a favor and take these from your hands, especially that USB stick LOL

I get it though. Not everybody loves cats. We’re still friends :p I don’t think they did the best job with the illustration. That makeup pouch for example, is REALLY not my thing. However, a cat lady’s gotta do what a cat lady’s gotta do. I kinda want to pick up the lash curler as backup because you know, there is a cat on it ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • LOL hahaha I LOVE the collection-just not this cat! I mean, they could have made it WAY cuter. And I get it-you cat ladies gotta get it haha!

  • I heard the illustration was done by Karl Lagerfeld himself. So it makes sense that it looks kinda weird/screwy lol.

That blue trio is GORGEOUS though. You nailed the blue eyeshadow look. Wow wow.

    • LOL I guess! I do not like that drawing at all. It’s hideous!
Thanks dude!! It’s SO pretty, hey? And on your brown eyes I think it would be just as if not even more WOW WOW.

  • OMFG Terry is hilarious. I’m dying over here.

AND THANK YOU FOR SAYING EVERYTHING I WANTED TO SAY ABOUT THIS DAMNED COLLECTION. I think the cat’s creepy. I think Karl Lagerfeld is creepy – and a douche. Yes, he did steal someone’s cat. And as cute as I think cats are, I adopt dogs, LOL. Catdogs, as it were, but still.

ANNND I was going to skip everything about this creepy collection BUT THAT POWDER IS EFFING GORGEOUS. I have to go look, now.

    • You should have seen me last night…I was rolling on the floor and my stomach HURT from laughing. :D:D:D
He IS creepy. And I can’t stand him at all. He’s a JERK in my opinion and I don’t get people who like him at all??? Do you know what that man says? Seriously, find another designer to admire-one that’s actually SANE.
The whole collection is really gorgeous to be honest. I was surprised at how much I like it!

  • oh i agree..that cat image is super creepy and I’m not a cat person either. i like dogs but i’m also not going to drool over Facebook/instragram photos of animals. not a mushy person in general.

i do like the glitteriness of the glitter set but when would i ever wear that shiz? to my cat parties..?

    • Yeah, me too. I like animals but I don’t go all gaga for them. I can cry at the drop of a hat though, but I’m not into cutesy things. I wear combat boots most of the time LOL.
CAT PARTIES HAHA. I don’t know-you’re YOUNG dude! No Christmas parties or New Year parties? That’s what I’d use them for.. ๐Ÿ˜€

      • I’m really an old lady that sleeps at 10 every night LOL so no parties for me ๐Ÿ˜›

  • FINALLY! Someone who isn’t making cat eyes at this collection just because it’s got a cat on it. I don’t like cats either and it seems like that’s anathema in the blogging world for some reason ๐Ÿ˜› But no, no cats for me and now that I see the Colonel Sanders connection, this collection will never look the same again! HAHAHA ๐Ÿ˜€ On their own, the products do look nice but because there’s a cat on it, there’s no way I’m going near it. But you know, it’s a terribly smart move – people’ll just buy it for the cat theme y’know.

    • LOL hahaha I know, it’s like mandatory to have a cat and be a Beauty Blogger for some reason. I think it can get rather nauseating with some people. And I know, every time I pick up a piece I start to LAUGH now. I can’t UNSEE what I know now LOL!!
And yup. Cat people will flock to it!

  • Lily

LOL LOL!!! I’m not a cat person either. I prefer dogs and puppies ๐Ÿ˜› AND LOL at Colonel Sanders!! Seriously, I was laughing so hard, I couldn’t understand the rest of your review. I had to read it again after I stopped laughing. OK sure, the colours are nice, and the packaging is clever, but still, I think the smartest here is your husband ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I was laughing so hard it took forever to write this hahahaha!
      Don’t TELL HIM THAT LOL.

  • Haha, that Colonel Sanders split screen is too much! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I AM a huge cat person, but was luckily able to resist the collection. The dusting powder does look gorgeous, though, and I love the eye shadow combos you used ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lol at the Colonel Sanders comparison! That aside, I think the cat illustration looks cute from far away but close up it looks scared and worried! Anyway, I do like the blue eyeshadow palette! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Liz

SO MUCH LOL. No love for cats or Lagerfeld here either. When I first got into blogging, I was just stupefied at all the cat references in conjunction with makeup. Someone needs to conduct research into this bizarre correlation.

I think those loose beauty powders look nice but I’d actually prefer to see those housed in regular Shu packaging.

    • He’s such a douche like Ariel said haha.
I know, I don’t get it. You should do it. I’ll help you! it’s bizarre. Like cat lady used to be a bad thing, but when it comes to makeup? It’s a good thing? Uhhh, no. Not to me!
Yeah, too bad you can’t take the damn cat off of it! At least with the shadows you can take them out of the creepy compact, which is what I’ve done.

  • Maggie

Hold on, brb, dying of laughter.

    *wheezes*

Ok, back. 1) I agree with you on the cat “meh”. I like all animals, in an abstract sense, but as far as pets go, I don’t think I’d ever get a cat. They are the sociopaths of the pet world. 2) I think the design is probably cute if you LIKE cats. Maybe a bit kawaii for my tastes. (But really, who am I to judge. I get sucked in by the pink and glitter of Too Faced on a regular basis, so…you know.)

    • HAHAHA! He’s right though! CHRIST I was dying laughing. I didn’t get why he said it looked like Colonel Sanders UNTIL I LOOKED IT UP. MAN.
And see-I was too scared to say it but: CATS WILL SUCK OUT YOUR SOUL IF GIVEN THE CHANCE. They are the gateway to the underworld, which is why Constantine uses one to go to hell, and why IMOTEP in the mummy freaks when he sees one. ๐Ÿ˜› I totally believe that stuff.
Creep Colonel Sanders cat aside, the blue palette is worth every penny. And best part is I can take the shadows out and throw the cat in the garbage LOL.

  • COLONEL SANDERS!?!?!??! You guys are awesome. Please give Terry my regards for that one! I love cats, but I also love dogs, chinchillas, dolphins, manta rays, koalas, birds, horses, and these really strange little guys called cuttlefish. Suffice it to say, I just love animals in general, so this collection did catch my eye. You make those shadow trios rock! I really wish I could pull off icy blues like you. Cue up the Carly Simon, folks, because…”nobody does it better”! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • I will tell him! Hahaha! I like animals too, just don’t want one in my house LOL.
Although, sometimes I think I want a dog, but then I start thinking about it and SIGH. Too much work!
And thanks hahaha! I love blue!

  • I’m a cat person and yet this packaging didn’t appeal either – your swatches on the other hand DO! As I said to Liz at the bottom of her Shu post, I need to get to a Shu Uemura counter pronto!
