Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights

Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette($15) is a new product from Avon. At least for me! I can’t remember if the True Color shadows have ever come in a bigger size than a quad, but if someone out there does, then let me know. There are three Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palettes available: Not So Neutral, Plum Essentials, and this one called Starry Nights.

Kind of ironic that I took this picture of Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights in FULL SUN actually. But I wanted to make sure you could see the sparkles in some of the shadows! You can’t see that at night! No sir. Not even on a starry night. 😛

It’s not a spectacular palette, but it’s not horrible. It’s kind of mediocre. The shadows actually remind me of Revlon’s drugstore offerings, because I just tested a couple of those last week. No, actually I take that back. These are a bit better. Man, Revlon makes eyeshadows that kind of …well..suck? But that’s another story!

Most of the shadows in Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights are matte based, with various degrees of glitter dispersed throughout. I really like that there are some mattes, but I do wish that there was one or two with a sheen to them or even a metallic, because then the palette would have been loads better. The whole premise of the Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights(and the other two as well) is that this one palette can take you from day to night. Now, if you go for that sort of thing, I guess so. Although, I think this palette is better suited for evening wear if you subscribe to those rules. Me? I got no rules, so the look below is how I’d wear the palette-day or night!

I used the brown shade all over my lid, and then used the grey shade in my crease, with the dark navy shade also in the outer v. I used the matte lilac shade on my bottom lash line, and used a navy eyeliner to line my water line.

Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights makes a decent smoky eye with a navy twist. I love navy smoky eyes, and this palette delivers a pretty easy and wearable version. You do need to use an eye primer though, that’s for sure. And I think if I had used a stickier one like a MAC paint pot, I would have got better pigmentation out of the shadows. It’s a workable palette, if you’re willing to put the effort in. And it’s also good for those who like their shadows on the sheerer side. You know, like some Bobbi Brown shadows. THAT’S what this palette reminds me of! YES. It’s like some Bobbi Brown eyeshadows! Took me long enough, hey?

I can’t say if the other two palettes are better or not, as I don’t have them. I might try to get my hands on them to see if they are, especially that neutral palette. Shades of browns and taupes are usually much better in quality across the board for any brand.

You can order the Avon True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette Starry Nights or the other two right now on www.Avon.ca.

What’s your favourite eye shadow shade for a smoky eye? I think navy looks really chic!

*product sent by PR for review, thoughts are mine as always!

  • I LOVE the looks you put together! The taupe + navy smokey eye is gorgeous! I have to try that.

  • Ebony J

I really prefer a more neutral earth toned smokey eye but that’s just my preference lol but the look you created is beautiful, Honestly I’m not impressed with this palette but great post!

    • Thanks Ebony! I think it’s the combo of shades you and I love that still makes it work!

  • Hey Tracy, heeey taupe and navy blue! I might have tried something like that, but definitely not as intense! I like something more metallic for a smokey eye. I can’t wear a matte all over my lid, like AT ALL!

  • Lily

Mediocre or not, you made it work!

  • You work this palette well!! I guess the meh-ness of the pigments might make it easier to use for more subtle looks.

  • Thanks! Actually, like a lot of their products! Especially skincare. Just click under my avon links in category and you’ll see!

  • Love the looks you created with this! Too bad about the sub-par texture, but you really made it work nicely for you 🙂

  • Liz

The swatches are so pretty but it’s too bad they’re on the sheer side. Blues never look blue enough on my lids so I rarely end up keeping my blue palettes.

    • Yeah, it’s too bad! I really like the colour combos in this one. Really, hey? That’s interesting! You should show us!
