Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Luna)Tic 64

I’m not a huge fan of the whole Marc Jacobs thing. Clothes, purses, shoes, and now makeup-nope. Not something Tracy likes. You know, it’s the whole logo/branding thing. I can’t stand that stuff. The old punk in me starts to get all jumpy whenever I get near that kind of stuff, so I try to avoid if I possibly can. I don’t like being a walking advertisement for some rich A$$whole.  😀  See? PUNK. ALWAYS A PUNK.

But these Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayons are something that have intrigued me ever since the makeup line debuted last year at Sephora. I like pencil eyeliners. A lot. But at $30 a pop, you know, it’s just a RIDICULOUS amount to pay for an eyeliner. Until one day, you’re browsing through Sephora and have OBVIOUSLY lost your freakin’ mind…and swatch one and then think HEYyyyyy baby, you look like really pretty and BAZINGA! It’s jumped into your little evil basket(I think those baskets are the DEVIL’S invention. They just make you buy more stuff. Say NO to the Sephora basket people. NOOOOO.)

That’s my story of how I ended up with Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon  (Luna)Tic 64 and I’m sticking to it. That and the name. How could I resist the name Lunatic for an eyeliner? It’s just freakin’ impossible. The only problem though? Every time I use this eyeliner I can’t help singing:You may be right! I may be crazy! But it just may be a lunatic you’re looking for! Sigh. And I’m not even a Billy Joel fan you guys. Seriously, I’m not. Remember, PUNK. But it’s amazing how song lyrics just stick in your head and remain there 25 years later… dang radio and the whole playing a hit song 50 times every hour in the 80s. I should sue you for damages….  😛

For some reason though, I can’t find a picture of my Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Luna)Tic 64 in my pictures folder? I have no idea why? But here’s a stock photo from Sephora’s website for you in case you need to see what a pencil eyeliner looks like. 😛 I’m horrible, I know. But seriously. It’s a pencil. Eyeliner. Not much else to show you, except it’s silver? And kind of long?

Swatchy time! Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Luna)Tic 64 is a pale, metallic, sparkly lavender. Which is another reason why I got it. I have no such shade in my vast collection of eyeliners.

So, these Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayons are supposed to be like a gel pot eyeliner encased within a crayon, and have extreme-wear, and waterproof.

You know what? I have to agree. Wow, these are SOFT. So be careful when you first use this! Don’t twist up too much, or you’ll break it. Like I did and BAM, there goes like $5 worth of eyeliner on the freakin’ floor. Yup. Not kidding. Be careful.

There’s a built-in sharpener on the end, so you can get a nice pointy tip if you like. But honestly, I don’t think these are made for precision eye lining. Which is ok with me. Soft liners like these are great for under the lash line, or for smudging on the top lash line. And that’s precisely how I use my Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. Plus, sharpening this expensive eyeliner just wastes precious, expensive product! Don’t do it, unless you absolutely have to.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Luna)Tic 64 lasted through a 30 minute run on the treadmill today, and I even dabbed at my sweaty face and it was still there. And then? I went for an hour long walk after dinner with the hubby. It was 26C out. Liner STILL there. Not entirely intact, but there. This liner is no joke people. It’s the real deal. Although, I have to say if I were to intelligently think this kind of expensive purchase through, I’d have chosen a shade with no sparkle. You know why? Because it’s just so TENACIOUS and long lasting, that it’s actually pretty hard to remove it all! Sparkles and liner, they both like to stick around like nobody’s business. Even after a shower and using an oil-makeup removing cleanser I STILL had to use a makeup wipe to take care of some stray sparkles under my eyes. Wow.

Is Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Luna)Tic 64 worth the $$$? If you think it is, then that’s what matters. I personally am really loving this shade! The eye look you see up there, is pretty much all I do these days; I just change the eyeliner up so I don’t get bored. And this eyeliner doesn’t bother my eyes at all since it stays put so well, sparkles and all. So for me that’s a yay!

Are you a Marc Jacobs Beauty Fan? Or just an MJ fan in general? I do like his Spongebob Squarepants tattoo. I love Spongebob. One of my favourite cartoons to be honest. And guess what college the creator Stephen Hillenberg went to? Yeah, that’s right! CalARTS. The same college Marky is going to! Speaking of which-tuition is due. GULP.

  • I am just like you! I cannot stand the logo thing.
But, but this color is so so pretty! Looks amazing on you!!! <3

  • Hey Tracy, I don’t own anything from MJ yet, but I am tempted by the pencils for sure! It sounds a bit similar to the Pixi formula if I am not mistaken? Lunatic is really pretty on you!

  • HEEEEEEY SO PRETTY. I really like that color! I think you’re right and it’s beautiful for smudging along the lashline.

I don’t like the logo thing either. Some douche SA at Nordstrom (they’re not usually douches, but this one totally was) tried to bring out some Tory Burch sandals for me to try on when I wanted some other shoes, and I was like that logo is hideous – nope. Big fat NOPE.

  • Liz

Pretty! I’m not a big MJ fan, mostly because the quality of some clothes and bags can be shoddy, but I’ve caved to the makeup line anyway. 🙂

  • Hellooooo! I’m not a fan of Marc Jacobs, but WOW that is one pretty liner.

  • Gaelle

Erm never been a punk but not big on designer anything. Overpriced tat in my book! Nice colour and the lasting power makes it sound good! I swatched the palettes when I went to Spehora in France and was a bit non plussed.

    • Yeah, I only have the Christmas palette that was LE that was sent to me, and I like that one! But when I swatch them in store I always think-meh.

  • Yay for Billy Joel lyrics and to Marc Jacobs makeup! I really like everything I’ve tried from the liner so far. The Lust for Lacquer in No Regrets and the Siren eye shadow palettes are faves of mine. I also have the “Stone Fox” liner from this range and it’s fab! Lunatic has been on my radar too– looks lovely on you 🙂

  • Sara Hawkins

Very pretty but overpriced I think.

  • This is just my shade! Sometimes it’s worth a splurge for some MJ. Fun fact, MJ and I both have bull terriers. The most misunderstood ugly/pretty dogs in the world.

    • Right? Sometimes we’re worth it!
And COOL. I love bull terriers too! Had a friend that had 3 of them!

  • That’s real pretty, and looks awesome on you! Don’t have access to MJ makeup, but I did fall in love with his flats that was shaped like a little mouse. Never did end up getting a pair though.

  • Oh man, the Billy Joel reference is perfection! I was singing right along! This liner is gorgeous! Sometimes even a punk folds when it comes to the sheer loveliness of an eyeliner.

    • Thanks! 😀 Someday we need to sing along TOGETHER!
Yup. This punk folds a lot as she gets older to be honest haha!

  • Super pretty. But I kind of hate Marc Jacobs and avoid looking at it in Sephora because I KNOW I will cave haha. Punks unite!

  • This is so pretty on your eyes !
    Xoxo

  • I have tried Marc Jacobs’s lip gels and like them. I also like his designs.

  • Toya

Somehow I have completely missed these every time I’m at Sephora, but then again, I rarely look hard at the line because I’m mostly not interested. I’ll have to give it the eye when I’m working there Sunday and check these out – they sound PERFECT for this insane humidity we’re having!

  • Lily

I still haven’t checked out MJ cosmetics yet, and it’s available at Sephora here! Well, I haven’t been going out much, period, and it’s a funny feeling that I don’t feel like I’m missing much. This pregnancy is making me weird!

  • LOL HAHAHAHAHA! I love it!
And I know! I do feel like the name is very appropriate for the price tag!

  • What a great post – you have a new follower!
I was late to the whole MJ Beauty thing – I was a little skeptical, but I happened on the Highliners (I have them Th(ink) and Brown(out)), and I am now a convert. Can’t fight it. So good.

    • Awww, thanks! xo
I have to explore the brand a bit more! The few things have tried have been really nice!
