Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow Review

It feels like I’ve been on a never-ending quest to find a cream eyeshadow that will last on my dastardly oily lids for YEARS. And technically, I guess Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow Rio De Rose Gold($23) isn’t really a cream eyeshadow. It’s a liquid. But it’s a fast and easy eyeshadow look, so for me it might as well be a cream eyeshadow. And besides, I’m tired of looking! So screw the cream eyeshadow quest. I am hereby abandoning it and waving my white flag, because this stuff is AMAZING.

I first saw Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow reviewed by my friend Margo  and I’m so glad I did! It’s a bi-phase, liquid eye shadow that has two layers. Argan-infused gorgeous metallic pigments are suspended in a layer of coconut water. Not only is this budge-proof and crease-proof, but also hydrating for your lids! NEAT. Sometimes I wonder if oily lids are a symptom that the eyelid skin is dehydrated? Hmmmmm.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow is SO, so easy to use. You just shake it, shake it, shake it, and dab the liquid shadow on your lids with the doe-foot applicator. You can use a brush then to blend, but honestly I found my finger worked the best. It blends out really nicely with fingers!

Swatchy Time!

It dries fairly fast too, leaving a high metallic finish that doesn’t flake, crease, or budge. AT ALL.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow lasts ALL DAY LONG on my oilier that oily lids. It’s pretty much perfect for me! And I really adore this Rose Gold shade as it makes my blue eyes even bluer! I would love to get another shade, but honestly I’m getting so much use from this one, so I’m in no hurry. This is the perfect summer eyeshadow in my opinion; shade-wise and formula too!

Now I’m really curious about the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelées! I’ve never been all that interested in getting one, but now? Maybe I need to try one! Have you tried one and like it?

  • Alex_Kay

OMG what a gorgeous colour! It totally makes your eyes pop and I love how you took it under the eye too. Were you able to use the applicator or did you use a brush for that?

    • Thanks! Me too, I love rose gold just for that reason. Yup! I just used the applicator!

  • rachlovespenguins

Just looking at your eyes I would never have guessed that had been a liquid. And I almost bought one of these with my last Sephora order but held out. Now I wish I hadn’t! Though there’s always next time, right? 😛
I can’t decide whether I’d like the light pink, the rose gold, or the purple one. Oh who am I kidding….it’s always the purple one. Yet if someone asked me whether or not I liked purple as a colour, I’d probably reply not so much. For a person who doesn’t profess to like purple, I sure own and wear a lot of it, hahaha.

    • The light pink is really pretty and something I was thinking of getting next actually, but the purple is so pretty! They’re all pretty frankly and I’d love all of ’em if I could haha!

  • Heeeey this is GORGEOUS! I didn’t know what to make of it in the bottle, but once you swatched it I’m SOLD! I’m so glad you finally found a non-powder eyeshadow that works for you, too! <3

    • Thanks Sunny! Me too! It’s been so long and I want something easy like everybody else!

  • HAWT!!! This is so gorgeous and suits your eyes and complexion perfectly! Need to figure out how to get my hands on these!

  • Beautiful. I really like the cheek gelees. They aren’t as good for the lips, even though they say they are for both, but provide a lovely flush on the cheek.

    • Thanks! Ok, I will need to check out a cheek one for sure then! I’m so curious now!

  • Liz

I like these too. Thinking about the green one.

  • That was in liquid form? Wow.:O

  • WOW this is gorgeous!! I love how it makes your blue eyes pop!! I’m a sucker for all things rose gold and I too have oily lids so I think this one is a must for me to try too!

    • Thanks! xo Me too, rose gold all the way haha!
Yes do get one! I think you’ll love it!

  • OK. I WILL LOOK. IT’S SO PRETTY.

  • So intense! I love this color. The finish is exactly like a wet pigment. In lieu of the cream eyeshadow search, maybe go with the similar (albeit messier) loose pigments? I have a hunch you are right about oily lids being dehydrated. I already know the same is true for many people with oily skin (myself previously included).

    • It is you are right!
I do love pigments, and that’s why I love using baked shadows wet-I find they stay put on my lids really well.

  • Sara Hawkins

    Pretty! Will have to try!

  • Ooh, I’m intrigued!

  • There are mini cheek gelees on the Sephora site right now, Tracy! Perfect time to try ’em 😉

I searched these the other day in your recommendation! WOW they really stay! (I’m not really feeling metallics/super-shimmers at the moment, though, so none of the shades came home with me.)

    • Thanks Rae! I got one so thanks for telling me!
I know! They stay put! Maybe metallics in the fall for you?

  • This looks amazing on you! So pretty!
I’ve always (kinda) thought JM is a hyped brand..but maybe I was wrong. ;o

  • EEE! Glad you like it 🙂 It really does make your eyes bluer than blue! SO cool! I used this every day in hawaii and it stayed all day. I think I want to marry it.

  • THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. I Love JM and I love this shade. So I guess I better just skedaddle on and get this shadow for myself. Right?

  • ohhhh this is beyond pretty!

  • Ah, it’s taken all of my will power not to snag the whole range of these! I might eventually 😉 This shade looks absolutely stunning with your blue eyes! xo

  • Gaelle

Want want want! Gorgeous colour on you!

  • Ooh! Quite pretties! And +50 points for using the word dastardly! It gets hardly any play these days and it’s one of the best words ever. <3

  • Toya

Ok, so this looks amazing and I’m SHOCKED that it works so well! I though for SURE that this would be an oily mess and didn’t even bother giving them a second look. Well consider me informed! This is a great shade Tracy, and thank you for dispelling my incorrect beliefs!

  • I hope you do! I think you’ll love it!

  • diana

This color looks nice on you. Do you think rose gold will match my yellow undertone, olive skin tone, I’m not cool but I’m also not super warm either I’d say I’m in the middle ? Did you have a hard time using the product?
    Thanks
    Diana

    • I’m more neutral too actually. I lean both ways-I can wear warms and cools quite easily. I think you could totally pull it off! And nope-super easy to blend!
