Launching at a drugstore near you this month are the new L’Oreal Pop Balm lipsticks ($9.99). There are 4 shades, and I have Wild Lily to show you.

L’Oreal Pop Balm Wild Lily is a neon pink in the tube. Kind of a scary pink, actually. I love pinks, but neon pink is something that’s a little…80s. Even for me hahaha! But make neon pink a sheer, glossy lipstick and it’s not so scary. I promise!

Swatchy time!

See? That’s a totally wearable pink now. It’s more of a Barbie pink which is wearable, for some people at least haha! Like me! It almost matches my hair actually, so I can get away with it. And so can you, especially in the summer. Brights like this are perfect for summer wear.

L’Oreal Pop Balm in Wild Lily swatches a tad warmer than it appears on the lips. On my lips it turns cooler, and you can see the lavender tones in it.

L’Oreal Pop Balms apparently have moisturizing oils in them to make your lips feel good! And that they do L’Oreal, that they do. Just wish the info sheet I got actually told me what those oils are??? What I do know is that these L’Oreal Pop Balms are supposed to have more pigment than the Colour Riche Balms. Now I’ve never tried a Colour Riche Balm to tell you  if that’s true, so we’ll just have to assume that info is correct. L’Oreal Pop Balms have a LOT of slip, yet they do stay put and don’t travel beyond my lip line thank goodness. The older I get, the more frightened of slippery lipsticks I get. It’s a real fear I tell you. One day I’ll be walking around and not notice that my lipstick is on my CHIN. It’ll happen, I just know it.

L’Oreal Pop Balm lipsticks feel like a lip balm and you can build up the colour with a few layers. Make sure lips are exfoliated before hand, otherwise the slippery, balmy texture will emphasize that stuff.

L’Oreal Pop Balm Wild Lily

I like L’Oreal Pop Balm Wild Lily. It’s a great throw-in-your-purse-lipstick-don’t-need-a-mirror-bright-fun-summer-sun-shade. These are great if opaque, bright lipsticks scare you. Kind of like trainer-bright lipsticks if you will. If you’re a fan of Revlon Lip Butters or Maybelline Whisper lipsticks, then you’ll adore these too. Look for Wild Lily and the other three shades Bold Blush, Fiery Red, and Electric Pink at your drugstores. Hmmm, the name Electric Pink implies an ever brighter shade of pink than Wild Lily, hey? I gotta see that one now!

There’s a lot of sheer lipstick formulas out there now! I actually think that these are quite comparable in feeling to Dior Addicts, except those are just a tad better imo. If L’Oreal Pop Balms didn’t emphasize dryness, then I’d call them dupes for Dior Addicts. Close! But not quite!

Who makes your favourite sheer lipstick formula?

*product sent by the lovely PR for review, sheer lipstick formula love is mine! As is my love for Barbie Pink lipstick.

  • Emma Bovary

Oh it definitely looks like it has more pigment than those Color Riche ones, the ones I’ve tried from that range were chunky glittery messes but this reminds me more of the Maybelline Color Whispers (this seems similar to the Petal shade?)

    • Good to know!
I think you are right about that Maybelline Whisper shade! I’ve swatched them, but just never bought as I could never catch them on sale.

  • I definitely want to try a couple of these! You know I love the Colour Riche Balms but have wanted to see more colors with different color intensity.
It is such a cheery pink color on you. 🙂

  • Liz

I haven’t been into L’Oreal lippies in a long time and their sheer balms don’t really grab me either. BUT this shade is pretty on you – goes so well with your complexion and hair!

  • rachlovespenguins

Hahaha Barbie pink is SO not me. I might try another colour if I can catch them one sale, but then again if it can emphasise dryness maybe not. I rather like my Addicts and Rouge Coco Shines. It’s not that I’ve gone “off” drugstore (and I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say about those Almay products in your instagram widget) but knowing my shopping habits, if I can only afford one Chanel or Dior then I only have to find room for that one thing, not the four or five cheaper drugstore products I would somehow wind up dragging home. LOL

    • LOL, not a Barbie girl hey?
Yeah I hear ya! I’m the same way. I’d rather pay for the Diors as well, but if on sale at the drugstore, I’d pick up one of these. I like the drugstore for that quick beauty high.
You bet! I’m writing that Almay review toot sweet.

  • Gosh this is soo soo pretty! I thought these would be sheerer for some reason, but now I can’t wait till I find some!

  • This looks so pretty on you! I’m a big fan of the regular Balms from L’Oreal.

  • Gaelle

Tracy, you look so pretty!I Such a nice pink colour x

  • OOooh, that color was MADE for you, Tracy!!!

  • That’s such a bright pink and looks so pretty on you! Pity about the dryness emphasis. I think my fav coloured balm is the Dior Lip Glow, but they’re def much subtler in colour than this. Is that purple mascara I see on your lashes? Niiiice~~

  • a buildable balm? WHA? That sounds like MY kind of lippie! And this bright pink is so you!

  • 😀 Thanks! I will soon! It’s a new L’oreal Quad believe it or not!

  • This is a balm? But… there’s so much color pay off! Love it! This shade really looks so pretty on you, it makes you look so fresh-faced!

  • I agree- such a pretty, summery pop of colour! My favourite tinted balm in this category is Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart 🙂

  • Toya

I’m still not hugely on the sheer lipstick train, but you’re making an awesome case for them here Tracy – that shade looks so great on you! I’m kind of tired of finding awesome lippies though that don’t hide all manner of sins on your lips – ever brand says they’re moisturizing etc but most of them emphasize flakiness and dryness – what’s up with that? CONCEAL MY CHAPPED LIPS ALREADY.

    • Hahahaha I agree Toya! It’s weird, but the sheerer a lip product is, the worse it make lips look! You’d think it’d be the opposite?
