NARS Olympia Contour Blush Is An Empty Nest Omen

After the NARS Matte Multiple Fiasco(as it’s called in my house), I kind of have been giving NARS the MINI evil eye. Not the FULL ON evil eye(that’s reserved for other brands like–hmmm off the top of my head I’d have to say Benefit to be honest-not much I like in that brand), but the mini evil eye. Baby evil eye you might call it. The mini eye of distrust. I can’t give NARS the full evil version, because I do like their blushes. A LOT. In fact, if you were to ask me what one blush I could live with for the rest of this hypothetical forbidden-to-get-any-more-blush- nightmare, I’d have to say Deep Throat. Every time I wear that blush I think-WHY DON’T I JUST WEAR THIS BLUSH FOREVER? And I could. If I really had too. Hypothetically speaking.

But Marky has no Evil Eye, mini or full, aimed at any brand. Ahh, remember those days? Those un-jaded makeup days? It’s like a hazy dream for me hahaha! One of our favourite SAs works for NARS, so when we see her we always visit. And when she showed Marky the new NARS Contour in Palamino, she was skeptical as was I. She’s paler than pale my daughter. So pale she can’t find a foundation match at the moment in ANY brand pale. But when it was applied to her cheeks and didn’t look dirty or muddy? Marky paid for it right there and then.

And so, I borrowed it. Because I’m a Beauty Blogger. And because I can. Until August 2014 at least. After that, there’s no more makeup sharing with that pale redhead happening at Beauty Reflections. SNIFF. I’M GOING TO MISS THAT YOU GUYS. SO SO MUCH.

Sad swatchy time!

Nice huh? The highlight is matte, so it kind of swatches powdery, but on the cheeks it blends beautifully. The contour shade is warmer than I tend to like, but you know what? It works. Especially as the weather warms up. It’s a nice option to have if you’re pale and can’t find a bronzer that works for you, like Marky. It’s close to matte as well. More of a satin matte maybe, but on the cheeks it reads matte.

Here’s how nice and subtle it looks on my face. I’m just wearing foundation and concealer, plus NARS Olympia Contour Blush. That’s it. Both shades blend beautifully into the skin. It lasts well too-I got a good 8 hours of wear before it started to fade.

I like it! And dang it, I maybe have to buy one for myself now,  because this one will be moving to California in a few months. Along with my baby.  [emoji worried face]

Well done NARS, well done. I’m liking how you keep me guessing. Keeps it fresh between us.

As you are reading this we are in fact on a plane flying to California to visit Marky’s college CalArts! It’s accepted students day on Saturday, and we had those Air Canada vouchers to use up from our last trip, so we thought why not? FREE TRIP to California! And that means DISNEYLAND again, because you know I can’t possibly go all the way to California without visiting my happy place! It’s mandatory in my books!

What’s your favourite contour? To be honest, I still prefer my Illamasqua Hollow Pigment or Heroine Eyeshadow as they’re cooler toned and more believable if I’m really going to contour. NARS Olympia Contour Blush for me is a great, subtle bronzer!

*again, nothing to disclose here because this was bought by Marky. But here’s that monkey for you to look at again. [emoji monkey face] I’m officially calling him FRANCOIS, the NARS monkey from now on.

  • Liz

LOL I love Francois. And that is super natural on you! I honestly can’t tell that you’re wearing makeup. I’ve decided not to bother with contouring, but I do want to bronze up this summer. Do you have NARS Laguna?

    • I do! But I think Casino would be better for you!

      • Liz

Am I crazy or did they used to have a Laguna/Casino duo? I’d love that!

      • HMMM, you know probably? hahaha but yeah that would be awesome if it did exist! But I doubt it. It’s probably paired with ORGASM as always. And THAT sounds so naughty OMG.

  • rachlovespenguins

Why hello, Francois the Nars monkey. How dashing you look sitting there at the end of Tracy’s reviews. I hope you behave yourself while Tracy is off having fun in California. 😛

These contour-blushy things have been intriguing me after seeing a couple reviews, but I’ve not yet actually given them any real sort of look. This one might be too orange for me. Maybe. I don’t know. I can’t really give Nars the evil eye except from the price point argument in your aforementioned matte fiasco. That still irks me. The company gets the wary-eye from me in an, “Excuse me Mr Francois, what’s with all the pornographic blushers??” kind of way though. lol (Maybe the monkey knows? Should we ask him?) Or maybe the fact that their much beloved Orgasm colour makes my cheeks light up like a disco ball. Effect to blatant. Me no likey. I too reserve most of my evil-eye-ness for Benefit. Aside from Gimme Brow and my mini stick of WattsUp, I have been pretty disappointed by every product I’ve swatched or tried. And even then I have the price argument about the brow stuff because that tube is TINY, and they could use more colour options really. I’m lucky that the light one works out.

    • HAHAHA that monkey is naughty-I mean look who he works for, right? 😛
Yeah, both brands are on my no buy side too. You too with Benefit hey? Same with me. Stuff is just MEH and never looks good on me so I give up.

      • rachlovespenguins

Yeah for some reason when I’m in the store I always think “this time will be different!” with Benefit, and then I swatch some stuff and of course everything looks just….no. *shakes head*

  • Hahaha that monkey! I don’t really contour much anymore. For a while I was on Chanel Notorious, but nowadays I do a bit of bronzer and that’s about it! I think that gives me some warmth and dimension!

Aww I can’t even imagine having a baby in the house quite yet (although it is in the cards), let alone having an empty nest! Cherish the last few months of having Marky in the house!

  • Awww, Tracy. We’re here for you 😀

  • 38noodles

Looks like a keeper! I’m pretty into multitasking shades that I can use as a subtle contour, blush or bronzer, and I can’t wait to try this on myself!

  • Guess what…Olympia is even rockin’ on my skin tone! Y.E.S. to Deep Throat being amazing. I keep mine hidden in the back of my drawer to remind myself that other blushes exist. Be sure to send plenty of SPF with Marky to college! 😛

  • Kathryn Greenfield

My daughter and I have the same problem with matching foundation. She refers to herself as “glow in the dark white” and blames me. It is always the mothers fault. We’ll have to look at the contour.

    • Hahaha yeah same thing for sure! Marky’s features disappear in photos because she’s so pale haha! Yes do! It’s wonderful!

  • Eugenia

Francois, the NARS monkey – HAR! I haven’t seen these babies out yet, but now I’m really curious to see them at work on me! Have a great time in Cali and kudos to Marky for accepting the acceptance!

  • Awwww anticipating the empty nest 🙁 she’ll be back to visit though! And honestly staying in contact is so easy nowadays. I had lots of friends during school who talked to their moms on the phone every single day. As for the makeup, I’ve been drooling over these since they released, SO pretty. I can see how this could work with even very pale skin tones – it looks a bit like my beloved Madly blush

    • She will I know! I’ll just miss that red head so much! But it has to be. That’s life!
It is like Madly-I have Madly and love it too, this is more matte though. And not as pink.

  • Have fun this weekend and enjoy Disney!! Also, I think I might pick this up even though I have and love the IT Cosmetics contour set because this is more travel friendly and I am going to be doing a lot of that soon. Great post 🙂

    • I love the IT one too, but it’s hard to travel with you’re right! This is much easier!

  • Eyeshadow Addict

Has Marky tried mixing Illamasqua’s white foundation (or MAC’s) to find a shade that works for her? I’m pale (not quite as pale as her, it sounds like), and I have a bit of trouble finding foundation too.

    • Actually the Illamasqua white matches her hahaha! You know what she does now? The Shiseido foamy bases-there’s purple one and a pearly one-she mixed them and uses that. Then she sets with a bit of MUFE Pressed HD powder, or actually the MAC Pro White Studio Fix-it’s stark white.

  • I’ve been eyeing this contour blush since it was released but it looks kinda dark.. I would like to know how it compares to Illamasqua sculpting duo (has Marky tried it?)
    have fun in California!

  • LOL LOL I giggled out loud at “the mini evil eye”. Yup, there are brands like that for me, too. I am with you on Benefit. Others would be Bobbi Brown, Hourglass and Lush. ;p
Olympia looks so nice and subtle on you. How nice you have found one that works so well for your pale complexion! 🙂

    • SAME! Except Lush. I like a lot of their stuff actually! I think you would too!
You should try the next level up Lena! You’d love this one!

  • aw! (that the blush is moving to california with your daughter (YAY TO YOUR DAUGHTER))
i use nyx taupe to contour but i never really know if i’m using it right so i only do it one somedays. its more a grey brown but if i want something more brown there’s nar’s laguna in my stash.
hope you’re having an awesome time in disneyland and settling markie in.

    • Thanks lady! She’s not moving until August, but MAN she had the thine of her life at Student’s Day haha!

  • looks beautiful!!!

  • Gaelle

Nice and subtle, sad face about the empty nest. I contour with NYx taupe, seems to work!

  • Lily

Love subtle bronzers, don’t care too much about very bronzed face. Then again, me and NARS don’t really have a fantastic relationship. LOL!

  • Toya

Awesome for Marky going to school in California, wow!! Good for her. Sad for you though, I can imagine!! 🙁

I like the idea of powder sets like these, but I’m kinda lazy and probably would rarely use it. This shade really works on you though, Tracy!

  • I, too, wasn’t impressed with the Matte Multiples and was having second thoughts about these new Contour Blushes but since you’re loving it, I’m going to give these a go. Thanks!

  • Ooh, gotta love a bronzer that works on pale skin!

  • That’s a beautiful contour shade. I’ve also yet to find a matte highlighter that looks great. I’ll have to swatch this when I pass by a counter next. Congrads on your daughter going away to college – must be such a huge new chapter in life. But sad for you indeed. I’m still a new mom but I’m already thinking about what to do with my free time when he goes off to elementary school. Second career? I hope so…
