It’s My Birthday Today! So, Let’s Do The 50 Random Facts About Me Tag

It’s my birthday today! And since I’m turning 47(HOLY CRAP), I decided I do the 50 random facts about me tag going around.

1. I’m 47. To be honest, when I was in my early 20s I thought I would be dead by 40 for some reason, so every year after that has been a COOL-GUESS I GOTTA KEEP GOING feeling. So I do.

2. I am a first generation Ukrainian Canadian. I speak and write fluently too. So does my hubby.

3. My ancestor was a sort of famous Kozak(or Cossack) and there’s even a folk song about him.

4. I was only 4 years old in grade 1. My mom wanted me to start school early, but the public school wouldn’t take me. So, off I went to a private school run by nuns. I hated being a year younger than everyone in my grade my whole life. I never got to share the same milestones with them, like getting your drivers license, going to the bars to celebrate being able to drink legally-it sucked.

5. I had my appendix out when I was 7 years old. Scariest thing I’ve ever had happen. And the most painful too. More painful than childbirth I swear.

6. I wore my hair in braids pretty much every day until grade 8.

7. I was a chubby kid. I’ve been fighting to be slimmer my whole life.

8. I have Multiple Sclerosis. But I’m doing pretty well so far.

9. I just found out that I’m Hypothyroid. Explains why I’ve had so much trouble losing weight even though I exercise a lot and don’t eat that poorly. I sure hope the meds straighten me out.

10. Also, I’m still anemic. WHICH SUCKS TOO, because high dose iron pills hurt my stomach, and I’m not a huge beef eater. BEEF EATER HAHA.

11. Most things amuse me as you can see. πŸ™‚ I find the most absurd things HILARIOUS.

12. Which I guess makes me immature for my age? Or do you call that ‘young at heart”? We’ll go with the second one I guess since it SOUNDS more mature, right?

13. I hate skirts. And dresses too. And high heels. Never liked ’em much to be honest.

14.And that always made me feel like such a fail at being a girl, so every once in awhile, I’d try to be a better girl. Never lasted.

15. I also HATE bras. It’s the first thing I take off when I come home. I can take my bra off without taking off my shirt in about 3 seconds flat. It’s a talent I know.

16. Oh and I won’t mention the hate I have for sandals, flip-flops and anything that shows feet.

17. I hate a lot of things when it comes to fashion it seems.

18. I love horror movies, especially when they are all bible/devil/apocalypse related. But nobody I know likes them too, so I have to watch them by myself. Which is kind of not all that fun if ya’ know what I mean.

19. Marky and I have a zombie pact. If either one of us becomes one, we’re supposed to take the other out. No zombies in this family.

20. We also have a vampire pact. If one of us becomes one, we’re to turn the other. We figure we’re made to be one anyways, being pasty pale and anemic. Plus we already have pointy incisors too. And I have a very pronounced widow’s peak. We’re halfway there already.

21. I had the Chicken Pox. And the Red Measles. And the German Measles. And Whooping Cough. I had almost every communicable childhood disease you get vaccinated for because apparently, MINE didn’t work. Needless to say, I was always sick as a kid and in and out of hospitals and doctor’s offices.

22. I was into the punk scene in high school. I’ve even seen the Ramones live.

23. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 20.

24. I’m a Canadian and don’t skate very well. Or ski. It’s kind of embarrassing.

25. I’ve helped raise a teepee once with my older brother during a New Year’s Eve festival in Winnipeg.

26. That older brother Bob was my hero when I was little. He still is.

27. But he’s sick. He’s had a liver transplant which was cool for a few years. But he’s getting sick again. When he dies I’m supposed to take his ashes back to Manitoba and sprinkle them in the forests where we used to go blueberry and mushroom picking with my parents when we were
little.

28. I used to LOVE going fishing with my dad. I was pretty good at it too.

29. I can’t swim, even though I used to go the beach a lot growing up.

30. I want to learn how to surf. But since I can’t swim, hmmmmm…..

31. I’m a night owl. I can easily stay up all night no problem and that’s when I feel the best and most productive. I hate mornings. See-that’s just more proof I’d be a good vampire.

32. I hate summer. And the heat. And the humidity. Gross.

33. I love rain. And cool weather.

34. I don’t like booze in my coffee. BLECHH. I also don’t really care for sweet coffee drinks at Starbucks all that much. I always order drinks like Pumpkin Spice Lattes half-sweet, and they’re STILL too sweet for me most of the time.

35. I can go all day without eating sometimes. And not even notice.

36. If I ever win the lottery, I want to give enough money to cure everyone that has leprosy.

37. I’d love to work at Disneyland. Doing anything. Except bathroom duty. People are pigs in public bathrooms. If you’re gonna use a toilet seat cover THROW IT THE HECK OUT YOU FILTHY ANIMAL. And sit the hell down to pee too you moron. Nobody has died from their ass touching a public toilet seat.

38. I LOVE shoes. And boots. I have quite the collection of oxfords/brogues going on right now and I love them all equally. These are just a few of my faves:

 photo IMG_5407.jpg

39. Β I adore Disney villains. They’re way more interesting than the princesses PFFFT.

40. When I was in high school and took that career test to help you decide what you should do in life, one of the choices I got was comedian.

41. I miss board games. I loved playing all of them, but Risk was my favourite. I always sucked at The Game Of Life, getting plastic surgery after plastic surgery, having 6 kids…that game was VICIOUS.

42. I love Snoopy and The Peanuts. I will buy any T-shirt that has Snoopy on it. If you ever see any, let me know. Seriously.

 photo IMG_5419.jpg

#41. I will watch anything about the end of the world, apocalyptic disasters-anything along that line. I kind of like to think of it as an effort for preparedness on my part, but my family thinks I have a morbid infatuation with the end of the world. Maybe they’re right, but I don’t like surprises. Trust me. Someday, they’ll be THANKING me since I’ll know how to DO STUFF that’ll save their lives.

#42. I drink A LOT of water. Easily 8 Litres, even more if it’s an exercise day. I’d shrivel up if I only drank the recommended 8 glasses. I always have to have a water bottle(or 2) on me at all times otherwise I get nervous.

#43. I could easily be a hermit. I don’t mind being by myself for long periods of time and having nobody to talk to.

#44. I get motion sickness really easily. I always have gravol on me.

#45. I wish I could wear hats. I love them, but my big head makes me look ridiculous in them.

#46. Somedays I wish I lived in the country far away from everything and could ride horses all day. And then somedays I wish I lived in a city where everything was around and there are tons of things to do.

#47. I play the piano, guitar and violin.

#48. I don’t listen to popular radio anymore, so I really don’t know any current songs unless I hear them someplace else like while shopping. From what I can tell, I’m not missing much haha.

#49. I also don’t watch the local news on TV, I get my news online.

#50. I’d love to go back to school and study geology. But the thought of going to school again at my age is SCARY.

If you read all of that, then THANK YOU haha! That was HARD to do, but fun. You should try it if you haven’t done the tag yet! I love reading and learning something about my favourite bloggers!

  • We were meant for each other. That is all, sweet lovely birthday girl. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL hahaha we were! Thank you my lovely friend! xoxoxo

  • Icaria

So many points in common! Doomsday horror movies, Risk (I used to beat everybody, Australia’s the ticket to winning baby!), young at heart is a nice way to put it but I think I’m more immature ha! Now I don’t think I’ve ever known a Canadian that didn’t skate (except my daughter)!

Sending good vibes to your brother and a big hug to you!

    Happy Birthday Gorgeous!!! xoxo

    • TracyBeautyReflections

:D:D Thanks lovely! xo I can skate-just not very WELL is all LOL. I fall down a lot haha. I think it’s my balance problems with MS-that’s what I blame it on HAHA.

  • Happy birthday Tracy!!! You are gorgeous and funny and amazing and I hope you have the best day EVAR. This was awesome to read. I love scary movies as well but no one I know likes them either!! And I am SO jealous that you got to see the Ramones!!! I am going to try and do this tag I think…

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Awwww, thanks lovely! xo Too bad we don’t live in the same city so we could have scary movie night!

  • Hey Tracy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you’re having a great one! I do love skirts and dresses, but I can’t wear heels, either! They just hurt my feet in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY, and I don’t see the point. I do love how some look on others tho! So sorry to hear about your brother πŸ™ I hope he’ll pull through!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Sunny! UGGH heels haha. πŸ™‚
Thanks, but he probably won’t unless he gets another transplant eventually and he just doesn’t want to do that again.

  • Nicci

Happy Birthday! A word of encouragement about being hypothyroid – it’s not so bad! I didn’t magically shed pounds when I started taking synthetic thyroid, but it helped a ton with other symptoms. And at least the pills are tiny and easy to take πŸ™‚ I hope the internet stays up when the zombie apocalypse comes, because I’ll be depending on your advice to make it through!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thank you! Yeah, I know it won’t magically shed pounds for me, but I’m hoping I’ll actually SEE results now with the stuff I already do, ya know? It’s been so frustrating that way. I think if I hadn’t been exercising all this time, I’d have gained even MORE weight, so there’s that. πŸ˜€ My day was hyperthyroid, and was treated with Radioactive Iodine, and then later he was hypothyroid so I’m very familiar with the tiny pills! And that it takes a bit to get the dosage right too. πŸ™‚
And HAHAHA. You bet girl! I hope so too!

  • AnnetteInFrance

“And sit the hell down to pee too you moron. Nobody has died from their ass touching a public toilet seat.” – Hahahaha!!! So right! Loved reading this post – Happy Birthday πŸ™‚

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      :D:D Right? Drives me NUTS.
      Thanks so much! xo

  • TracyBeautyReflections

    :D:D

  • Happy birthday, dear Tracy! <3
I wish you a good health.
It broke my heart a little when you just calmly mentioned about your brother's condition. I pray for strength for him and your family.
You still made me giggle reading through this post! Among other things I agree with you on, #37 is exactly my sentiment! I hate people being shamelessly selfish just because nobody is watching. 😑

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Awww, thank you Lena! xo I appreciate it! Right? UGGGH. It’s scary sometimes. I don’t get the whole WEIRD people get about public bathrooms!

  • Eugenia

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Lil Sis, Happy Birthday to you!!! (yes, I was singing…you better have been able to tell, lol!)

50 Facts….wow! Just the fact that you were able to think of so many things, makes me admire you even more. Then again, I am older than you, so my memory is probably weaker which would explain why I’d have a harder time finding 50 facts about me….hahahaha!

Toilet seats and people’s butts…..seriously – what’s with that? And while I’m anti-zombie (I don’t get why they’re always depicted that way — gives them all a bad rap), if you become a vampire, you better turn me too, ya hear?!

Sending positive thoughts for your brother and eve more love and giant hugs to you! xox

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL I could hahahaha! You sing BOOTIFULLY. Thank you! xo

  • happy bday!!!
i’m really happy to learn more about you and some of these things made me laugh! i’m sending well wishes for your brother (and for you too! having MS can be tough man!)
as for the toilet comment LOL ughhhhhhh

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks! xo
MAN THE TOILET thing BUGS ME SO SO MUCH

  • Happy Birthday, Tracy! It was great getting to know a little more about you and you know, I actually found myself nodding at a couple of the facts you shared. It seems I might share them too! πŸ˜€ Enjoy your day, heck! enjoy your birthday week/month! x

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thank you Paris!! xo I will!

  • Liz

Some day we can learn to surf together. We’ll be the surfing grannies! And can you and Marky turn me into a vamp too if that ever happens. I’d miss the sun horribly but causing mayhem for eternity sounds fun. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TRACY! LOVE YOU!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

YAY! WIll do-the more vamps the merrier I say! We can be the best looking, best makeup wearing vamp group ever! LOVE YOU TOO! xo

  • rachlovespenguins

Oh man… My closet is totally missing out on that Snoopy-as-Killer-Rabbit
t-shirt. Usually I reserve my Snoopy purchases strictly for items where
he’s being the flying ace, but a Python crossover is too good to pass
    up. Very jealous!
I can’t swim either- people give me the strangest looks when I tell them that, like they just cannot comprehend how someone could make it through life that way. I just laugh. But then you’ve probably figured out by now that I too enjoy all things absurd, and laugh at just about everything. hehe
    Happy Birthday!!!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Hahaha Thanks! I almost DIED when I say that t-shirt. I got it on Tee Fury. You should check it out! There’s a new shirt every day and it’s really not expensive at all.
My mother never sent us for lessons for some reason. I think it scared her to be honest. I’d love to learn, but I’m TERRIFIED now.

      • rachlovespenguins

Oh I HAD lessons. Swimming as a skill just didn’t take, and eventually everyone (instructors included) gave up in mutual frustration. I love water though, so I just stay in the shallow parts, and I’m that annoying yet necessary person who makes sure all the flotation devices are present when boating. lol

      • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL HAHAHAHA you sound like my daughter. She had to take lessons in school and did fine until they told her she had to do a handstand under water and she was NOPE. Not gonna happen. So they failed her. She tried one more year and same thing. So she can’t swim either!

  • I was also sick a lot as a child. And my mom is hypothyroid too and its tough for her to lose weight – I feel for you guys. And happy birthday. I want to do this tag, but I fear giving away too much online. I live in constant fears about my online existence. Haha.

  • lyn

Happy birthday, Tracy! I finally got around to reading this post and absolutely love getting to know you better πŸ™‚ Your collection of oxfords is adorable! I don’t listen to radio too but every once in a while if I happen to catch something recent that I like, I use Shazam to recognise the song.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks so much! xo Me too, but I have Marky to tell me who sings the songs. I do use Soundhound too!

  • Lily

Happy birthday Tracy! I’m so glad you did this finally!!!! It’s great reading all these and yes, please turn me into a vampire too, if that happens. I don’t like the sun anyway, and having pale porcelain skin doesn’t sound that bad. HAHAHA!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thank you lovely! xo I will! Deal. It’ll be SO MUCH MORE FUN with you around!

  • Lulubelle

Happy Birthday! I went back to school at 35 and was older than most of my classmates. I had a blast, totally worth it. You would hate where I live, as it’s hot and humid a good portion of the year. I love it πŸ™‚

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I’d love to do that! But I must pay for my daughter first! And yes-you are right-I’d MELT!

  • Kristi C.

Late to the party but did want to wish you a very Happy Birthday! Reading through the list – some of your points I could relate to, some were similar but different & on some points we’re exact opposites! I can’t do zombie/vampire/apocalypse/horror stories in any form! I woke my husband up while reading this due to the outburst of laughter that escaped from me – “sit the hell down to pee too moron. Nobody ever died from their ass touching the toilet seat.” Too funny! When you get to be our age (I’ll turn 46 in a few short months) I have come to believe that birthdays should be celebrated over the course of a week or even a month! Enjoy yours to the fullest dear!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thank you Kristi! xo

Hahaha I love that-glad you woke him up! they fall asleep SO much easier than we do anyways! NOT FAIR!

  • Gaelle

You certainly don’t look 47 and are young at heart in ad good way! I was a year ahead at school too and was the only one not allowed into a club for end of exams party!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks Gaelle! xo
SAME. So not fun growing up, right?

  • I’m sorry about your brother, Tracy πŸ™

I hope you’re having a good birthday weekend! And hell, it should roll over to the next week, too. I don’t like booze in my coffee either! It’s weird! Kinda sickly sweet or something somehow. I also drink a looooot of water.

And you should go back to school if you really want to (and it’s financially feasible – but sometimes you can just sit in on community college classes if you email the profs, etc.). I have some students who are coming back to school after years and years in some other profession (like a lawyer!) and who just want to start again. They’re the best students sometimes, because they really know what they want now and they’re so excited to be back in school.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks my friend! It’s said, but a real reason WHY you shouldn’t do drugs man.
I’d love to go back and get another degree, but you know-marly comes first. Must pay for the redhead first!

  • I love this! Thanks for sharing. I knew we had a lot in common but man we have a LOT in common. Zombies, non-swimmer, skater, skiier…and more! AND we are both Capricorns. Go figure. Happy birthday sweet lady! xo

    • TracyBeautyReflections

:D:D Thanks lovely! See-we’re MADE for each other haha!

  • Jayne

Awww, this was a great tag! One of the funniest and honest that I’ve read by far! I also cannot swim and cannot ski or skate well as a Canadian! My Montreal-born husband makes up for it though, but he still makes fun of me!
Don’t be scared about going back to school! My mom did it when she was 46 and managed to get her degree in English Lit followed by a Master’s! She found that her maturity helped her disseminate information a lot better and her discipline was a lot better that that of a 20 year old! Happy Birthday!!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Jayne! I’d love to go back to school so much, but alas, I must help pay for my daughter first! She’s going to college this year, and YIKES. SO much more expensive than when I went 20 years ago!

      • Jayne

My mom actually went back at the same time I was in school so I’d see her on campus and have lunch. She actually shared a lot of classes with my friends who all referred to her as “Jayne’s Mom” throughout her degree! It is expensive though…I was very grateful my parents helped out too!

      • TracyBeautyReflections

Hahaha that’s so cute I love it!
Yeah that’s the only thing holding me back is the cash!

  • Firstly, Happy Happy Happy birthday you lovely lady, you! I hope you got spoiled rotten and got lots of yummy and gorgeous present! <3 I LOVED reading this post and totally enjoyed your pretty collection of swanky oxfords! And I still love you even though you're not the dress/skirt/heels wearing kinda lady πŸ˜‰ Hugs and lots of birthday love!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

HAHAHA thanks you lovely lady yourself! I hope you had a lovely birthday as well! I only hope to be as half as swanky as you!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks so much! xo OOOH! I love hearing I share a birthday! Tell her Happy Day from me as well!

  • casey23

Happy birthday :)))) If I ever win lottery I will open a big farm and make a private shelter for homeless pets! And also I do LUUUVVVVV snoopy and peanuts. I still have a deck of cards with snoopy on them (they are really old but taken well care by me!) which I brought to daylight last week for a game. And I’ve been looking for an iphone case with snoopy or peanuts characters on for sooo long, and lastly two weeks ago I bought a pyjama and a few panties of Snoopy and finally my boyfriends said that “Ok… so I guess you like Snoopy?!?” AHAHHAHAHA

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks so much! xo

HAHAHA I love it! We’re Snoopy buds! You can get Snoopy iPhone cases on some Japanese site I just saw the other day-but they only have iPhone 5 ones. I wish I could remember the name!

  • ☺☺HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!☺☺ This was a delightfully insightful read! There are so many things on here that had me shaking my head going, “Uh huh! EXACTLY!”. I too can go all day without eating (WHY the pounds aren’t falling off, I DON’T KNOW….), am a night owl, would make a good vampire (night owl, pale, widow’s peak, pointer incisors…), and hate bras. But I do adore flip flops like nobody’s business. But going flip flops/sandals where I live isn’t considered loco since it’s warm more often than not. I hope the medication you’re starting for your thyroid works well for you, I’m sorry about that. I hope you had a wunderbar birthday and I am SO glad you’re young at heart and find zany things hilarious! Much love! ❀

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanky Darling! xo
I’ll come sire you then-you can join me and the pasty redhead hahaha!

  • Happy (belated) birthday!
You went into school at a very young age. I entered kindergarten at 4 and people considered me young. I drink a lot of water as well. I feel incomplete if I don’t have a bottle or glass of water with me when I’m at home or work.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thank you! xo
I did! You were young for kindergarten! Water is the best! I never understand when people say they hate it. How can you hate water?

  • dowantmakeup

Aw this was such a fun read, Tracy! I’m sure you’ve already been comforted by other Canadians, but I can’t skate or ski either (or snowboard!) With skating, I always had a deep fear of falling on my hands and someone else running over my fingers and slicing them off!

Anyway, pirates have to be night owls. Plundering villages for blushes and LE nail polish is best done at night, you know.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL hahahaha arrrrr-yer right Polish Petey! Plundring is best at night!
I don’t know HOW many times I hurt my wrists from falling, so yeah. I just don’t do it anymore LOL!

  • Toya

First – happy belated Tracy! Woo to living past 40! πŸ™‚

Second – Marky much have so much fun with you as her mom. You guys crack me up, with the vamp and zombie pacts lol. And the bra tidbit is hilarious hehe. And agree about people needing to sit down to pee in public places – WTF? And I totally get #43 and #46!! Love reading all of these Tracy!!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks babe! xo
:D:D We do! I’m gonna miss her when she leaves in the fall that’s for sure!

  • You’re young at heart my dear – and young compared to me for that matter! Lol! So sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday on the actual day. I loved reading this post – every bit of it! Key similarities? I’m a lifelong Snoopy and Peanuts fan and I didn’t get my drivers licence until I was 22! Key difference? I prefer hot weather over cold, but not when it climbs to 40 Celsius obviously! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TRACY!!! XOXO

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOVE YA WOMAN!!! We’re both young at heart hahaha. Someday we’ll have to compare Snoopy collections hahaha! Thanks so much lovely! xo

  • Happy very belated birthday!!

There’s an ad on your sidebar for sexy Russian girls. Do Ukrainians count? hahahaha

  • Shu Ting

Happy belated birthday Tracy! I think #33 adds to the fact that you’re vampire prone! Your zombie/vampire pack totally cracked me up! πŸ™‚ So fun to read. Back in uni days, my husband and I used to call each other vampire (him, as he has double decker canine teeth that could stick out when he closes his lips) and zombie (me, for staying up late)… I wonder what happens when vampire meets zombie? V can’t suck the blood out of Z as there’s not much left but can Z gobble up V? hmm…

I love the oxfords/broques too!! It’s really difficult hunting a pair down because it seems the ladies over here don’t fancy manly shoes that much. When I was at my parents’ in Malaysia last week, I found my pair which I thought have been lost for ages!! I just had to take it back here! πŸ™‚ It also brought back memories as I got it in the UK.

I am very sorry to hear about your hero brother, Bob. I hope he gets well under the good care of the doctors and medical staff. He will be so happy to know he has you to cheer him up with funny stories. πŸ™‚

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thank you Ting! xo
HAHAHA that’s the BEST!! LOVE your vampire/zombie thoughts haha. I wonder too about what would happen when they’d meet… πŸ˜›
So glad you got reunited with your oxfords!
Yes thank you. My brother Bob has always been my hero, but I think the end is getting near which is ok. We’ve all come to terms with it and nobody in my family is scared to die truth be told. We’re kind of hoping heaven is where we can all meet and get along haha!

      • Shu Ting

Hello Tracy. In a way, I am really happy that you and your family have made your mind up about Bob. Mental preparations always help to cope with the actual incident. Last year, we lost 2 dear grandparents (on my husband’s side) within 3 months. It was sad but we have been prepared about this for years (just didn’t know when) as they were both quite old. And in a way, we were relieved that they do not have to suffer the old age sicknesses anymore.

Sorry if this story make you depress. I have intended to share with you to let you know that you are not alone. πŸ™‚

      • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks for sharing Ting! It is sad, but being prepared is the way to deal with it’s inevitable I think. We all knew it was going to happen some day. Yes-a Kozak is a warrior! They rode horses and had swords and things. The song is basically about a battle he was in and he died during it. But he died defending his country!

  • Oh no! I can’t believe I missed your birthday! At least I had a good excuse. Thanks for sharing these facts. You’re even more awesome than I thought you were πŸ˜‰

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL thank you xo! You did-I can hardly wait to hear about your trip!
