I picked up the Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette($58 CDN) when I was in California last month at Macy’s. I paid $50 USD, but it’s on sale right now at Nordstroms for $45 USD if you’re still interested in it! Do I think it’s worth getting? Well, that depends on a few things which I’ll get into, but first let’s take a look at this beauty!
The palette is housed in a cardboard container and is quite slim and easy to slip into your purse’s makeup bag, or even to travel with:
The Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette has 9 shadow shades created for the holidays by makeup artist Dick Page. What makes it different from other eye palettes, is that it has 7 colours and 2 transformative shades with polarized pearls that allow you to create customized colors and textures by layering them. You know how I said the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette makes you feel like a true makeup artist because you can keep blending and combining shades? Well, the Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette is kind of the same dealio, just with more colour.
Swatchy Time! Some of the shades have a satin finish, some are almost matte looking(the 2 browns are like that) but still have a sheen to them, while the two magic shades are more metallic.
The shades Champagne and Soda are the 2 transformative shades with polarized pearls, or as I call them the magic colours. Soda is especially gorgeous as it has some pink pearl in it, while Champagne is a gorgeous pale gold all on its own.
Now Swatchy Time with the magic colours! Some shades I used Champagne, some I used Soda. Just click to enlarge, and you can see the pretty shades so much easier:
Champagne mixed with Licorice is kind of amazing! I also mixed Cassis, the red wine shade with some Curaçao and then some of the magic Soda shade to get that plum shade you see. That’s the fun part about the Shiseido Eye Color Bar-mixing the shades together and creating custom colours, just like a makeup artist does. SO MUCH FUN I TELL YOU.
Here’s a few eye looks I created while testing out the palette.
These two looks are just the shades by themselves, as I wanted to show you that even though the eyeshadows seem sheer, you really can build them up in intensity quite easily. They blend out so nicely too.
Greens are not my favourite shades to wear, but combining the shade Menthe with Champagne gives you the lightest most ethereal green you’ve ever seen. This is how I like green eyeshadows-barely there with a hint of colour! So much easier to wear! I don’t feel like a Christmas Elf finally! Not that I could EVER be mistaken for a Christmas Elf with my size 10s haha!
Mixing the shade Licorice with Champagne gives you a golden black shade that’s perfect for a smoky eye. I also mixed Soda with Parfait Amour on my bottom lash line and loved the effect it gave:
So, what do I think of the Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette? I personally LOVE it. I’m so very happy that I picked it up because I’m a huge fan of Dick Page, and lately of Shiseido as well. I’m really appreciating the refined quality their makeup has, especially as I age. I love wearing colour as you know, but with getting older and the crazy pink hair, it’s getting harder to do that without looking like a crazy lady. The Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette allows me to wear colour full on if I wish, or more subdued by mixing the bright shades with the magic colour shades.
If the Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette appeals to your inner makeup artist too, then you can pick it up wherever Shiseido is sold here in Canada which is The Bay, Sears, and I’ve even seen it at Shoppers Drug Mart as well. And like I said, it’s on sale at Nordstroms right now too.
With the addition of the Shiseido Eye Color Bar Eyeshadow Palette, I think I’m finally eyeshadowed to the MAX baby. Unless there’s a colour I’ve never seen before or, if it’s a formula that’s going to change my life, I won’t be buying anymore eyeshadows for a LONG LONG time. I might even call it an eyeshadow ban for next year, but you know I kind of hate saying I’m going to ban something because as soon as I do that, it makes my brain go: OH REALLY. THAT’S WHAT YOU THINK LADY and then I want to buy everything in sight. Right now, I’m just going to say I’m quite happy with what I got and don’t need NUTHIN’, not even another UD Naked palette.
One more week until Christmas!! I went and bought my baking supplies and tomorrow I’ll be baking some cookies! First up are some Nanaimo Bars-you can’t have Christmas in Canada without Nanaimo Bars, right? What are some of your favourite Christmas cookies?
