There are 3 You Makeup Kits to choose from. I was sent Solace, which is the California natural look.

You Celebrity Inspired Makeup Kits-Solace

The  You Makeup Kit Solace comes with 2 eye shadows, a blush, a lipstick, DUO Eyelash adhesive, false lashes, brushes, eyeliner, and primer.
The makeup brushes in the set are great. You get an angled blush brush, an angled eyeshadow brush for crease work, and a flat top eyeshadow brush. I love that they include the brushes in the kit, as I think having good tools to apply your makeup is essential.

That angled eyeshadow crease brush is fantastic! It’s great for placing colour at the outer V in just the perfect angle and blending it into the crease. Love it!

The makeup shades are peachy, golden, and corals-perfect for a natural California look!

Swatchy Time!

The eye primer is really great! It’s just like a MAC Paint Pot(but better actually)and works well to keep your eyeshadows on and crease-free all day. The eyeshadows are a bit powdery, but they end up blending well. The blush is a pretty coral and has a nice shimmer to it. The liquid eyeliner is dark and pigmented, but it’s a brush applicator which isn’t the easiest to work with. Although, the technique that You Makeup shows to apply it makes it quite easy!

Here’s the You Makeup Youtube Tutorial for the Solace Kit. The tutorial also includes a lesson on how to style your hair with beachy waves, so take a peek! The liner technique I was talking about starts at about the 1:10 mark.

And here’s my version of the Solace Kit makeup look.

I love the whole idea of You Makeup Kits, especially if you’re a beginner at makeup. You get everything you need to create the look. The price of $79.99 isn’t bad at all, since you even get makeup brushes as well. It would make a perfect gift for a teen that’s just starting to get into makeup. As far as the Solace Kit goes, I would have rather seen a bronzer and a pencil eyeliner in the kit, rather than false eyelashes and liquid eyeliner. Both of those things are hard for anyone to master, and not something I think of when it comes to a natural California makeup look, ya’ know what I mean? But the owner took inspiration from from the Victoria’s Secret Angels and  how they do their makeup which is why they added the lashes and the liquid liner. Think catalogue or even the Fashion Show makeup looks for this kit. And I do notice that a lot of people wear false lashes on a day-to-day basis, so I guess that’s why they’re in there. I prefer mascaras, as I kind of like my eyelashes haha! (Btw, those are mine in the picture-I didn’t use the falsies at all). But that’s not to say that you HAVE to wear everything in this kit all at once. You can choose to adjust the look to your heart’s content, like skip the liquid liner or the lashes, or add some of your own bronzer. I do think these kits are a great idea, and I hope they come out with more of them!

Do you wear false eyelashes every day?

*product sent by the lovely PR,  the California Dreamin’ look on such a winter’s day is perfect!

Hey Tracy, LOOK AT THAT LINER WORK YOU DID! It’s so amazing! It’s definitely more graphic though. I agree a liquid liner is probably not what you reach for when you want a natural look. Also, can I have your lashes please??? ;)

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL thanks Sunny haha! I love the look of it, but doing this every day would be too much for me! My eyes are so uneven, so it takes FOREVER to make them look equal!

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

Haha, I reach for liquid liner every day, but that’s my personal preference – pencils just don’t stay! But I agree about the falsies – so much headache, I’m in awe of the people who wear them more than once in a lifetime, LOL.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Marky does too, but she prefers the pen ones-so much easier.
I know, me too-I wish I had the patience to use them more often!

  • Eugenia

A whole look at your fingertips is a good idea, Lil Sis, but I definitely agree that the whole beachy/Cali/surfer girl vibe isn’t exactly about false lashes and liquid liner – still, it includes the brushes too, which is great! Love your take on it…AND YOUR LASHES, MBY GOD!!!

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

i agree! this is a pretty great idea since a lot of people just want to buy what they need and be done with it. $80 for a full look isn’t a bad price at all. and the solstice look is very pretty!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I agree too! It’s a great idea and a great price for what you get!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Teri! It’s a great idea for sure! The other kits are just as pretty too!

I never wear false lashes. I am just terrible at putting them on… Plus, I don’t think it’s really healthy for your real lashes either to put glue and what not on them on a daily basis.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I kind of agree with you there, which is why I never do them. That glue scares the jeebus outta me!

  • Lily

Oh, I think these are great. Takes the thinking out of the game, and you don’t have to worry about matching the wrong colours. It’s definitely good for beginners, because for us, Tracy, we have too many choices in our own stash, don’t we? Hahahahahaha!!!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL you have a point LIly!

  • Icaria

Wowza!!! That liner looks gorgeous on you! Imagine doing this every morning? I think I would rather throw myself off a bridge since I’m so bad at applying liquid eyeliner. As you said, great kit for a beginner.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL hahaha me too Helene! But the more you do it, the better you get at it. Marky can do liquid liner in like 2 minutes tops.

      • Icaria

*bows to Marky the eyeliner goddess* :D

      • TracyBeautyReflections

        HAHA you are hilarious.

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

Never heard of them and interesting concept. I like how harmonious that collection looks. :)

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah I agree about that! Everything goes together well!

  • http://willworkformakeup.blogspot.com/ Tiffany

The idea behind this is really interesting! I love the shades in your kit. Loving your eyeliner too!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Tiffany! It’s a great idea for sure!

  • http://makeup4myage.blogspot.com.au/ Vita

What a great concept! I would definitely buy a kit to create a whole look. What a bonus that you get the tools you need too :)

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      It’s pretty neat, hey?
