Let’s talk about a limited-edition luminizing powder inspired by Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2013 runway show today!
Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder is in the shade 302 Close-Up and costs $71.00 CDN.
It’s HUGE for a highlighter, and is just…WOW to look at! When you first see it, you will probably squee with glee as I did! Here’s a pic taken in the late afternoon outside:
If you think that looks good, well here’s what it looks like in the bright sunlight:
Hey? Squee worthy, right? But alas, all that gold you see in the weaving detail is gold glittery overspray. Once you get rid of it with a few swipes of a brush, the Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder looks like this:
Kind of loses that WOW factor a bit, hey?
Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder in Close-Up is a multi-dimensional powder that’s supposed to flatter all skin tones by diffusing light and minimizing imperfections. It gives a subtle glow when you blend the three shades together. Because of the huge size, you can easily dip your brush into more of the white or tan shades to customize the shade of highlight.
Here’s a finger swatch blended in all three shades on my arm in full sun:
Matches my skin pretty well! You really can get a subtle glow from Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder. But even though the gold overspray is gone, you still get some gold sparkle from the powder as you can see. You have to look really hard for it, but it’s there. It shows up in the sun that’s for sure.
Here’s what Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder applied with a brush on my arm:
I didn’t think I was going to like the Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder in Close-up, but you know I actually really do! I think it looks lovely over boring blushes to add a bit more of a glow. Or if you’re just wearing bronzer, it’s perfect to add a bit more of a glow and dimension to the face without having to add blush(I know-there are people who don’t wear blush-can you believe it?). Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder in Close-up adds the most subtle and lovely glow, and I tried to capture it in a photo, but it was really hard to do. I think in this picture you can see the glow on my cheekbones and in the centre of my forehead. Also, it doesn’t emphasize my smiley top of the cheek wrinkles so YAY for that! I’ve even used it all over my face, and it looks really pretty too! It reminds me of the Hourglass Ambient powders to be honest.
As much as I am loving the Marc Jacobs Beauty Lightshow Luminizing Powder, I do have a problem with it and it’s the price. $71.00 CDN is A LOT of money for a highlighter, especially when it only costs $59 USD. I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep on saying it-these HUGE price differences need to STOP. I can understand a $5, maybe $6 difference, but $12? It’s a little hard to swallow. The good news is that the Sephora VIB 20% sale starts this week, so it would be an awesome time to pick this baby up!
