If you are looking for a classic red lipstick, then I think you should take a look at Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in #134 Showstopper($36 CDN). It’s the perfect holiday red lipstick!
I’ve heard people complain about the Marc Jacobs Beauty packaging, but I kind of like it! It’s sleek and simple. The lipstick packaging has a magnetic click closure like other high end makeup brands such as Tom Ford and Burberry. Nothing like that click if ya’ know what I mean! It also has some heft to it. I have this theory that the heavier a lipstick is, the more expensive it is. I think I’ll weigh my lipsticks this week and tell you if it’s true. SCIENCE BABY.
So, from Sephora: A color-saturated, long-wearing, gellified lipstick with a sleek shine finish. I like that word they made up there-gellified-hahaha. But it does make me think that there’s jello in the lipstick. It ALWAYS comes back to food with me…
BUT get this! Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gels have monoi butter—a velvety cream made from the tropical tiare flower that provides intense hydration! I’m a HUGE fan of monoi so that made me super excited! BUT I think they missed the mark on the scent here-why didn’t they scent these like monoi? Or coconut? They have a slight vanilla scent. Missed opportunity there Marc! Or hey, what about PINEAPPLE. I mean, you are such a huge fan of Spongebob(as am I), so why not a nod to the pineapple house under the sea? Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gels also have myrrh extract that works to reduce the signs of aging. Ok, now THAT’s super cool. I can now say I own something that contains myrrh. I feel like a wise man now. Oh, and they apparently have an innovative 3-D plumping agent that adds gentle volume. I don’t feel any tingling going on, so I guess if it’s there it couldn’t hurt!
Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in #134 Showstopper is about as classic of a red as you can get! It’s pretty much the perfect red, and is an amazing colour for the holidays.
My thoughts? Well, I’m kind of torn. Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gels are SLIPPERY. Really slippery, shiny and glossy for a lipstick. Which is fine if you’re 20 years old, but I’m finding that a satin or matte finish is just more flattering in a lipstick on a woman of my *AHEM* age. It’s weird, but I don’t mind the look of a gloss on me, but a super shiny lipstick? Not so much. As it wears, the glossy factor does die down in Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in #134 Showstopper. But it doesn’t fade all that nicely, leaving that ring around the lip look that just ain’t so shmexxy, especially since it does last a long time-over 4 hours for sure. It doesn’t travel beyond the lip line thank goodness, but I do think you need a lip liner to help it look a little sharper and nicer as it wears. Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in #134 Showstopper does feel nice on the lips though! It’s really light and moisturizing too, with just one swipe needed to get great coverage.
I’d like to get a lighter shade of Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gels to test out and see if a lighter shade works better for me, which I think it would. I’m finding it really hard to wear reds lately to tell you the truth. With the grey hair, red lipstick is incredibly ageing and makes me look small lipped and OLD. 👵
You can find Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in #134 Showstopper at Sephora right now!
