Why You Need A Red Eye Shadow For Fall

Red eye shadow. You need it.

I know, I know. You’re scared of it. But trust me. If there’s one colour that will take almost any eye shadow look you’re sporting and instantly turn it into a fall look-it’s RED.

I have quite a few red eyeshadows, but these are my two faves:

That’s my Kat Von D Palette True Romance Starstruck Palette and the red is called Hermit, and Inglot Pearl 450 Eyeshadow, which as you can see has a corner nicked because DANG, getting an Inglot Eye Shadow out of it’s Freedom Palette is one of the hardest things EVER. What the hell kind of magnets do they use on those things????

Swatchy time!

Red Eye shadows: Inglot Pearl 450 Eyeshadow, Kat Von D Hermit Eye Shadow

They are almost the same shade, with Inglot Pearl 450 Eyeshadow being a tad redder-more wine red I’d say, while Kat Von D Hermit is lighter and warmer-more coppery. Β Either one of these red eyeshadows will turn pretty much ANY eyeshadow look(haven’t tried it with blue, but I bet it would work with navy!) into an instant fall look.

Let’s start easy, with a nice simple bronze eye look. Look what happens when you add just a touch of red eyeshadow onto the crease and a tiny bit on the outer lash line:

See how the red just adds that warmth? Β BAZINGA! INSTANT FALL. EASY!

Let’s try another one! How about a brown smokey eye? Everybody loves a brown smokey eye, right? But look at what adding some red eyeshadow to the crease and the lower lash line can do to it:

See? BAZINGA! Instant fall warmth! The red eyeshadow just brings that brown smokey eye to a whole other level of fall goodness!

So right about now you’re saying: Well, duh-sure Tracy, it works with browns. But that’s about all you can add red eyeshadow to without it looking really WEIRD.

You don’t say? Well, Let’s try purple. Everybody loves purple eyeshadow in the fall, right? Let’s see what red looks like with purple. I don’t have a lot of purples actually, but this is MAC Hepcat:

Red eyeshadow takes that purple and makes it look more burgundy! And what’s hotter and more appropriate of a fall colour than burgundy?

Here’s my FAVOURITE one: green eyeshadow baby! Oh yeah! We’re gonna add some red to a green eyeshadow look. Just take a look at the magic:

The red eye shadow added to the crease ends up looking more coppery! COOL, hey? And isn’t that the most perfect fall eye shadow combination ever?

Red eye shadow. You need it. Now.Β  [emoji white smiling face]

  • I’ve actually been CRAVING red for my eyes lately! I have a very deep orange shade that I played around with yesterday, but I needed more red in it! I LOVE these looks, Tracy! Especially the green + red!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Laura! Yes! Red would look amazing on you!

  • Icaria

This looks gooood on your blue eyes! Red doesn’t work on me but dark berry does, probably because my eyes are greener and my skin tone. I’ve been looking for one recently to cut through the khakis & I have my eye on a Clinique single that I think would be perfect. πŸ™‚

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Ooh! I hope you get it!

  • Liz

    You’re a genius! BAZINGA, hahaha. πŸ˜€

I have a red MUFE that I use as blush. Guess I can try experimenting, but my eyes are often red for whatever reason and it might not be the prettiest accent for me. Will still try! Very inspired right now.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      LOL hahaha thanks! πŸ˜€
My eyes have some red veins too, but it still works! Try it!

  • Lily

Awesome post! I’ve been wearing reds too, but i paired it with safe browns. Love how rich that reds are on the eyes. What’s your fave lip colour to pair with red es?

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks Lily!
If I wear just the red, I’ll wear a nude lip as the red is so rich and vibrant. What do you like to wear with red?

  • I love this post! Reminds me that I need to do more layering for interesting colors.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Sara! It’s fun layering colours! Do it! I’d love to see your combos!

  • Hey Tracy, I LOVE the combinations you came up with! I find red eyeshadows icky on my skin tone, but you wear them really well!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Sunny! You just need to find the right red!

  • EVERYBODY DOES NOT LOVE PURPLE. *ahem*

I think we’re moving near a mall with an Inglot counter. *starry eyes*

    • Liz

      LOL!

      I am visitingggggggg

    • TracyBeautyReflections

You STILL haven’t got any Inglot? DUDE.

    • High 5 Larie! Not everyone loves purple hehe… πŸ˜‰

  • i actually really love red eyeshadow. (not that i own any) but just the idea is so enticing and i /love/ how you made it work into other colors which just gives me reason to go and pick one up now…. damn..

actually you can use the magnet on the lid to pop the pans out. it works for a while but i think they end up working less well the more you do it.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

OMG I never though of that HAHAHAHA so thanks! NOW I know how to get them out!

  • RED! I will not go near it LOL! It looks fab on you though. Its so hard to wear red shadow without looking like you were bitted by a rabid rabbit >.<

    • TracyBeautyReflections

But this isn’t full on red Paris-just a bit blended out so it’ doesn’t really look so red, ya get it? It doesn’t do that at all.

  • Very very cool indeed. I don’t think I’ve seen red eyeshadow to be honest…. I mean bronze, pinks, fuschias – yes but red…very intriguing. I love what you did especially with green and red. All your looks are fab.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks! There’s even a red in the drugstore with Covergirl at the moment. It’s become a staple for me!

  • Alright Tracy! You’ve convinced me to give it a try! I’ve got MAC Cranberry so I really have no excuse πŸ™‚

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      YAY! πŸ™‚

  • You are so right! I love my Le Metier de Beaute eyeshadow in Fire Lily for doing the dame thing. And it layers beautifully! I will have to get that Inglot one!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

πŸ™‚ I forgot about the LMdB one! I gave mine to Marky but it would be amazing as well!

  • Ooh, beautiful looks! You’ve definitely given me some inspiration!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Thanks! I’m glad!

  • Eugenia

You’re so right; we ALL need red eyeshadow. I think the problem lies in saying the word “red” – makes us think of eye infections, or major allergy-ridden eyes, but just as I had a torrid love affair with white nail polish since early Spring, I’m now currently embracing reds & burgundies – eye shadow, that is! Love all your looks, Lil Sis — you know you’re a genius, right?

  • Stunning!!! Love x 3 your looks! I’ve recently fallen for MAC Cranberry as a liner and it really pops my peepers and hollars “FALLLLLLL” from the mountaintops!
