Sephora Dual Action Brush Set Review

When I saw the Sephora Dual Action Brush Set, I was REALLY surprised. Not only has Sephora recently improved their makeup, they’ve taken it to the next level with their brushes too which is AWESOME!

The set comes in a handy-dandy metallic zip-around case that’s perfect to store the brushes, and is perfect for travelling too.

The Sephora Dual Action Brushes are dual-fiber synthetic and goat hair bristles, which means they can be used with powder and/or liquid makeup. They’re like a two-fer, two uses for the price of one! I love dual-fiber brushes and if you’ve never tried any you are missing out girl!

The Sephora Dual Action Brush Set comes with 8 brushes:

– Mini Mascara fan brush
– Finishing crease brush
– Finishing concealer brush
– Finishing powder brush
– Finishing contour brush
– Contour brush
– Shadow brush
– Precision sweep brush

This is a great bush set to get if you are a brush junkie and are looking for some dual fibre brushes that are versatile. I thought I’d show you a few of my favourite brushes from the set and how I like to use them! You can of course, use them however you want-that’s part of the fun of getting a brush set like this. It’s fun to think of different ways to use them!

First up, the Mini Mascara Fan Brush has to be the one you noticed there first, right? And your either thinking it’s neat or more likely, weird.

What you do is apply your mascara onto the brush(I just sweep it over whatever mascara wand I’m using) and then apply your mascara starting at the base of your lashes sweeping upwards. Then you just brush on the opposite sides of your lashes to coat both sides. What’s great about the mascara fan brush is how close you can get to the base of your lashes:

And it’s REALLY great at applying mascara onto your bottom lashes, without messing up your concealer which ALWAYS happens to me:

Can you tell which eye I used the Mascara Fan brush on?

 photo BRUSHEYEsIMG_0189.jpg

If you guessed the eye on the right, then you’re right! See how my bottom lashes look thicker? And see how the mascara got right into the base of my upper lashes making it look like I’ve got eyeliner on? And how that instantly makes my lashes on the right look thicker? Cool, hey? It’s a fun brush to use and makes you feel all pro! It also is really great for applying mascara just at the outer corners to give a more cat eye look. MEOW!

The Precision Sweep Brush is really cool too:

This slim, dense-yet-has-some-give-in-it-brush is perfect to contour the sides of your nose with:

And it also fits perfectly under your cheekbones and your jawline as well. If you’re a contour freak like I am, then you’ll LOVE this brush. It blends beautifully too!

The Finishing Contour Brush has become my favourite brush to apply cream cheek products:

With this brush you need so little product as the bristles do all the work, blending cream and liquid products beautifully. It also works great with cream or liquid highlighters too, and works equally well if you use powders instead. This blush fiend LOVES this brush.

The Finishing Powder Brush can be used for a lot of things:

You can use it to apply your concealer and the shape lets you get really close to your lash line without disturbing your makeup. I love using it to apply powder to set my under eye concealer too:

And I also use it to apply a little bit of finishing powder in my t-zone. I have normal/dry skin, so I don’t need a lot of powder, otherwise it just makes my skin look drier. This brush allows me to apply just the tiniest bit of powder without having to worry about that. It also works really well at applying cream eyeshadows, and even your eye primer too.

The Finishing Powder Brush is dense and has some give in it too, and applies powder and liquid foundations equally well! I love using it to apply my Hourglass Ambient Light Powders:

With so many cool brushes that can be used so many different ways, the Sephora Dual Action Brush Set is a great set to have to compliment the brushes you already have. They are high quality, soft, work well and wash well too. The handles aren’t super long, so that’s a plus if you like shorter handled brushes. The eye brushes included are really great too, especially if you love mineral eyeshadows. They work really well when foiling them(using them wet).

My only problem with this set? THE PRICE. See that $68 price tag in the first picture? Well, that’s the US pricing. Here in Canada, this brush set will set you back $82 FREAKIN’ DOLLARS.  REALLY SEHPORA??? A $14 price difference? I can understand $5 more, but $14? Nope. My patience runs out when I see that huge of a price difference. So my recommendation is that if you would love to have this brush set, then wait awhile. It will probably drop in price when Sephora decides to clear the set out to make way for another brush set. If you are lucky enough to be able to snag this for $68 then lucky you!

Do you have any Dual Fibre Brushes in your arsenal?

Watching that mini mascara brush in action is WOW! I love how your lashes look super naturally long and curled after using the brush. SO pretty!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Laura! It’s the neatest brush I’ve tried in a long time!

  • Sara Hawkins

I love that mini mascara brush. I want it. And I am in Boston right now… going to have to to to Sephora before head back across the border!
And yes, it sucks with the price difference. My husband bought sneakers here for $29.99. Back home the same sneaker (style, brand and size) is $49.00. A $20.00 difference. Needless to say, when we travel, make-up, shoes and kids clothes are what I bring back.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah us too! We do the same thing when we travel. Most of my shoes I buy in California at DSW. Some makeup brands don’t rack up prices like that, but some OUCH.

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

Heeeeeeeeeey cool. Although I’m not much of a brush buff. I’m like WHAT CAN I USE THIS FOR and the possibilities are endless and I explode. HAHAHAHa.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Hahahahaha you are the BEST. :)

  • http://prettypandmakeup.blogspot.com/ Margo @ PrettyPandaMakeup

I need that mascara fan brush, and all of these other brushes as well, but I can’t believe the price jump in Canada. I might even wait a while for it to go on sale here, but thanks for showing us!!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah, it’ll go on sale-give it a couple of months. I say September or October. Then it’ll be worth it!

  • Bailey_AlltheWords

I totally want it but, ouch that price is crazy compared to the US price. It aint always easy being Canadian!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Right? It’s ridiculous. I love this set, but the price is ridiculous.

  • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

omgoodness! I need a mascaran fan brush badly! Your lashes look great!

I’m Canadian too…hate the Sephora prices here :(

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      Haha it’s cool, hey?
I know. Makes me so angry, so I try not to think about it too much. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • TracyBeautyReflections

It’s a great set for sure! Really neat and unique!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Emma! :) It’s the coolest brush set I’ve seen in awhile!!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL right? We are loveable-well, most of us are! Some of us are a bit snarky, but $14 is ridiculous. Cripes, I can get something shipped from the UK for less than that and even FREE sometimes. We get tired of being ripped off so much!

  • Lady Mariana

Oh, man, this is going on my wish list! I had no idea how the versatility this set had. Great review!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks! It’s really great hey? ANd if you can get it for that price then lucky you!

      • Lady Mariana

Hehe! I know, I was kind of relieved I would be able to get it for the US price. That markup in Canada is outrageous!

  • http://olgiepolgie.blogspot.com/ Olgie

Ouch! Pricey but they look amazing. I’m always on the hunt for good brushes. I’ve never tried a dual-fibre brush either. I haven’t found a good one that’s not too expensive.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I know, they do seem more expensive than other types don’t they?

  • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

The set looks so great! I’ve never had a mascara brush, but it does make a difference! The price difference though, ouch. Do you guys also have the crazy VAT thing going on?

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Nope, just general price gouging haha!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

That’s just nuts. I got one of those in the US on holiday last month so luckily I got that good price. But trust me-not worth $8.99 that’s for dang sure!

  • Icaria

Those look amazing but that markup, just for being across the border makes me go Grrrr! Isn’t our $ worth a little more atm? Like you said, $5 would have been ok but $14.00? Nuts!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I know. It’s just maddening already!

  • http://beefelle.com/ Entice Diamante

Those brushes look amazing!!! I’m with you on the price though… it’s too much!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      I know!

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I was like WHOA and WHOA every time I scrolled down to a new brush action shot, lol!

Do these come individually? I hate buying sets — and Jesus Christ, stop ripping off us Canadians already, crap.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      I’m not sure? Maybe?
I know-it’s sick. But when this goes on sale it’ll be a STEAL.

  • http://funsizebeauty.blogspot.ca/ steph lau

hmm… a mascara brush… such an interesting concept… I have a fan brush but I don’t think itd be the same because the shape is a bit different!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah this is quite an inverted semi-circle shape so it wouldn’t be the same at all. It’s pretty neat!

  • Toya

HAHAHA LOL @ the price difference comments haha. A while back I was looking through all the Sephora brush sets as I wanted to buy one for my mom, and I did check this out, but honestly yea, the price….just can’t get behind that! These huge jumps in cost turn me off every time!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

;) It’s such a great set, so it’s too bad really. It’ll go on sale for sure!

  • BooBooNinja

Whasssssup with the price disparity?! Crazy town.

    • BooBooNinja

I’ve never said “crazy town” before. That’s how HDDBNEJDHXNDJWN3637;()$@: my brain went.

Hmmm. Typing random letters to express myself isn’t near as as satisfying on a smartphone.

      • TracyBeautyReflections

        LOL hahahahahahahaahahahaha

  • http://MyLuciteDreams.com/ MyLuciteDreams

Great looking brush set, I’m especially eyeing that Precision Sweep brush. Canadian prices are definitely outrageous, not fair :-(

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I know, it sucks hey? But this set is so great!

  • Lily

Oh, I have to check this out. It might be crazy expensive here too, though!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      I wonder if it is?

I just wanted to share that Sephora indeed just placed this brush set under their “Sale” section for $29.00 in the US. That being the reason I stopped by to check out your review.
They’ve placed it under “Sale” twice now, the first time last week it was gone in the blink of an eye. I was extremely upset because I had placed it in my cart and the moment I hit “Check out” it showed in my cart as “out of stock”. Then a week later, today, it showed back up long enough for me to get it (not to mention I continuously hit the refresh button in hopes that another good item would be placed on sale); it is now ” Out of stock” again though.
Great product, and great review! Definitely a good purchase! ☺

    • http://beautyreflectionsblog.com TracyBeautyReflections

Wahoo!! Sale is great! I think waiting for these sets to go on sale is the best. Glad you got one!
