My First Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in RD711 Pink Sands! Review and Swatches!

I don’t have a lot of makeup from Shiseido. I have a lipstick, and I do love their cleansers, plus their makeup remover cotton pads are the only ones I use. But Shiseido’s makeup is kind of easy to ignore. It’s just kind of there, and never seems very exciting, ya’know?

Last Shopper’s Redemption I decided to finally try something, and one of the makeup items I took home was this Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio RD711 Pink Sands which is new for Spring 2013:

Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio RD711 Pink Sands($40 CDN)Β is inspired by the sun setting over the sandy dunes and for some reason it appealed to me more than the warmer palette called Beach Grass, which had more orangey tones in it. You know WHY it did, right? As soon as I swatched that middle shade this palette was MINE.

Isn’t that middle shade the prettiest? It’s like a pinky taupe with silver and I have nothing like it at all. In fact, all of the shades have a duochrome quality to them and you can see how the light picks up nuances in the colours of each one.
And you know what else? These are some HELLA’GOOD shadows! Really soft, buttery smooth, and blend like a dream! They don’t pack a WOWZA pigment punch, but instead are soft and pretty and gentle, which is something that I REALLY like lately. They are buildable in pigment to a point, and if you layer them over a cream eyeshadow, you’d be able to get brighter colour if that’s what you like.

Wouldn’t this colour combo be great for a pretty bridal look?

If you do use this for a bridal look, there’s one thing I’d change and that’s to use a matte eyeshadow in the crease instead so you’re not too shimmery in pictures. Actually that’s my only criticism about this palette : I wish ONE of the shades was a matte. I love and adore the delicate shimmery effect these Shiseido shadows give, but at my age I can’t do the shimmer so much in the crease, and here’s a close-up to show you why:

 photo ShiseidoeyeIMG_4912.jpg

See how the little shimmer particles just GRAVITATE to the fine lines and light them up like an airplane runway? It’s amazing to me. They just go PLUNK and don’t wanna move from those lines-dang shimmery little buggers! Sigh. Such is the life of an ageing beauty junkie! I’ve finally reached that day when shimmery eyeshadows in the crease are not a good idea anymore. It’s either avoid them, or get some botox which I can’t do. Botox is a no-no when you have Multiple Sclerosis. Paralyzing nerves with poison is not a good idea when they can already can get damaged by your own body. I gotta age the old-fashioned way!

Besides the shimmery factor, I have to say I really like thisΒ Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio RD711 Pink Sands Palette though! The eyeshadows are divine, and I really want to check out more of them at some point! They have some really interesting colour combinations and my good friend Larie@ Eye Heart ItΒ has the YE406 Trio which is really an interesting colour combo. Next Shoppers Redemption I’ll probably pick up the Opera Trio because it had a baby blue eyeshadow in there and you KNOW I can’t resist a baby blue!

You can find Shiseido in Canada at The Bay, Sears, Shoppers Drug Mart and probably a few other places too.

Have you ever tried any makeup from Shiseido? How are the blushes?

  • *hugs* I so know what you mean about shimmer. I can do satin but shimmer is my enemy no 1. Still, it’s very fain so you can still pull it off. These look smashing on you. Love it!

  • This is so typical of me, but I am absolutely dying over that middle shade. I love Shoppers’ Redemption days, but I find myself actively spending money on 20x points days so I can rack up enough to make it worth it! I’m weak in the face of strategic marketing.

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Hahahaha! I hear ya hahaha! I go on those days and but things like milk and eggs and stuff like that that I need! That’s the secret!

  • Haha I love your questions. I knew you’re move onto the blushes next!

I haven’t tried much from Shiseido at all, but I really like the middle shade in the trio! So sorry to hear about the problem with shimmer (and that you have MS. I didn’t know that). Is it very visible within a normal viewing distance?

    • TracyBeautyReflections

πŸ™‚ I have to, right? Thanks Sunny!
Probably not from a distance, but I know it there haha!

  • Oh! I keep forgetting!! I wanted to let you know how pretty I think your blog design is!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Awwww, thanks! πŸ™‚ The designer is so great to work with-I HIGHLY recommend her! πŸ™‚

  • Hahaha! Thanks for the shoutout, Tracy! I keep telling myself then next eye shadows I buy will be more of these. I love that they are duochrome and soft and really wearable! And so interesting. I think I want Beach Grass and maybe Opera.

And then I will move on to blush, too. BWAHAHAHAHAHA. #blushfiendpadawanactivated

      • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL hahaha it just needs to import everything else! πŸ™‚ But thanks for telling me again and again and again to do this LOL. See I FINALLY listened!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

HAHAHAHA I had to tell people of your pretty eye looks with that palette! It’s so cool!
All of the shadow combos are so interesting! Opera is my next one for sure. That GREEN in there looks amazing too. I gotta get a blush first I think though!

  • Lily

These colours look so soft and feminine on you! Whenever I think of Shiseido, I think skincare. However, I think Dick Page has done a good job with the colours, and I’m beginning to recognize it, or even remember it more often πŸ™‚
About Botox, personally, I prefer to age gracefully and naturally, without these things. My mother in law got her eyes surgically lifted last year, and it just looks fake somehow, even now. I believe there is more grace and dignity in letting nature take its course. To each her own of course, but in the end, we can’t stop nature, time and aging no matter what procedures are done. Just sayin’.
AND, you should be happy you look so youthful!! *jealous*

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah, I don’t think even if I could, I would. Needles in the face just freaks me out and I’m THAT person who gets every side effect a drug can cause. It’s HORRIBLE.
And thanks! I am quite happy with how I’m ageing anyways. I’m kind of lucky!

  • Agreed – these shades are so beautiful and they really compliment your eye colour. I would want to create this exact kind of look for my wedding.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Christina! I agree and if I was getting married I”d totally wear this trio!

  • Love this, never really thought twice about Shiseido but now I have!! Thanks for making Shiseido smexy!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

      LOL hahaha I love it!
I know-they are just so easy to ignore!

  • Shu Ting

I love your statement: gotta age the old-fashioned way! πŸ™‚ Yep! I totally agree!!

The eyeshadows are really sheer. I suppose it’s easy to use when one is rush for time. As for settling in the lines… well if you haven’t shown us an amplified picture of the lines, I wouldn’t even notice!! πŸ˜€

    • TracyBeautyReflections

πŸ™‚ LIke I told LIly, I don’t think I could even DO any of those other things as they are so scary!
      And haha! You are right!

  • You are gorgeous and I didn’t even notice the “airline runway” lines! That taupe is bangin’!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks hahaha, yeah buy I DO. They’re getting on my nerves when I take pics and see them when editing.

  • I’ve yet to try Shiseido eyeshadows but I’ve tried their foundations. I’d probably be more inclined to try their regular line of cosmetics if their Japanese drugstore releases weren’t so interesting! I do wonder about their blushes too though.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I know! I need to pick one up next redemption for sure. It’s for the good of the blog and all fellow blush fiends, right? πŸ˜›

  • I’ve never tried anything by Shisedio. This palette is gorgeous I like the brown but I tend to stay away from pinks as they make my eyes look red

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah they can do that to some people. I’m lucky they don’t do it so much to me.

  • Those shades are so pretty! I’ve only tried the awesome cotton by Shiseido.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I need to try more now! πŸ™‚

  • Yup! That middle shade is a beauty! Love the look you created πŸ™‚

Subject: Re: New comment posted on My First Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in RD711 Pink Sands! Review and Swatches!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Thanks Taylor! I died of the pretty from that middle shade when I swatched it haha!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

I hear ya! But that middle shade makes the palette so worth it! I just love that colour!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

THAT’S IT. I’m totally getting a blush NOW! Hahaha!
    You’ve convinced me Becca!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Hi Inaya! That’s because I took the sale down for now. I’m going away next week, so I don’t have time to sell things until I get back πŸ™‚

  • Liz

Um, I think you have less lines around your eyes than I do. FOR REAL.

Ever since I bought the Camellia palette, I’ve had a fierce longing for more Shiseido makeup. Will probably grab one of the trios someday. The middle shade in this one is unbelievable!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL thanks Liz but I doubt it haha! I am KICKING myself for ignoring that Camelia blush! It’s so pretty! Major blush fiend fail there.
You won’t be sorry getting one of these that’s for sure!

  • Maggie

Haha! I redeemed my points for a Shiseido palette too! Great minds, amirite?

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Hahaha you said it! πŸ™‚ Do you love it?

  • I’ve looked at this trio several times, but in my 50’s shimmer in the crease is a no-no. If there was a non-surgical fix for eyes, I’d be first in line. For we women with MS Botox isn’t a solution. Plus, needles near the eye, no thank you. I have one lipstick and will get another during the next Shopper’s redeem points day.’

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah, I’m heading that way too Maureen! You have MS too, hey? I’m not scared of needles though since I take on every day anyways. Are you on one of the drugs for MS?

      • It’s needle near the eye that freak me out. I am sorry to read that you have MS and hope that the medication is helping. I’ve had MS for too many years for the meds to be effective, so I don’t use them. On a beauty note, I did buy the Clarins Splendour eyeshadow quad and it is lovely (will review it soon).

      • TracyBeautyReflections

I’m sorry to hear that you have it too! I’m doing ok-actually better since I’ve really slowed down taking my injections. I don’t do them every day anymore and I seem to feel better now. Weird, hey? Sometimes I wonder if the meds are supposed to keep us sick, ya’ know?

  • Toya

I keep looking at these palettes but never give in. They do feel AWESOME so I’m not sure what’s holding me back. I don’t have issue with shimmer yet but I agree there should be one matte shade in their, for diversity!

  • Telle D

since you like these shadows…have you seen this?? The eye color bar palette for f/w 2013?! πŸ˜€

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Yup! I’ve seen it! I’ll be looking for it for sure!
