Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette Review

When I heard that Kat Von D had a new all-matte eyeshadow palette, I was so excited and could hardly wait to see it! You all know how I LOVE me some matte eyeshadows!

The Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette has 8 matte eyeshadows in some really great shades, plus a mini Autograph Eye Liner Pencil too- all at a pretty great price point of $43 CDN.

The eyeshadows in the Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette are made with Rose extract and jojoba oil, vitamin E, and cottonseed oil, so even though they are matte, they have some moisturizing properties to them. Most of them feel smooth to the touch, with just a couple feeling a bit chalky. They do vary in pigmentation, with some being more opaque than others, BUT they all work really well on the eye, are buildable and blend extremely well. I think it’s a really well done matte palette, even though it tends to be on the warmer side.

In this look I’m wearing Renholdër on the lid, with Cleopatra blended into the crease. I lined my bottom lash line with Für Elise, and then used the Immortal Love liner on my waterline. Kat Von D Autograph eye pencils are pretty decent and are waterproof and smudgeproof. They are really soft and creamy though, so be careful when sharpening them!

My favourite shades in the Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette are Für Elise because it’s a really pretty warm eggplant purple shade that’s beautiful as a matte. I also really like Cleopatra of course-even though it’s getting harder for me to wear warm shades like my beloved oranges. I’m still drawn to them though and it makes me a little sad, but pretty soon I’ll have to give up warm oranges like this pretty soon. Oh well!

If you love mattes, then I think the Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette is worth taking a look at! It’s great to have a palette of matte eyeshadow colours to use with some of your other shimmery shadows. At my eye age, a matte eyeshadow in the crease is a must! If I use something with glitter particles, they tend to settle in my fine lines and highlight them like an airplane runway. I’m not even kidding! It’s the weirdest thing to see but it really happens! Maybe I’ll try and get a picture for you sometime to show you.

You can find the Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette at Sephora right now!

What do you think? Does this matte eyeshadow palette appeal to you? Or do you avoid matte eyeshadows?

*Product supplied by PR for review. Thoughts are my own thank you very much.

  • I’ve always been intrigued by Kat von D shadows — I remember I really wanted the Ludwig palette back in the day! Cleopatra’s a gorgeous colour, it reminds me of the shade that JulieG713 uses all the time to warm up her eye shadow looks!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Her eyeshadows are really quite good! I think they are worth it to get a palette if the colour speak to you. 🙂
It’s a great orange and I LOVE that it’s matte!

  • I really love it ! We don’t have kat von d’s products here in France , it is one of those foreign brands i’d love to try someday 😉

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Awwww, that’s too bad they don’t have them there! If you ever want to try something, I’d be happy to supply you!

  • grlnxdor

This palette is beautiful! I wish more companies would produce matte eyeshadows. I think matte just looks more polished no matter what your age is. I’m still waiting for Dior to do a 5-color matte palette. If they do one someday, I hope I’m still alive. lol!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Me too! I think it’s a classy look anybody can wear. And again-ME TOO. DIOR ARE YA’LISTENING? hahaha

  • This is the first Kat Von D palette I’ve been tempted by! I like the mattes. They’re a great complement to a bright or punchy lip!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

I agree! I love mattes. And this is probably cheaper for you too!

  • I love matte eyeshadows, and I am glad the quality is there, but I would expect it from Kat Von D, most of her stuff is great, and I love the names of the shadows (literally, names of products influences my buying them more often than not) and I think I am in love. These are warmer shades than I normally like, but they look great on you! Thanks for the swatches!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

I think a lot of people think her stuff isn’t that great, but pretty much everything I try from her is really great!
Yeah, it is a tad on the warm side, but workable especially in the summer!

  • Dovey

Hi Tracy, this looks like a beautiful and wearable warm palette! I like how it has purple AND orange in the same place 🙂

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

You’re right! You don’t often see that, hey?

  • telle

*what* are you even talking about Tracy, that you will have to give up certain shades soon? your eyes are fan@)$_$tastic!! I LOVE the look you shared! I will definitely have to check out this palette, because i don’t own a lot of mattes and really need to incorporate them more. i have to say that the orangey shade in this palette reminds me of the orangey one in the matte palette by Stila. Thanks for the review, Tracy! 🙂

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

LOL hahaha thanks Telle! Warmer shades are starting to look a little off with the grey from affair now. 🙂 I still love them though!
And you are right0it’s kind of like the orange in the Stila palette for sure!

  • Vanessa

You have such magical eyes — they look great next to so many different colors! I might have to insist that you wear orange eyeshadows (along with other fun shades) forever. 😉

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Awwwww, Vanessa you are the SWEETEST! xoxoxo Thanks so much haha!
      For you I WILL! 🙂

  • LOL and now I’m trying to picture your eyes with actual airplane runways on them and thinking that would be PRETTY FREAKING SWEET. I love Kat Von D eyeshadows, and vaguely remember buzz about her doing an all-matte palette but then I probably got distracted by something shiny. Love it though! And it looks so pretty on you, personally I’m convinced your eyes look good with any shade/finish though.

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

HAHAHAHA see that was me TOO when I wrote that LOL. Seriously though I’m not kidding-I’ll show an example tomorrow and you’ll see what I mean.
Awww, thanks! Eyes are one thing, but combined with the silver hair is another thing! I do notice it especially with the cheeks products now.

  • Ahhh gorgeous matte palette! I haven’t tried anything from Kat Von D yet. Originally the brand didn’t really appeal to me that much. But I’ve heard SO many great things about this brand that I just have to try something now! I think I will go for a shadow palette first as those seem to get the best reviews. Also curious about the liners too! I know you’ve reviewed them and they seem really nice!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

It’s such a great brand and you should try something! I don’t think I’ve been disappointed yet!

  • This palette looks really good, and the matte colours are very well done! Love the eye look you created

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Thanks Lily! It’s a great matte palette!

  • I’m loving matte eyeshadow at the moment and this palette has such wonderful colours! The eyeliner really makes your eyes pop too – I love the drama of this look Tracy 🙂

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Thanks Vita! You’d love this palette then!

  • Oooh I’ve been “eying” this one for a while now. My hesitation is mainly due to Wölf & Cleopatra. You make them look way better than my swatches at Sephora. 🙂

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

🙂 It’s the combinations that makes them work so well!

  • These are very pretty and I especially like the look of Fur Elise. I love mattes but rarely end up wearing them on my lid. I have no idea why!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

It takes some getting used to I think! A lot of people don’t like the flatness of it, but the secret is to layer them to add depth. If I wear mattes on the lid I rarely just wear one shade.

  • I love your eyes, I love the look you created and although I almost never own and use matte eye shadows, these seem to be nice, and for such a price it seems to be a steal. I will check that out, thanks so much for this review Tracy :-**

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

You are welcome! Thanks Sara-YOUR eyes are amazing though! It’s an amazing deal this palette and worth it! I hope you like it!

  • I’m a shimmer eye girl through and through. However, I love the colors in this palette. I can see mysel reaching 4 it alot!

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

It’s nice, right? Mattes are useful!

  • What, you don’t have to give up the oranges. They’ll look good again come fall, no matter your hair colour! 🙂

This palette looks awesome. I was tempted by some KVD but don’t even properly use the palettes I currently have. All out of excuses to buy another one sadly. Glad to see this one isn’t “naked” like everything else out there.

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

LOL hahaha it looks a little strange now. 🙂 But you are right-I’ll probably STILL wear them no matter what!

  • Another one we don’t get here. I love the look of the plum colour on your lower lashline. Looks great with your eye colour.

    • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Thanks Gaelle! It’s a great matte purple shade. My fave in the palette!

  • Shu Ting

oooo Für Elise! Beautiful colour and it’s a beautiful piano piece too. I am now shifting to a dark purple / taupe phase (it explains why I got those goodies from you) :p :p :p

    • TracyBeautyReflections

Ooooh! I bet those colour will look amazing on you Ting! 🙂

  • I am so tempted by this palette! I love mattes and my socks were knocked off by the other KVD palette I bought (Saint). Her shadows are awesome! LOVE the looks you created. Please come do my eye makeup, STAT! 😉

    • TracyBeautyReflections

LOL I keep telling you SOMEDAY I will hahaha! Man that would be SO MUCH FUN.
Her stiff never really disappoints all that much! I think people forget about her stuff at Sephora for some reason, but it’s a great brand.

  • Sarah P

Wow, what a gorgeous palette. I’m really loving mattes after buying Stila’s In the Know and I like the mix of shades here.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

I have that Stila one too and have used it pretty much everyday since i bought it! This one is similar, just warmer and has the purple. I know I’ll use it just as much as the Stila one!

  • This palette reminds me a lot of the all-matte Stila palette! If I didn’t already have the Stila palette, I’d probably pick this one up to add more mattes to my collection.

    • TracyBeautyReflections

It’s kind of like it for sure you are right-it’s just warmer than that one. The Stila one has more greys and a cooler brown too. 🙂

  • Oh waw! Matte eyeshadows are my first love, and this palette really is stunning! Such good pigmentation! I will totally check out Kat Von D at Sephora when I’m in the US.. It’ll be a good wait until we visit NYC next Spring, so hopefully there’ll be some more of those palettes available then 🙂

    • TracyBeautyReflections

This one is so worth it Isabelle! It’s such a great palette. I am loving it!

  • Toya

This is one of the first matte shadow palette (or palette in general) that I really like! It’s got great variation while still being wearable. I’m so checking this out, thanks Tracy!

    • TracyBeautyReflections

It’s really good Toya! I hope you like it in person!
